    Er, yes.
15+ stone men hitting each other for 80 minutes? Who thought it wasn’t?!

Yeah, I ruined a hopeful career as a flanker in my last year at college blowing out 3 discs in my neck. I had about 8 concussions. Thank god I have normal brain function. I’m 36.

As a student of Psychology (which includes neuroscience) and someone who has experience with both concussions and rugby, it's fantastic to see that these discussions are taking place and that people are taking them seriously. 👍

Of course it was negligent there’s papers going all the way back to the 1920’s on CTE, even at youth rugby level concerns have been raised about head injuries for at least 2 decades

Dr William Stewart has got sense. Do something now, don’t wait, don’t do this garbage talk of defending and “would I have done anything differently”... just do something now and take care of these guys. Plain and simple

its not just the obvious big hits. every contact creates the damage that causes Cte.
non contact sports are the way to go

Are players required to sign some kind of waiver now that CTE awareness is a thing?

Geez this discussion is somewhat devolving into forwards vs backs... it’s sad stuff, can anyone put themselves in the other’s shoes?

All sports are dangerous. I love Rugby, but, what l can't understand about rugby players is the fact that most of them never wear Rugby Caps. l think it should be mandatory, and these Caps should be redesigned with extra padding. Unfortunately, nobody in the Rugby profession seems to have the will or common sense.

Yes, I know players wear a scrum cap to protect their ears! The point I was trying to make was, the Cap needs to be redesigned to minimise the risk of head injury, it's not rocket science. Thanks, for your reply.

@@JHurt-yj6ts It is actually quite difficult, nfl players wear helmets and have similar, if not worse of these sorts of injuries.

It's a good point that rugby should at least research steps which could make the players safer, but it's also true that helmets/caps don't prevent the brain from slamming into the skull.

That could definitely help with monitoring to an extent, although I imagine sub-concussive impacts affect people differently. 👍

I wore a scrum cap, it didn’t do a damn thing except more confidence to hit someone harder. That cap probably caused more concussions then stopped. Seriously.
