    Its easy to get that burnt out feeling when you are constantly grinding away. Your content is fantastic! It might not matter, but the wild fly videos you have made were a big inspiration to me picking up a fly rod and learning to fish with it. Fly fishing has been so much fun and A great learning experience for me. I hope you find the proper balance and keep making great videos.

      This channel near single-handedly cultured a love (read: addiction) for fly fishing. Just got back from a trip to Belize that I'd saved up for....simply because the Sailboat Diaries convinced I wanted to catch bonefish. This channel is in the same tier as Tom Rosenbauer for what it's done for fly fishing... especially for younger folks

    6:00 Pay attention to that. Having guided 15 years, owned a lodge for 10, published a major magazine for 5 and now full on media, what you expressed is ALWAYS at the center of things. Take more time to explore your center foundations so you know what it feels like, what it is. Great anxiety comes in this industry when you deviate too far from your centering.

    Thanks for your honesty, Scottie! I think people around our age have all been having those down feelings this past year (especially being broke lol). Life isn't easy. But we have to just keep pushing and moving on, and things will turn out. And fishing definitely helps with that! Your films are awesome, and I can relate to every single one!

    Burnout is tough. I moved to SLC a year ago for medical school, and I’ve had many days I wish I was out in the mountains while I’m buried in work instead of powder. 🎿 Your films are an escape when I can’t go spend a day fishing. I’ll do my best to support your work, and I hope you make a salmon fly hatch film someday with better luck.

    Bruv, EVERY job effects all those things, be VERY happy you are in the position you are, you get to make money fishing and making movies. I know its hard but you need to ask yourself. If I was in a cube in SF would I feel the same or would I miss what I used to do? I live in Montana, I fish, I work, I create, but everyday I wake up and remind myself how blessed I am. You my friend are blessed, you get to make money how many of us wish we could. Tight lines, head up, buck.

    @PaulRowan Год назад +3

    I've been following your amazing work and passion for a while. Insane editing, killer music,, and beautiful cinematography, so well done on documenting this guys! In my hay day, there was no internet, information at your fingertips, RUclips, drones, go pros,. the only thing we had wat intel a intel passed down and books, We operated in the low-tech algorithms fueled by imagination, and tethered to coffee stained US Forestry and BLM maps and a compass. Now is such a golden age, everting is in abundance, flux, much easier and simple to do than before. I see allot of me in your adventures in my younger self in my rambling 20's. We'd cut lose with minimal provisions, jammed old heavy frame packs, blazing up and down trails to find the next unknown creek, only to show off blisters, burses and the memories we carved out at the end of day dog-beat-tried over a warm campfire. . Man if was so fun, I would do it again over and over...
    Now I'm 50, dealing with life's responsibilities and family, I live vicariously through these videos. The irony is no one believes age will catch them, you think you have enough time, but you do not. An old friend / mentor in my teenager years ,"Red" a 80 something former WW2 Bomber pilot one told me while we were fishing for the mighty striper bass schools on Lake Texoma, "Son, life is short, time has no sides, it waits for none, everyone get's theirs in life's share, better go grab it, and live it or someone else will".
    I'm self employed, yes, it's a tough gig, it kicks the shit out of you, it's a daunting and grueling task sometimes. It's a financial roller-coaster of cash-flow in and out, then nothing you never know what the is coming at you. Don't get discouraged, or let those mind monsters canalizable your thoughts, weeds grow ramped in your minds garden overtaking your hopes, dreams and passion. Working for yourself there are challenges, some you accept, some you solve and beat, others let it go. There's a golden lining, absolute rewards for those who are agile and patient. Working for yourself is one of the very hardest things top achieve in life, but there is pure blissful freedom that awaits , something no can give you, but only you. Keep at it, stay the course, and follow your heart and passion in your journeys. You guys are very talented, a bit of a prodigy. Your going to come our just fine!
    What your doing and what going through is a normal part of the discovery process along your journey. Its the test, triles and tribulations of experiencing youth. These experiences build character and apply wisdom in your life. You fall down, you get back up and do it again. You do it becase you can, and now time is on your side, it's your friend. Time will not always be on your side, but now it is. Enjoying embracing the beautiful and magic of youth. This moment in time is meant to be, it's your time in life, it's a priceless diamond and an invincible time to form and develop your vital life experiences. Taking chances, calculated risks with probable outcomes, and learning from it. Go do it, make it happen in life. Choices = consequences, and for every reaction there is a an action. Keep up the great streamside wild fly action. Hope this wisdom inspires and encourages you to keep on keeping the pursuit!

    Take it easy my friend, audiovisual work is complex and demands to be an expert in many areas, and that generates pressure. For me, who has been working on this for many years, a good option is to deliver part of the process to someone else. I know it's difficult, because you want to be able to be part of everything and you don't always agree with how others do things, but it's good for improving your creative process and effectiveness in developing your part of the production process.

    Despite the funk, your experience and sharing thereof put that cheer in my day. Tightlines.

    do you film everything in in base format like 60p or 120p? or do you film most stuff in 30p and then change as needed?

    Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. Someone is pullin your leg, I've fly fished Montana from Libby to Dillion since 1958 and I've never heard of a hatch like you're talking about.

    You're super young dude. No one your age has "made it" yet. Work, making money, life - whatever you want to call it. It is a grind. Jobs fuck'n suck. But you're super talented. Keep going man. Somehow this can be a sustainable and long-term business. Let your fans know what you need. More merch bought?

    The big videos are great, but I don't think they're necessary for your success. The bond and interactions you guys have while fishing, and the fishing itself is what most people enjoy. No disrespect but I'm assuming most of us can't tell the crazy shots you got or editing you did. But as someone who designs and builds for a living I totally get being hung up on that "one thing" even if know one else will notice.. just have fun exploring and fishing with buddies, as someone with no friends that fish, that's what I enjoy.

    Ok..... Hahahahahahaha! Had to get that out of my system.... yes, Montana springs are straight up Schizophrenic, I deal with it every year. Try to get in a little pre-runoff fishing, then you sit and wait for July. Glad you got to meet some legit locals though. Good no ya.
