    When a virtuoso like Karen Gomyo plays a piece with her eyes closed I believe her heart and soul is totally absorbed with the beauty she is creating.

    I heard Ms Gomyo perform the Piazolla 4 seasons in LA a couple of years a go and absolutely loved her performance. It is great to hear her do this marathon of a concerto.

    Hello, I think you got the tempos of movements wrong, some minor error happened :)
    1st is moderato indeed
    2nd isn't adagio, it's allegro / scherzo allegro (usually just scherzo written on the listing)
    3rd i believe doesn't start with adagio but with andante
    so it would go
    I. Moderato
    2. Scherzo allegro
    3. Andante - allegro
    Absolutely brilliant performance, especially the scherzo :D Although I may think so just because it's my generally favorite part of the concerto... probably the most recognisable one too

      You are right, something went absolutely wrong here and we are very sorry about that. We corrected the movements in the video descriptions. We hope you still enjoy the music!

      @@WDRKlassik It doesn't matter in the slightest :D Video could be called "Shoskovich viola concertino 27" and it wouldn't matter at all :D Absolutely brilliant performance once again :D

    Wonderful performance up there with the very best.
    By the way, the tempo marking of the second movement is Allegro (not Adagio).

    Great performance. However as played is Op 99, not Op 77. The key difference between the two is who launches the Finale, soloist (77) or orchestra (99). Oistrakh suggested the change for the latter to give a breather for the soloist coming out from the Cadenza.

    • @WDRKlassik
      @WDRKlassik  2 года назад

      Yes, Shostakovich did make some changes for Oirstrakh before the concerto's world premiere. But for Shostakovich himself it was still his op. 77. The publisher at that time decided to give the work the opus number 99 for political reasons. The orchestra's score used for this recording is published by Sikorski and part of the New Shostakovich Complete Edition.

      @@WDRKlassik How do we differentiate the original score where the soloist launches the finale, as some adhere to today, and the one edited for the orchestra to come in first as is played here?

    • @jianyingguo9761
      @jianyingguo9761 2 года назад +1

      @@WDRKlassik OK, quoting Laurel Fay of her book Shostakovich a Life, The Violin Concerto was initially assigned opus no. 99, corresponding chronologically to its date of first performance. It was subsequently reassigned opus no. 77, reflecting the actual date of composition. Opus 99 was assigned to the film music for The First Echelon. I guess there is no Violin Concerto Op 99 then.

    Não consigo entender muito bem por que muitos musicistas e musicólogos que escrevem sobre eventos musicais não se preocupam com detalhes na titularidade de obras! Nesta apresentação, belíssima por sinal, nenhum violino está sendo consertado, e o que está ocorrendo, é a execução de uma partitura que, certamente está, ou deveria estar titulada como: Concerto Nº 1 para Violino e Orquestra! Me desculpem o mal jeito, mas sou um musicista detalhista, e entendo que tudo deve ser colocado corretamente, sem dúvidas.

    The Japanese description says "カレン・ゴーミョー" or "カレン・ゴミョウ", but please write her Japanese name, "五明カレン".
