Here in 2021, we still don't see any new iteration of this astonishing product. It's crazy to see just how ahead of the time ASUS used to be. I definitely hope that any lapdock makers can take this idea and turn it as a universal product. Smartphones of today are so powerful that it can easily be used as a portable pocket computer.
@@farishanafiah8461 No but the term "lapdock" will never exist again within the Android Ecosystem. Technology has surpassed a form factor like that. Too clunky and bulky, would never realistically transport all those components around with you. Fold does every the Padfone did but better.
@@kylegriffiths5990 Lol, "lapdock" will never exist again? Not really. Lapdock is still exist to this day. Very few people are willing to buy a foldable screen smartphone and rather use a lapdock accessories for their normal smartphone instead. Also, you can use lapdocks to connect multiple gadgets and devices at one time. That is something the Galaxy Z Fold can never achieve.
12:11 The new RUclips for Android also doesn't do dynamic switching with Android-on-desktop implementations (at least Samsung DeX) Also, I'm sure this would have had more success with Android 7.x and its "freeform" mode.
I loved my padfone. When it got broke, I was gutted to find I couldn't replace it. Looked at getting an iPhone and pad to replace, but the bloody price was almost 3 x what I had paid for my padfone bundle. How this didn't take off like a rocket I don't know 🧐
Only question should be -Can u put a newer phone in that dock? What connections does it even use to get touchscreen to work? Micro usb otg and some kind of mhl in the tablet side? Basically every phone nowdays should work on it?
I had one of these. It was cool, would like a device like that if it ever existed again!
Ikr. Today's smartphone has crazy powerful performance that it can easily replace budget and even midrange Windows or Chromebook laptops.
I had one as well. I always experienced issues with it, though. I never seemed to work smoothly. Awesome concept though.
Device was ahead of its time. I wish they made docking tablets for phones.
Me too, it would be a great travel companion without having to bring a separate Windows or macOS laptop.

It's called the Galaxy fold mate.
@Kyle Griffiths Galaxy Fold is not a lapdock.

Because this kind of idea will hurt the Android tablet sales, simple as that.
I like this idea.. I wanted one 2 years ago and i need a new phone now but i need more ram/rom
Really interesting video! Shame this never caught on...
I mean folding phones are technically
@Yosenia diaz Not everyone would want to buy folding phones, so this idea still makes perfect sense.

You should review the latest Asus padfone
... This is the latest padfone lol, they didn't make another one.
I remember when i had the second generation asus pad. Charging port would always break from connecting the tablet. The phone was terrible
A bit late, but whatever -(;
Lol It's in the title it's a *throwback* review.
Technology is not as fun anymore 😔
IFKR! Now they all look the same and more companies are throwing away relevant hardware features like the 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot.
