With mirrorless cameras also able to shoot video, can it work the other way with a camcorder able to shoot stills. In this test i wanted to find out if i only had my camcorder with me could i use it to take good quality images. The images are straight out of the camcorder, just some cropping and horizion leveling of the images. This was filmed/photography on a bright sunny day using my Sony AX53 camcorder.
Hey Jon. Hope you both are well. Rest and admire ... love that spot. Not a bad set of images, colour is good and not over saturated either. See you soon! Stay Safe.
Hi Steve hope you're well and thanks for commenting. Considering it's only a tiny 8MP sensor the images are suprisingly good, as you say not over saturated and i think the colours are fairly accurate. The boat motering acroos the bay was handheld shot at max zoom, maybe a bit soft but from a camcorder i think i was ok. We defo did rest and admire, it takes a bit longer these days to walk to Durston & back, i think it's moved further away from the town. Defo looking forward to catching up again soon. Best wishes to you and the family Stay safe Jon & Karen
Hi Jon, hope you are both well, great video mate and a great little test. I think that it’s subjective to what you think a good photo is , what spec the camera is how bulky the camera is and what you are planning to do with them I guess. Your photos were great, they look good on RUclips lovely compositions you managed to get. I guess I imagine a camcorder being a bulky traditional camcorder and not a DSLR shape or mirror shaped camera.
@@keithguppy Hi Keith hope you're well and thanks for commenting. It's definitely not a replacement for a mirrorless camera or DSLR but it takes a fair photograph, and it's certainly not as easy to take a photo as it is on a camera, I'll definitely be sticking with the M50 or one of my Nikons for stills. To be honest I don't like using my M50 mirrorless camera for video, it's ok for a talking head video but not run and gun videos (now there's an idea for a video comparison) I think the mirrorless and camcorder each have their place in video production. One really annoying thing with the camcorder is that it doesn't have a strap like a camera so you have to carry it around in your hand, I did try to make a strap mount but it didn't really work that well. Best wishes to you and your family Stay safe Jon and Karen
