Funny you mention Missingno, 'cos this whole thing was reminding me of that Linkara storyline from way back where it turned out that the entity trying to destroy everything...was actually a glitch itself. Missingno in humanoid form! (dramatic music) Linkara had these freaky eyes that were just static; it was pretty creepy in a low-budget way.

There were likely too many to fix. Imagine for every one you fixed, 2 - 5 more popped up. That was likely what happened. And remember what computers were like in 1997.
