    *Sally, Stephanie and the Legal Drama*
    The Sally/Stephanie exchange underscores what I've written before (see episode 1866 & 1873) about the show turning a romantic drama into a legal drama. Sally reminding Stephanie, "You are not in charge of this courtroom" and Stephanie essentially agreeing, "I couldn't do anything about this trial even if I wanted to" highlights that the plot is now on auto-pilot and Stephanie's not in control of it anymore. At the same time, Sally's insistence that Stephanie could call the whole thing off if she wanted to indicates that Stephanie has merely taken her foot off the pedal, that she could still take back control of the plot and spare Dylan and Jessica (and the viewer) from this dreary storyline. Sally's seemingly contradictory statements (that Stephanie _doesn't_ control things but _could_ control things) are a form of social critique i.e. that the law is merely an extension of the Forresters' privilege and power and that they are exercising it to deal with what _should_ be a private family matter. Sally wants to take this storyline out of the realm of legal drama and return it to a domestic drama.

    • @annieo6527
      @annieo6527 Год назад +7

      I agree that both things are true - the case _is_ out of Stephanie's hands but only because she _allows_ it to be. She is willing to let the plot run its course because it's a course she agrees with. If she didn't (like when Burke was after Thorne in 1988), she certainly _would_ interfere. But she doesn't want to be the one sentencing Dylan. She is willing to allow the "laws of the universe" to do that.

    Taylor is not making any sense. If Ridge is as happy as Taylor claims he is, he can just choose to stay with Brooke and the kids even after finding out Taylor is alive. She would not be forcing him to give up anything he didn't want to give up.
    This is why her selfless sacrifice doesn't ring entirely true. Is she staying away because she doesn't want to disrupt his happy family, or because she fears that even if she returns, she will _not_ disrupt his happy family? Is she afraid that Ridge will abandon the children, or that he will abandon _her?_

    • @babs4848
      @babs4848 Год назад +3

      I was wondering too. At first she really didn't want to split that family knowing Ridge was so happy. She saw Ridge talking about her during that dinner at the palace, and all the guests noticed he was still deeply in love with Taylor. The sacrifice thing worked back then but not anymore. Now she can't go back and she is forcing herself to live another life knowing that Ridge now is really happy. And as often happens with these writers (and the way they handle their storylines), that storyline too has lost strength and appeal. The right timing was revealing her at the palace.

    The DA mentioning teen pregnancy reminds me of my first day in school when I moved to the US. Seeing pregnant 15-year olds was the biggest culture shock and it still is to this day!

    • @NewYorkNick0607
      @NewYorkNick0607 Год назад +13

      I can imagine! And there's also a cultural difference _within_ the US (the teen pregnancy rate is much higher in the South than in the Northeast for example),

    • @annieo6527
      @annieo6527 Год назад +10

      Yes, this is the part that I find the least relatable about this storyline to be honest - the assumption that a teen having s ex is some sort of an emergency. That it automatically means that they are _likely_ to get pregnant, or contract some disease.
      In Sweden, the average teen has s ex for the first time at age 16 or 17 (it is legal from the age of 15). It is not seen as a problem - rather, it is seen as normal, and there is a lot of information about sexual health issues readily available (when I was in school it was part of the curriculum in the 8th grade when we studied the human body in biology class - I distinctly remember putting con doms on test tubes, and watching an animated educational movie in Norwegian about two well-behaved teens having safe respectful s ex and the whole class giggling about it). Teen pregnancy really isn't an issue that's talked about much here, and despite being a high school teacher for the past 14 years, I have _never_ had or known of a student in my school who gave birth (although once there was a student who became a father just before graduating high school).
      To me, it's just one of those things that don't have to be a problem as long as the teens are well educated. Like driving a car.
      Btw Esi, where did you live before moving to the US?

He didn't even request to see his previous published works or ask which publishing house he works for. This storyline has more holes in it than a fishnet stocking. @@susankent6051 Кто рискуя своей жизнью и свободой вытащил из дворца Омара ? Кто позаботился узнать жива ли Тейлор? Никто...Ридж пальцем не пошевелир и даже когда был рядом с Тейлор не узнал ни голоса,ни касания рук Тейлор и глаз. Тупо прошла любовь у Риджа. Тейлор слепая не оценила на какой риск пошел Джеемс. Не достойная любви Джеемса.

      @@susankent6051 Тейлор не любит, а влюблена была,любовь и влюбленность разные вещи. Ридж тоже был влюблен,но не любил ее,он не узнал голоса ее,не ее прикосновений и не ее глаз,через два месяца влюбленность ушла и он женился и не ждал ....вернулся к своей старой Настоящей любви. Джеемс любит по настоящему. Тейлор не понимает, что значит любить,поэтому всю жизнь обвиняла Брок ,Брок любит Риджа до Смерти и вытаскивала его много раз от смерти своей настойчивостью !!!! Тейлор не любит, как Брок!!!! И во второй раз, когда Тейлор умерла с проблемой сердца,Ридж опять не проверив ,похоронил ее и Омар опять ее спас и выкопал могилу,Ридж не любит Тейлор!!!Он не позаботился даже проверить жива ли она или спасти!!! Тейлор не любит Риджа,это влюбленность и обычная повсеместная жизнь ... Да и Тейлор вышла замуж за Омара и согласилась и приняла позицию пассивную,это не любовь!!!!!!
