What a gorgeous spider! I love pokies but I don't think I'm ready for one yet lol. The plant looks like a Dracaena Godseffiana aka Florida Beauty to me.
Hello, Lavender! Thanks so much! I was thinking Dracaena, but I didn't want to say the wrong one. Annnndddd...I just looked it up...that's it! Thank you so much!!!
My experience with tarantulas and other insects started with volunteering at my local museum. I trained with an entomologist and jumped right into caring for advanced species like P.regalis and P.murinus. As well as caring for countless other species of tarantulas and arthropods. In all this time, I’ve never had any problems with Poecilotheria sp. I’ve received more defensive behaviour from Lasiodora sp. than pokies. In any case, videos like yours are super important because they are NOT sensational clickbait. Your videos are educational and you present safe and practical techniques that I can actually use while working with these amazing animals. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this comment! :) I've had the same experiences with my Poecilotheria species. There is just so much out there that makes them sound like aggressive demons. It drives me nuts. Thank you again for chiming in!
I do not have any tarantulas yet. I’ve been watching lots of videos , this is the first rehousing video I’ve seen that uses this cardboard trick. Thank you so much for this video.
So the p.regalis was my very first T and I had her for 10 years and she was amazing. She went through a phase as a sub adult where she was defensive but other than that she never gave me much trouble. So beautiful. While I personally wouldn’t advise it as a first T I learned a ton and it was amazing. Had her for 10 years
Hey, Roy! I think that some people can just jump right in with the "advanced" species and do fine. For others, it would be too much. Thanks for chiming in...she sounds like she was a beauty!
Thank you Tom for all you do. I understand you are just a weird guy who plays with spiders but, your calm rehousing just helped me rehouse three of my now adult pokies. Your work has helped me enjoy this hobby more and to find the confidence to tackle any old world species. Love your videos for instruction and look forward to your podcast every week!! Your podcast has been there for me in the rush of Christmas while delivering mail during a pandemic where we were backed up and working long days trying our best with fewer workers and triple the work. Thank you for helping our hobby through 2020 and congrats on the new house.
Hey, Cassondra! Awwwww...thank you so much! It's comment like this that make all the TBS stuff SO worth it for me. :) I'm so glad that your rehousings went well! Ughhhhh...I can't even imagine how hard you must have been working during the holiday season. :( I'm so glad that I was able to make it a bit more tolerable. Again...thanks!
P. regalis is defintely underrated Poeciltheria. Everybody wants the metallica, my favorites are the regalis, miranda then metallica. A beautyful animal!
Gorgeous Tarantula Tom. This rehousing went perfect. Thank you for all the tips in this one. And thank you for producing and uploading this video on a Sunday.
I appreciate u explaining for the haters, but no need. I've waited for this video for a long. I see SO MANY ppl online say "I got my sling a big enclosure so now I don't need to rehouse 😁". No. Can u do that? Sure. U don't have to. Plan ahead and do exactly what u did in this video. There are more ways than ppl know to be safe. Would I do this? No. Way to much work for me. Should ppl do this? 100%! Love ur vids Tom. I say it all the time. U really stick up for the little guy. Ur knowledge is needed in this community man. I'm sure u don't understand just how important these videos are. I learn so much from u. I can imagine myself 3 yrs ago seeing this video like "OMG this guy is a genius" 🤣. Thx for everything you've done. You've made my passion grow throughout the yrs. I mean it 🙏💯🕷️♥️
Sry man. Got excited 🤣. Also wanted to say I like the intro. This new way of recording (or editing) is great. Ur about the only person I didn't want to see "new from". Just wanted Tom. That's not reality. Watching u grow as a content creator has been great. Honestly, can't wait to see 2021 Tom. We just hit 2020 🤦🏻♂️🤣
Damien! Yup, that was EXACTLY what I was going for. Normally, I wouldn't do this, but I've been doing a lot of stuff with Old World species lately, and I'm trying to take away some of the stigma. I'm tired of folks talking about them like they are just a bite waiting to happen. That's not true. There are plenty of precautions a keeper can take to mitigate the risks. I'm hoping that some folks will see this and think, "You know what? I can do that!." Thanks for "getting it", Damien!
And thanks on that as well! I will never deviate from what I do, but I DO want to evolve and start polishing the presentation a bit. It's all the same info, just in a slightly more polished format. haha Thanks again, bud!
@@TomsBigSpiders Tom Moran that's all I ask from u 🤣. I see these new ppl scared to death of some of these T's. All T's have there ways and we as keepers have ways around there ways 😁. I would like to recommend something though. Not sure if u have ur reasons or not. I really wish you'd promote the podcast more. Man that s**** good. As much as I learn from this channel, the podcast is different. It's like comparing snorkeling to diving. Both are amazing but the podcast is really diving down and seeing things u don't get in the videos. I'll never turn my back on this channel. It's really what got me in the hobby and not just keeping a couple T's. I just think ppl are really missing u without the podcast. I get some don't like podcast. If u haven't heard a tarantula podcast then don't say u don't like podcast 🤣. I think most ppl know u have a podcast but ppl searching for "P. regalis care" I'm sure have no idea. Maybe if u just tossed it in at the end when u did ur outro, idk 🤷🏻♂️
She’s so beautiful Tom! I just rehoused my small juvi today, along with a few other T’s and it all went smooth. Awesome video as always. I look forward to the next.
I don’t mind the Mainstay containers. I poke ventilation big enough to get my prodding stick through, reaching the spider with no problem. Great video, Tom.
I watched this one a while ago but had to watch it again since I am now the proud owner of my favorite Pokie species (regalis)! My first old world!!!!! I bought the T and the enclosure together which was 120 USD. It is about 3.5 to 4 inches DLS and it is in a Exotera Nano Tall. Cork bark and substrate was included! It already has the web curtains and is well established in it's enclosure. It does have the mesh top so I will have to find one of your other videos for the 3D printed tops. If you have a link to the video it might help but I am sure I will find it. Dang! even 2 years ago Billie was killing it with the vids! Thank you sir for the podcasts and your videos! I have 7 other people and a few forums that I watch and read and all have the same care. Yes. You can put this on your podcast lol. I need to clean the poo off the glass tomorrow, but today I am enjoying the moment! I hope it is a female! Next molt will tell! Either way I am still very excited! My last T will be the OBT. I have limits and 10 is that limit. If I can afford a larger apartment or house in the future I might increase my limit. For now I am happy with my 10 limit. I have 40 more I want but space is a thing and I know my limits. Best of wishes and hoping you can avoid as much illness in the future as you can!
That's awesome, Dusty...congrats! I LOVE this species. This big girl here is just stunning. And the space thing is always a constant battle. haha And that's great that you got her in an enclosure. Here is a link to the lids: cmterrariums.com/ Thanks again, bud!
Great Job Tom Great Camera work as well Billy just so enjoyed the video especially when they catch me by surprise not sure how this one got past me lol solid re-house truly ❤
@@TomsBigSpiders never a worry Tom I know How busy you are its always amazing just catching a video I haven't watched many times over lol brother all love and respect truly stay safe the sp electric blue made a full and complete recovery by the way thanks again for your help and concern .
Beautiful tarantula! I was holding my breath while you were transferring. I think my BP went up. LOL. Billy does such a great job capturing with the video. It's always so clear and definitive. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, Judy! This is one of my favorites! hahaha Sorry for the stress! And she's reading the comment right behind me, and she says, "thank you!". :) She really does a great job! :)
Big beautiful spider. My sling/juvie has always remained out in the open and i have to do quite a bit to get it to retreat even when im moving its enclosure around. Maybe that will change one day. Maybe it will change today sonce it just molted again. This will be its first molt after having regenerated its new leg. Its still curled up and cleaning itself so maybe ill get to see it in all its glory by tmrw. I always rewatch your care and rehouseing videos when i get spider news from within my little gang.
It makes my day when I get a new video notification from your channel. I appreciate they way you approached the situation calmly even though it didn't go exactly as planned. And the new "green screen" effect is super cool. Hope you're having a great day!
Hello, Morgan! Thank you so much! Yeah, I think the key to these is to always remain calm. Luckily, she finally got where she needed to go. And thank you! I love that I can have stuff in the background now! :)
When I first was interested in tarantulas, I learned about the NW vs OW species. I decided on my Avic avic which I bought April 2019 and really had no interest in OW, but after watching your videos and listening to your podcasts (yes, I do both haha), I am reconsidering. I don't see myself owning a ton of spiders but there are a few on my lists. Thanks for having such educational, non click baity videos. Also I had previously asked you about my T being too cold in my 100 year old farm house due to an old diesel fueled furnace. I took your advice and I jerry rigged a heating mat for some indirect heat for my poor little guy which has brought his temps closer to 70°, hoping he will want to eat now. Thanks for your help.
Thank you so much for this comment, Jamie. That is just fantastic. I totally understand if people don't ever feel ready for them, and I'm NEVER trying to rush people, but I DO want to make it clear that they are not as bad as they are made out to be. If you're prepared, they can be perfectly fine to work with. How's the mat working out? Has she started moving around more? Thank you!
@@TomsBigSpiders he has! Now I don't know what he is doing. I never see on the bottom but he has been down there twice in the last few days just walking all around. I tried feeding him again but he still wasn't interested though . A member of a popular tarantula group told me that Avics are just weirdos sometimes haha. I think I may try smaller crickets. I buy large because I also have a Bearded Dragon so it's easier.
I don't think I really ever thought about it but now that you mention it my pokies do seem to relieve themselves on the "sunnyside" of the enclosure. I wonder if it's either because they want to block light or to do their business away from their home. As this will help keep their house cleaner and to keep potential predators from their location. Another great rehouse Tom, thanks for sharing great ideas. It is so true that a lot of re-housings are probably done on the fly and that's when accidents happen.
Great video tom thanks for all the information just got one for my birthday about 2cm so a long way to go keep up the good work ill be checking out your other videos on the 4 other T's i received.
Terrific video! I remember from another video, you said that you like to raise the Ts from slings. I am trying it and you were so right! Love the baby experience!!
Hello, Toni! That's awesome! Yes, I find it so much fun to grow them up myself. The ones that I bought as sub adults I plan to buy slings of so that I can grow those species up, too. :) Thanks!
My P regalis sling is almost always out where it can be seen. I've been pleasantly surprised by how relaxed it is. I hope it keeps that personality as it grows.
Another great video Tom. I love my P Regalis but it was my nemesis when i first got it. Best laid plans....however ! I was what I thought well prepared for the rehouse but it found the smallest of gaps, shot out, ran up my arm then off and disappeared. I found it three days later sat on the T room ceiling and I swear I heard it laughing at me. I named it Hairy Houdini in honour of it's escapoligy tactics. I still love it though.
Thank you so much, Nigel! Oh no! That does NOT sound like fun. haha I can only imagine how on edge everyone must have been for those three days. haha So glad that you were able to recapture Hairy! haha
So weird how I order 3 P.regalis slings and get this video pop up straight after lool, brilliant video and lots of info imma defiantly come back to this one every rehouse
I'm not sure I'm not the only one, but appreciate all rehousing videos. Have an aboreal (c. Versicolor) and it gave a run for my money the very first rehousing😂. Thanks Tom, Ben
Yeah, I asked folks a while back if they would like me to ease off on them, and the overwhelming response was NO. haha It seems people that are into the hobby (not the ones who are just watching for entertainment) seem to appreciate examples of smooth rehousings. I'm more than happy to oblige! Thanks, Ben!
Hey Tom, how's life buddy? Hope you and your lovely lady are keeping safe and well. As promised I will always return to your videos when I need info so here I am. I have decided to take the leap into the world of pokies as I'm generally a new world keeper . I have 4 regalis slings arriving soon and I'm nervously looking forward to it lol. Will let you know how the housings go. Take care and keep safe brother.
How's it going, bud! I can't complain. Summer break is right around the corner for me. Well, thank you so much! Please, let me know how it goes! I'm sure that you'll do just fine. :)
Just picked up my first old world this past weekend… 5.5”+ female P regalis … go big or go home right lol… getting from cup from expo to enclosure was fairly straightforward but not going to lie I was on edge lol 16:16 ye I’m definitely not in a hurry to get once of these rehoused ….local pet shop has a MM they want to give me 😂
Man, you jumped right in! Congrats- the P. regalis is one of my favorite species. My female is pushing 8" and is just stunning. I'm glad to hear that the housing went well! haha
@@TomsBigSpiders ye I figured if I’m going to have a display only tarantula I want it to be something big and fantastic.:. I didn’t want to raise a sling I have several I’m raising now …it comes with a level of respect for them she has been pretty chill and already eating so far so good … if I wanted to I can get a MM from a local pet store and breed but I’m not interested in goin down that road lol 😂
Oh man, I haven't even gotten into the video and I am excited. I lost my LP sling to a dumb newbie error. I am still not brave enough for a Poeci, but I can live that dream through you lol.
I have an adult female thats a monster. Ive had her about a year and a half, only saw saw her out maybe 2 or 3 times. Recently moved appartments and ive seen her out more times in the past week then i have my entire time owning her!
Such a stunning tarantula :) when I make my way to pokies, this species will be my first! I’ve got a nice exoterra that I got second hand, going to make it into a bioactive enclosure for my first pokie! Fab video again :D
I brought my first Ragalis do have other different Tarantula s but this one is my fav being iv not seen her since housed she has hidden herself the bark
Just grabbed the pokie “kit” off TSS - I’ve already extensively researched all of the species I’d like to own, but I’ve found a lot of the information around pokies especially makes them sound like total devil children lol. But I can see from your video that with the proper preparation and mindset, with a bit of gentleness and calmness, they’re really not that bad. ☺️ I really like your attitude towards T keeping and along with Dave’s channel have found a lot of valuable information for my continued adventure into keeping these wonderful animals. Thank you!
I know exactly what you're talking about, and that drives me nuts. I've kept 13 species of them so far, and they have all been much more shy than anything. I think that they get the bad reps from the POTENTIAL they have to deliver a nasty bite. They deserve respect, but not fear. I'm glad that you have seen through all that and you're giving them a shot!
When I rehouse I assume beforehand I am going to have problems and try to prepare accordingly. I have several catch cups available, several paint brushes and straws. I have various pieces of poster board cut of varying sizes. I rehouse in a plastic tub that I moisten the interior walls and have a "belt" of petroleum jelly around the top of the interior walls. I also use one of your tricks of putting wads of paper in the corners for hides. I take my time and try not to stress the spider any more than absolutely necessary. Knock on wood I've never had a escape or threat posture while rehousing. The key I think is being prepared beforehand like you mentioned. How much easier would it be if we could train them with voice commands like we do our dogs? Lol!!
That's the way we approach it; plan for the worst and hope for the best! haha I think the trick is to be as prepared as possible and to be ready to adjust (and to stay calm) if things don't go the way you planned. I do the knock on wood thing all of the time. haha Wouldn't that be great, Ron? hahaha Thanks, bud!
@@TomsBigSpiders that's what I do, if things start going south I stop and try again later. And your correct I think, remaining calm is extremely important. Stress harbors mistakes I think.
Hi, I saw you like your Poecilotheria adults in 19-38 litre tubs. I have to confess I have my large 5.5 inch Regalis in a 70 litre tub. It's packed with furniture,a large cork tube a couple of pathos, other plastic plants and a large solid wooden branch, which she climbs around on at night time.Subtrate is 2/3 inches deep,so it's quite packed out, with plenty of hiding places and gives The Regalis good security- I think lol... Would you say based on this thar 70l tub is tooo big ?? Thanks Tom... James
Hi, James! There is nothing wrong with giving them larger enclosures as long as they have a secure hide and some folliage. That will embolden them to do a bit of exploring when the lights go off. I have a few of my pokies in 12 x 12 x 18h tanks now, and they tend to just hide in their burrows. That said, the space isn't wasted. Hope that helps!
Hey Tom, Thanks for the reply 👍 Yes I've seen my Regalis out several time during the night when the lights are out and exploring her enclosure.During the day,she just hides and I see her tucked up in her cork tube safe and sound, but comes out at night and does her thing.Ive used the 12x12x18 exo terra in the past and they are fantastic enclosures ! I just feel more satisfied using a bigger enclosure, for the the Tarantulas benefit, but with this I've had to use plenty of furniture so she can hide and feel secure ..... In India, they have the whole country as their enclosure, but tend to pick a tree to live in.So I'm thinking it's the same in an enclosure, you can you large ones, but just make sure it's packed out to give them security 👌
I totally did a dry run for my Poecilotheria metallica! I thought I was the only one😋😆 but on a serious note definitely helps keep things easy on the keepers end. Smooth!
Great video... and stressing the importance of planning ahead for the unexpected. I like those large critter keepers.... would prefer a clear lid thou lol...... have u ever had a T get their toes caught in the vent slots????
Man, I wish that they would make them with clear covers. Can you imagine? I have an idea for a custom cover for them that I'll have to try someday... :) I have not; have you? Thanks, Ann!
Very relieved that the rehouse went without a hitch. It could have ended up problematic. Obviously, this is a species I'll likely never consider getting because of the speed and potent venom, but I admire those that keep them responsibly, such as yourself. Once again, very nice vid. Thanks for sharing :) (Used to post as Brachypelmaguy1978, decided to start off a brand new account and finally plan on actually posting vids very soon.)
Hi Tom. I have a question about feeding arboreals. I only have a handful of them, all slings except for a juvie a. minatrix and p. irminia. I struggle with trying to get them to eat because they're all so reclusive and they have webbing, dirt curtains, or some other means of hindering my ability to get prey to them. The aboreal species I have currently are a. minatrix, p. Striata, p. pulcher, p. irminia, p. cambridgei. Most of them (except the pokie actually) stay hidden all of the time. I haven't seen my p. irminia in 6+ weeks. Is it ever acceptable to just leave a cricket in the enclosure if they're being reclusive about coming out and check back a day later? I've heard crickets can be risky to leave in. Terrestrials are just so much more straightforward for me. Thanks in advance.
Hello, Justin! My Poecilotheria and Psalmopoeus species have all been excellent hunters. They would all come out at night to hunt, and I never had an issue with them finding prey. They will also usually close off their burrows when in premolt. I would drop something in over night, and remove it if it's still there the next day. My Avicularia, on the other hand, seem to a little more tricky at times. Is the A. minatrix hunting okay?
@@TomsBigSpiders Thanks for responding! I tried leaving crickets in my psalmopoeus' enclosures overnight and so far I haven't found a trace of them so I suppose it may have worked. My A. Minatrix has always been more difficult to feed. She's in one of the taller AMAC boxes flipped upside down (with cork bark glued in to the upper part, all webbed up) so I don't destroy her webbing when I open it, but that makes her even more difficult to feed. She's not eaten in 3 weeks, but I just found out she molted maybe 4 days ago (she's reclusive so I didn't see it happen). She's still ignoring prey so I'm guessing she's not ready yet. Even before pre-molt I would have to flip the top upside down and drop a cricket in so it fell on her webbing and 4 out of 5 times she wouldn't eat. Anyway, thanks again I'm a newish keeper (started last Nov) but I already have 33 tarantulas so your husbandry videos have been incredible references.
Excellent video as always Tom! I love seeing how you do rehousings, particularly for species like this, so I can see them done (relatively) stress free. I'm about to place a nice birthday order for myself which will include an O. Phillipinus, N. Chromatus, and a P. Metallica. Wanted to watch this video because I'm also considering adding one of these to the order with 1 or 2 other more advanced species. Hope all is well and that you had a good Thanksgiving!
Hello, James! I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving as well! And thank you so much! Congrats on your latest order...you have some awesome species coming. :)
@@TomsBigSpiders Thanks! I'm really excited to be able to keep them. I ended up adding the regalis and a formosa. I was debating on also adding a C. lividum or a C. sp electric blue but decided on 2 Tapis (violaceus and rasti) instead since I absolutely love arboreals
wooooow, a haircut, nice! As I am considering to get two p.regalis the absolutely perfect video for me right now. Do you have any information about communals of those guys? Do they work as well as your p.metallica communal seems to work? (If I do that it will happen faaaaaar further down the road but I would love to get some information already) Thank you!
Hey, Alexander! Hahaha. I just pulled it back in a pony tail. I got sick of trying to get the green out of it due to the green screen. haha I know so folks have kept them communally, but I couldn't find a lot of info about how they do once they get larger. Someone I spoke to recently had 10 of them together, and I guess they were doing well. I would imagine that they would be very similar to the P. metallicas!
@@TomsBigSpiders seems you fooled me as well as the green screen :-D I am kind of tempted to try it but the slings I can get are already around 1.5" and have been kept separately so I am not sure if that is a good idea.
Crazy. You took so much less precaution with the P. Metallica communal. You actually seemed a little more nervous with this girl. But great job! I will definitely try this technique with my four P. Baras. Thanks again Tom
I was trying really hard not to rile her up. She's about twice the size of the P. mets, so I was taking my time. Nothing like an 8" pokie to get your blood pumping! Thanks, Kenny! :)
What I love about your videos is I can keep coming back to them to refresh my care knowledge & still find them interesting. I really enjoy them & learn from you. I like how you highlight positives in species that other people might call defensive, show their real shy characters xx
Question on feeding for Tom you said after a molt dubia roaches are good can you feed them dubia roaches more than that? Or is it better to mix up their diet say dubia roach and then crickets for a while or something
Hey Tom, hope you are doing well. Thanks for demystifying / dehorrifying the pokies. Mine are totaly chill, and quite easy to rehouse up to now. I think they poop at towards the sunny/light side because in natur it would be the direction away from the tree, since their vision isn't really the best. But it's always a mess :D Greet Video as always, thank you for the insights.
We've had our regalis 13 years now! Completely underrated in my opinion. Beautiful spiders! I always look forward to your videos, i feel even if we've been keeping spiders for many years now we can always learn something on your channel. Keep up the good work! Maybe you've got some advice for me though. . yesterday i discovered one of our slings dead, it could have been cause the box dried out and i didnt see it on time. Really beating myself up about it... have you had similar experiences? I feel like a bad keeper now although all of our Ts have done great for many, many years...
13 years? That's fantastic! Billie and I were just talking about how long they can live, and I had heard 12. Great to know! And I really appreciate that! I often worry that some of this stuff is only useful to newbies. :) Awwww...I'm so sorry to hear that. Yes, I've had it happen...and I still feel terribly about it. I had an A. anax sling years ago that I didn't moisten enough, and I found it dead. It was TOTALLY my fault, and it was totally preventable. Part of the problem was that I thought that it was an arid species, so I didn't need to be as diligent. I was dead wrong. I did learn from it, however, and I think that's important. Still, I know exactly how you feel. :(
@@TomsBigSpiders Thank you for your reply, means a lot to me! Yes, i guess we learn from stuff like that. It probably just shows that we care about our spiders, guess it would be worse if i wouldnt question what happened :( I have used many of your rehousing techniques already, i havent been so creative myself !! I feel calmer when i know every possible way out is blocked for the spider. And im sorry if the grammar isnt correct all the time, english is not my first language. Greetings from Germany ! :)
Just picked a couple of these over the holidays. They're under or around 2". I was a bit apprehensive about getting into the pokies, the whole "teleporting" thing is a bit scary. Nice transfer. Also, its interesting to see them housed in what I might call a "non-traditional" arboreal enclosures. I was actually glad to see that. About half my collection is arboreal now and I was wondering if I had shot myself in the foot, enclosure wise, having gone that route. It looks like xtra-large critter keeper, or other similar type, more traditional enclosures are ok to use. Kind of a relief. I hate wasting money and in this hobby, the more you can save, the more Ts you can get. :-)
Hey, bud! I've kept 14 different species, and I haven't had any issues with them. The potential is always there, but I think that in most circumstances it's avoidable. Yeah, I've done a lot of experimenting with arboreal enclosures, and I find that I like ones that leave more room up top for me to work. I've used those x-larges for quite a lot of them, and they work great. And I agree completely! hahaha
Took my time waiting to purchase one of these from Fear Not Tarantulas because they were available for so long. Finally went to purchase one last month and they’re not available 🤦🏻♂️ I’ve considered getting a hanumavilasumica while they’re still available. I know it’s a rare opportunity. Is the hanumavilasumica equally as beautifully striking? As always great rehouse!
Awesome species I'm absolutely crazy about poecilotheria and have 2 of these females. Least yours didn't bolt and get out like in my rehouse video. Great job Tom
Thank you so much for making videos with super-safe rehousing guides. This may sound silly for someone who just started keeping tarantulas, but I’m slightly scared of the buggers. Mine are still just slings at this point, but once they reach their adult sizes I have no doubt that if one escapes in the process of rehousing I would leave the country lmao.
What an absolute beautiful girl! this will definatley be my first pokie.... when i get to the point my heart doesnt pund out of my chest at the thought of rehousing them lol. Your rehousing videos help soooo much!!! i binge watch your channel all day when im working LOL You are awesome!!!
Thank you so much! Hahaha. Yeah, that's the trick. If just thinking about a rehouse freaks you out, wait a bit. :) And that's awesome! haha Thanks again!
Tom Moran luckily it did actually bolted on me twice lol after it settled in it’s enclosure it put dirt in the cap where I put the war so I took it out n when I put it back in an started filling it with water boom bolted haha it’s quite nice though it’s a 1 inch but I still enjoy looking at it trying to hide behind the fake plant.
Hi, David. All of the Poecilotheria species I have kept, including the regalis, have burrowed a bit until they hit about 4" or so. At that point, they will still hide, but you'll catch them out on their cork bark more often.
@@TomsBigSpiders Thanks haven't seen mine since she went inside the bark she webs one end as it like a tree trunk hollowed out very skittish such lovely spiders would recommend Researching them b4 buying did my research wrong looking at the Asian one now knowing the background and handling it carefully.
Hi Tom, I know this is an older thread but I'm considering getting a P. regalis. My question is as juveniles, are they ok in a container without height? The dealer I go to has 3 females 2", 3" & 4". I'm debating between the 2 and the 3 but don't want to buy a special enclosure since they will outgrow it quickly. For the larger size, when it gets there, I have an Exo Terra Mini Tall (12 x 12 x 18).
Hey, Mike! No, I would not advise putting them in a shallow container. I would either get an appropriate enclosure or wait until you have one. I use these for arboreals that size, and they work great and cost about $5 each. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PF8NV7N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Good luck!
Hey tom I have 2 questions for ya 1. Do u have any videos in emperor scorpions ( I'd love to hear a pod cast talking about those guys ) 2. Have you ever thought about changing your intro music to something heavier?
Hello, Ryan! 1. Yes, although I don't know if I did a full husbandry video on them. I bred mine and produced babies a while back. ruclips.net/video/uN5Ip0nHor0/видео.html 2. Yes, I have, but it's never going to happen. The last time I swapped it out for metal, many folks were turned off. Although I love harder music, many don't. This theme will likely be it for the long run!
Hey Tom! Great video, I've been waiting for a P regalis vid for a while, thanks for providing one ☺️ I have 100 questions, mostly about sexing which I know is a big debate in Poecilotheria sp, but I know you're a busy man, so I'll just ask a non sexing question. What size should I start expecting the cream band and yellow marking on the legs to start showing? I got a 3/4" sling back in July and it molted last week and is now sitting at just above 3" so I can definitely agree with the growth rate.
Hello, Brian! I was actually shocked when I realized that I had never done one before. I believe mine started showing it at around 4" or so. I just found old pics of mine around 3", and she didn't have them yet. Yup, you'll have a 7" on your hands in no time! haha
Thank you again for chiming in!
love how you take the safest route an teach how to do it ..means a lot to so many of us
Thank YOU so much for getting what I'm trying to do. :)
I’ve used your liter bottle method every time I move my spiders, works perfect
That's great! I'm so glad that it's helpful!
She is truly a stunningly gorgeous spider. I’m in awe.
Thank you so much, Joshua! This and the vittata are one of my all-time favorite species.
I do not have any tarantulas yet. I’ve been watching lots of videos , this is the first rehousing video I’ve seen that uses this cardboard trick. Thank you so much for this video.
Hello! I hope that it works for you if you try it!
AMEN! I agree completely that the regalis are overlooked. That contrast is just SO striking. Thanks!
I mean I love the vittata...
I actually found the regalis to be the interesting one over the metalica but i love both and i plan on getting both
Gorgeous Tarantula Tom. This rehousing went perfect. Thank you for all the tips in this one. And thank you for producing and uploading this video on a Sunday.
Thank you so much, Ed! I'm glad that it actually worked out!
I just bought a P. regalis and your videos always help me feel more comfortable with your experience about my tarantula care being done right.
That's awesome! I guess that this was good timing then. :) Thank you!
@@TomsBigSpiders 🥰🥰🥰🤘🤘🤘
Hola, Tink! :) So glad to hear that they all went well. :) And thank you so much!
Got my P.regalis and P.metallica today, this video is very informative keep it up!
Congrats, Dave! I'm so glad that it was helpful!
I don’t mind the Mainstay containers. I poke ventilation big enough to get my prodding stick through, reaching the spider with no problem. Great video, Tom.
Yeah, those work great! Thanks so much!
I used this method with my h mac and it worked wonderfully. Great idea. I get most of my info from you. I know you see me quite often down here lol.
That's awesome! I'm so glad that it worked out for you. And thanks for commenting!
I JUST got one of these today as a surprise freebee in a sling order. What ideal timing. :D

It shouldn't take too long...they grow pretty fast. And congrats! I LOVE that species!
That's awesome! I catch my girl out quite a bit, but she will retreat to her burrow when disturbed. Yours may remain bold! And thank you so much!
Jason my.ine does the same . That is a good fact you about doing the business away from there den so predators don't fine them . Really good question.
I didn't think about the block the light part. They sure do a nice job coating the wall! Thanks so much for chiming in, bud! :)
Awesome spider Tom!.. terrific job on the rehouse as well
Thank you so much! I'm glad that it went well!

:) Thanks!
Awesome video as always! The P Regalis was the first pokie I got, and I love him
My first Pokie was a P. vittata, and she definitely intimidated me a bit! I'm glad that the rehouse went well. Thanks!

My P regalis sling is almost always out where it can be seen. I've been pleasantly surprised by how relaxed it is. I hope it keeps that personality as it grows.
HI, Bobbie! I may stay just as calm when it's older. Usually, the slings are a bit skittish! :)
Oh no! That does NOT sound like fun. haha I can only imagine how on edge everyone must have been for those three days. haha So glad that you were able to recapture Hairy! haha
I agree, a gorgeous spider. Thanks again Tom.

So weird how I order 3 P.regalis slings and get this video pop up straight after lool, brilliant video and lots of info imma defiantly come back to this one every rehouse
Yay! I love it when I time them right. haha Thank you!
C versicolor was also my first arboreal and it did the same thing to me lol
Just ordered a 1" sling :) thanks for the video, Tom. This will be the perfect reference when its time for a rehouse! :)

Cool, calm and collected. Then again when you're a teacher thats something you have to practice on a daily basis haha
Ha! Man, you're not kidding. hahaha!!
I do the knock on wood thing all of the time. haha
Wouldn't that be great, Ron? hahaha Thanks, bud!
@@TomsBigSpiders that's what I do, if things start going south I stop and try again later. And your correct I think, remaining calm is extremely important. Stress harbors mistakes I think.
@@ronfults3844 EXACTLY, Ron! I agree completely!
Hi,
I saw you like your Poecilotheria adults in 19-38 litre tubs.
Hey Tom,
Thanks for the reply 👍
Yes I've seen my Regalis out several time during the night when the lights are out and exploring her enclosure.During the day,she just hides and I see her tucked up in her cork tube safe and sound, but comes out at night and does her thing.Ive used the 12x12x18 exo terra in the past and they are fantastic enclosures !
Smooth!
Ha! Nope, we do them all of the time! haha I agree completely. It takes the guesswork out of it! :)

Hey, bud! Thanks so much!!! :)
This is great timing, considering I ordered a P Regalis this morning, and it’s my first Pokie!
Sweet! I've had a lot of people ask about them lately, so I was hoping that this one would be timely. :)
(If I do that it will happen faaaaaar further down the road but I would love to get some information already)
Thank you!
Hey, Alexander! Hahaha. I just pulled it back in a pony tail. I got sick of trying to get the green out of it due to the green screen. haha
I know so folks have kept them communally, but I couldn't find a lot of info about how they do once they get larger. Someone I spoke to recently had 10 of them together, and I guess they were doing well. I would imagine that they would be very similar to the P. metallicas!
@@TomsBigSpiders seems you fooled me as well as the green screen :-D
I am kind of tempted to try it but the slings I can get are already around 1.5" and have been kept separately so I am not sure if that is a good idea.
Love the new intro😍
Thank you so much, Roxy! :)
Was nervous while watching you guys rehousing ,even forgot to breathe some times ! Great video as always !
Hahaha. Nothing like a bit of suspense. haha :) Thank you !
Stunning T and a stunning bite lol. Great vid man get well soon man!!
Hello, Justine! Hahaha Indeed! And thank you! Hopefully, I shake this cold soon.
She is stunning 😍.
I'm watching to get tips before Oreo my Regalis needs a rehouse xx
What I love about your videos is I can keep coming back to them to refresh my care knowledge & still find them interesting.
I really enjoy them & learn from you. I like how you highlight positives in species that other people might call defensive, show their real shy characters xx
Hey, Laura! I love the name Oreo! haha Good luck with the rehouse!
Hi, Laura! That really means a lot...thank you!!!
Love the yellow bands underside of her legs, menacing looking 😂😂❤
That's nature's warning sign! haha
Question on feeding for Tom you said after a molt dubia roaches are good can you feed them dubia roaches more than that? Or is it better to mix up their diet say dubia roach and then crickets for a while or something
Oh, absolutely! I just don't want to burn through my colony, so I save them for certain occasions. haha
Thanks. Sometimes I forget you have quite a few more tarantulas then me so that makes sense.
just three pookies p.metillica,p.rufilata,p.regalis decided to get being in hobby for 6 years i'm going love them
Congrats on your pokies, Derek!
Hello, Christoph! Yup, mine have been well behaved as well. And that's a very good point about the sunlight! Thanks again!
@@TomsBigSpiders You're welcome. :) Always a pleasure watching your videos.
What a beauty! Good job!
Thank you so much!
Awwww...I'm so sorry to hear that.
Finally went to purchase one last month and they’re not available 🤦🏻♂️
I’ve considered getting a hanumavilasumica while they’re still available. I know it’s a rare opportunity. Is the hanumavilasumica equally as beautifully striking? As always great rehouse!
Hello, Anthony! I've done that some many times before with other species. The P. hanumavillasumica are just as striking, in my opinion. Thank you !
My favourite pokie TOM the regalis 🕷 I've now moved up a stage to owning old world species now, ive gone for the chilobrachys species
I love that species as well. My big old girl is just stunning.
hi tom, that's a lovely regalis you have there. what did you use to cover up the ventilation?
Thank you so much! I used colored duct tape on the top.
What did you use to block vent holes? Im interested in adapting a lid for a species that prefers some moisture but not dry. Thank you in advance!
I think on this one I used colored duct tape.
Awesome species I'm absolutely crazy about poecilotheria and have 2 of these females. Least yours didn't bolt and get out like in my rehouse video. Great job Tom
Hahahaha! Yeah, she totally behaved for me...thank GOD. Lol! Thanks, Robbie!
@@TomsBigSpiders my subfusca lowland didn't in the video I uploaded about an hour ago, and it's the 1st time a catch cup was of 0 help lol
Hahahaha. Yeah, I would NOT want one of these loose in my house. Billie would kill me. haha. And thanks so much!
What an absolute beautiful girl! this will definatley be my first pokie.... when i get to the point my heart doesnt pund out of my chest at the thought of rehousing them lol.
Your rehousing videos help soooo much!!! i binge watch your channel all day when im working LOL
You are awesome!!!
oh, was wondering, what was your first ever old world?
Thank you so much! Hahaha. Yeah, that's the trick. If just thinking about a rehouse freaks you out, wait a bit. :)
And that's awesome! haha Thanks again!
My first old world sling was a P. murinus (OBT). Shortly after that, I got my first Pokie, a 3" Poecilotheria vittata.
Just ordered a mature female for the Fourth of July sale!! I’m so stoked, I cannot wait to get her!
That's awesome, Jessica...congrats! Mine just molted, and she's huge now! :)
Got my regalis yesterday dude bolted like no tomorrow lol my little speedy Gonzalez
Congrats! Haha. Oh no! I hope everything went okay!
Can you do a video showing all of your Poecilotheria tarantulas?
I'm working on trying to get footage of them all now! :)
@@TomsBigSpiders Okay awesome.
Beautiful species! I just ordered one myself, its coming in thursday. Mine is about 3", hoping it grows fast.
So sorry for the delay...I missed a couple comments! Congrats on getting one. They are a stunning species. :)
What's your opinion on the P Striata ? Just ordered one from FNT .
Hi, Dan! Congrat! I love them myself, but Poecilotheria is my favorite genus.
so does the Ragalis Burrow as well as being a tree spider
I love your channel, please do more videos
Thank you so much! :)
Hey Tom what size kritter cage are you using? I have to rehouse a P regalis and P Metallica.
So sorry for the late reply! I use X-larges for the pokies.
Hey Tom, I was wondering how big she is now? I have a 2 1/2in and was also wondering how old she is? Thanks Tom!
Hi, Tyler! She molted about 5 months ago, and she's now about 7.5". :)
good video bro great advice
Thanks so much, Edward!
This was very informative! Thank you ☺️☺️☺️
Thank you for watching!
Great video but when it hit 12:39 it started buffering and I couldn't view the rest of the video. Sorry.
Well, that's odd. I'll have to see if it does that for me. Sorry.
@@TomsBigSpiders Tried 4 hrs. later and now it's working. Don't know what that was. Happy to be able to see the rest of the video.
Thanks Tom
Picked up the 3" yesterday. Do you recommend a bio-active setup for them?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 video bro.... very educational and entertaining. 🕷🕷🕷
Thank you so much, James!
Hey tom I have 2 questions for ya
1. Do u have any videos in emperor scorpions ( I'd love to hear a pod cast talking about those guys )
2. Have you ever thought about changing your intro music to something heavier?
Hello, Ryan!
1. Yes, although I don't know if I did a full husbandry video on them. I bred mine and produced babies a while back. ruclips.net/video/uN5Ip0nHor0/видео.html
Yup, you'll have a 7" on your hands in no time! haha
