    What I don’t understand is how these analyst say that Carmelo’s midrange Iso game is outdated, but Kawhi has been dominating the league with his midrange Iso game for the last couple of years 🤔 I mean obviously Kawhi is multi dimensional offensively but the midrange Iso game is definitely a key component to his offensive skill set.

      Exactly, all of their narratives are contradictory

    • @ChromaticTempest
      @ChromaticTempest 5 лет назад +4

      You think they have identical iso games? To point out one difference, Melo tends to do pullups into a strong contest while Kawhi is often fading which leaves the contest less effective... and dude, their shooting percentages aren't in the same hemisphere.

    • @thomaswhite7718
      @thomaswhite7718 5 лет назад +6

      ChromaticTempest At this point in the season their shooting percentages aren’t drastically different (Kawhi 44.2, Melo 39.1) but that’s not my point. To say that the midrange Iso game is outdated is a load of bs. Yeah, Kawhi fades away but Melo does a step back and gives a slight nudge similar to harden. Melo dropped 25 w/ 50% shooting percentage last game. The step back seems quite effective to me. Both moves are to create space. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. In the end great scorers have different ways to create space to get their shot up.

      @BG - He dropped 25. He obviously can score in a 2019 offense. The reality is... Melo got picked up by the Blazers after the regular season stated, with only 4 days advanced notice & started playing right away without any “team practice” time.
      He got an offer on a Friday, cleared his physical exam 3 days later on a Monday & played his very first game THE VERY NEXT DAY, on a Tuesday. Which means he never went to any team practices. (Maybe just 1, if any.)

    He looked pretty fucking good out there considering he just joined the team. I don't think any amount of film or practices in the short amount of time he's been on the roster can make him smooth in their in-game offense, especially being inserted as a starter. Maybe the contested 17 footer doesn't need to be such a go-to from him, but those shots that he did miss were close as can be and fairly decent looks given the shot clock. It was refreshing to see some bounce from him. LETS GOOOOO MELOOOOO

      He’s not “saving” any team and that’s just unrealistic expectations if you think he will do anything close to that. Being drafted alongside LeBron causes people to expect too much from someone who has been playing for 17 seasons. Most players don’t last that long.
      Melo can score and get rebounds. Doing it efficiently and providing decent defense is a different story. He was targeted a lot in OKC and Houston on PnR.

    I'm fine with the mid range iso.
    If he playing against 4s, he gotta take them off the dribble like he did Markenann, but that only works if he is capable of hitting shots.
    His getting his timing back still, once NB he does, I think he can hit them at a reasonable rate. There's still a few mid range shooters out there who are effective.

    Melo can help by making open shots as a spot up shooter and a Pop Man on the Pick N Pop. His vertical jump can't help him score in his matchups near the basket (even w/o help defense), and I'm surprised that he managed to make this slam dunk.
    On a side note, I can add that he needs to find the open man instead of taking some bad shots, and his defense is a concern as well.

    In the Blazers next game, I was getting deja vu. I swear they were running some of the old sets they'd run for Aldridge. Against the Thunder, he was in the midpost, back to the basket, hitting turn-around jumpers. Stotts has a history of being happy to take advantage of the mid-range looks that other teams surrender, particularly when he has a player who can hit those shots at an above average rate. This looked like the role that was carved out for Zack Collins before he went down with his shoulder injury, with lots of face up elbow jumpers and drives to the rim. Melo has honestly looked better than ZC on offense as he has began to pick up the the playbook (if you thought he looked out of place in the Bulls game, you should have seen him in New Orleans...). The hope is that Melo can help contribute to winning basketball and help get this team get back to 500, until they can make a trade sometime in late December - January. January / February is around when Nurk is expected back. If they are a 500 team by then, the back half of the schedule is much more friendly to the team, they could possibly go on a run and end up the 6th seed. A fully healthy roster, after a trade and maybe a buy out, this team could still be a tough out in the playoffs.

      Ugh, Kawow's midrange efficiency make's the midrange a viable game for him. Melo had some pretty meh #'s in the past few seasons, which suggests he should stick to spotting up at the 3 line where less efficiency is redeemable via the point offset. There are videos out there that break down the percentages and demonstrate how Kawhi has made it work. Melo just isn't as good as Kawhi at the midrange, pure and simple. Hell, he ain't as good as CJ at midrange. It's a bad comparison, buddy.

      @@ChromaticTempest No ones denying that or comparing.. Melo is not in his prime so thats a given lol.. However he is still a threat and respected from the face up position.. Those shots are good shots for him.. Hes always been a tough shot maker/shot creator.. Not to mention at 6'8 he can get his shot over just about anyone.. obviously he's not 25 anymore so you're not going to give him many of those ISO looks, but sprinkling in a few is not horrible.. If he has it Rolling and hits a couple that triple threat face up position puts pressure on the defense, can open up weak side shots and gives Portland a new wrinkle in the offense they desperately lack... Dame can use some rest on possessions from all the traps he faces when they only run pnr over and over and over..
