- Can freehand chainsaw milling be oddly satisfying? I found myself just sitting and watch the whole length clips while editing, so I thought "why not show the whole process in real time"?
Cutting a log this way makes the saw cut like butter through the wood, compared to a classic chainsaw mill. This is the first time I tried to cut a log freehand like this, and it was suprisingly simple to cut it pretty straight. Not perfect, and will of course waste more wood than a bandsaw mill, but I only have chainsaw.

Good job!
I''m suppose to get a half dozen full 60ft live pine trees from my neighbor, gonna try to mill something out of the longer straighter stuff.
Saw a vid where the guy screwed a 1x12 board to the logs for a straightedge, I'll likely go that route.
Why are you not wearing steel toe boots young man?
It looks like it takes patience. I am working on that but my cuts are still a bit jagged. Thanks for the peek over your shoulder as you work.
hope you own a jointer
Dude !!!!! You have a GREAT eye and a hell of a sharp chain. Great
Thank you! Cheers!
Oddly, kinda interesting to watch as well :)
hehe, trying to ride the "oddly satisfying" wave.

Real nice cut, Is it a Rip-Off chain you use?
Thanks, it's just a regular chain. Never tried a rip chain before
