Joey I just followed it and I'm up and running and the sticks are SO MUCH BETTER - They're taller!! I'm so pleased. The ribbon on the main stick I wasn't sure if it was seated but it was, your close up a little after installing was good I compared side by side. Thanks for doing this!
I used a plastic pick to lift them, they're thick stickers, then they have an opening cut, so you push them over the shaft of the stick (lifted and unstuck) then line up the bottom of the sticker edge with the lower end of the stick housing. There is meant to be a bit of sticker overhang on the top of the stick unit/box. Hope that helps.
Appreciate your hard work. I have RG556 and I feel like this is one of the worst sticks I've ever used in a long time. It's great that gulikit sticks makes it slightly better, but doesn't really look all that much better to invest another $20 into this for a marginal gain.
Thanks tons for the tutorial. My RG 556 didn't even come with the full analog range when I bought mine. I was fine running forwards, but backwards... as long as I didn''t need to move left. Thank you! my left joystick drifts a lot, so i was not sure what kind of joystick is to be replaced. This is a great guide, I will change it for the Gulikit
Job done, thanks for this. Just finished and only a few minutes gameplay since but I can already feel a difference. To those who are considering embarking, as he says, it is on the difficult side. The ribbon cables are rather fiddly and for some I found it easiest to reseat them by hand and others using a narrow tip set of tweezers. Also note it is the black bits that you need to "flick" to open and close on the ribbons, not the white. For the left stick in particular if you start pulling at the white part it is going to break off. Mine was still functional luckily but FYI. Go slow and do this somewhere you can leave it and come back to it if needed...you may need a sanity break :) Finally, when you are removing the main board to get to the right stick, note that there is one black wire that remains attached. If you watch that part of the video you can see it at the bottom but it's not metnioned, so just know you are just moving that board a bit and not pulling it all the way clear of the device.
my LEDs have been randomly flashing (only when the device is off). Flashes maybe once every 30s so it's not fast but it is relatively consistent. The LED controls work. I can turn them on, off, breathe, increase/decrease intensity. Usually when I play I have them at the lowest intensity or off.
I followed all the steps and at the final one when I turn it on, it makes the vibrating response but the screen is all black, doesn’t display a thing. Battery is fine as charging led works, I checked all the flex cables but they look well hooked, any advices?
Could someone please help me out, I’m a little lost. Ive been trying to play all the Pokémon games I can and was wondering if any of these could play all of them up to the 3ds and the best one for that. As well as the best on for Pokémon games up to the ds. Also does it work since the ds has 2 screens
Yes, considering that this device's predecessor can run most 3DS games, since this is more powerful, it should run it well. As for any other platforms lower than 3ds, it definitely can. Including the DS. The 2 screen can be addressed by setting up a hotkey on the emulator so that when you click the hotkey, it will switch to the other screen. You can also set it up to be a side by side 2 screen, but there will be some thick black borders. Still looks great since this is an amoled screen.

Are you sure? The sticks calibrate during startup, so don't touch the sticks when booting up. I've seen people say they have drift when that was the problem.
I've got a 556 on the way, and intend swapping the sticks before too long, but seriously, use some form of ESD protection unless you're happy with trashing your handheld. I can see from the comments that plenty of people have swapped them with no issues, but that doesn't mean you weren't lucky. A cheap ESD strap and mat from Amazon will cost a lot less than having to replace the entire device. Amongst other things, I repair laptops down to board level, and I've seen plenty of components blown through ESD. Also, if you remove the heat sink, you should clean off the old compound and replace it, otherwise you're going to have issues later. I feel that this video needs a disclaimer, along the lines of "If you don't know what you're doing, you're probably going to f**k the long-term reliability of your 556".
For anyone reading this comment and worrying, ESD will not kill your device and if you're really worried just touch a metal radiator/ pc case/ anything grounded before you start.
