    Happy Saturday everyone! Something a bit different today! I've not done a tutorial in a long time, and I thought I'll do something easy. Turns out Android TV has changed a lot in the last year or two and Nest have totally bollocksed up their Android TV app so this was an utter nightmare to achieve 🤣 Easy to replicate though now I've gone through that pain so I hope this one helps you all out! There's no sponsorship on this one so if you fancy buying me a beer as a thank you then the details are below, as usual no pressure at all to do so...

    Don't have a camera doorbell, just watching for entertainment value (and a little for Tasker curiosity). Question though: are the automated button press coordinates always the same? I guess potentially for this app they are, but what if someone wanted something similar to your tutorial, but launch a different app with different button placement? How would they find the right coordinates?

    • @TheoWillemse
      @TheoWillemse 3 года назад

      If I'm not mistaken, the coordinates are counted from top left to bottom right. If you have a lower or higher resolution it could be these coordinates are not for you. You could however check the developer options of that android device to see if there is an option that shows the coordinates. Guess these coordinates are pixel based so you could also do a raw calculation. It's quite a big area where you can click in.

    • @cerietke
      @cerietke 3 года назад

      @@TheoWillemse With a little luck there might be an app that can give you the coordinates. I was hoping Paul might add how he got them to his post, as people will likely look there first and it seems like a bit of an oversight for the tutorial not to mention how he obtained them.
      And agreed, top left to bottom right seems sensible, different resolution would most likely change it for other devices. I also remember a well hidden setting in Android for how much screen elements should be enlarged, which I once used to make everything on my phone a bit smaller. Unfortunately I don't remember the specific setting, but it needed a terminal command so it probably isn't commonly used. In any case, it seems likely that the coordinates can vary.

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  3 года назад +5

      Trial and error is the only way I've found to do it, just punch some numbers in and then press play in tasker and see where the mouse ends up clicking, repeat the process until the mouse is clicking in the right place 😊

    Paul, this video showed up on my feed and not noticing it was 3 years old, I started watching it. I don’t have any of the equipment you used, but I watched the entire video. This is one of the best and most clear instructional setup videos I have ever seen. You missed your calling as a corporate trainer. Well done. I am curious though, certainly you didn’t learn all these disparate programs to link together by trial and error and inspiration, so my question to you is where did you get the procedures from that you based this video on? If it’s been too long to remember or you are too busy to answer anyway, well done. I don’t know how well this video aged, most technical software videos don’t age well past the first software update, but since the utube algorithm is recommending this video, you might want to check and see if the steps are all still correct.

    Hi Paul, I know you did this video a while back but I had a number of questions. As a newbie I'm trying to automate some things for my parents home and the idea of being able to have the video doorbell automatically display on the TV for them would be fantastic I understand the basic concepts of what you were putting together - now to my questions. Since a bit of time has passed are any of the steps/tools need to be updated to do this? The TV my parents have is a new Samsung - 55” Class S95B OLED 4K Smart Tizen TV so I assume it has the capability to install the apps you talked about in it's OS. They have a eufy video doorbell. They also don't have an android phone, but they do have an IPAD that can run the eufy app and receive doorbell notifications. Does the tasker app work on an ipad or does it need to be an android phone? I'd love any advice you can give on how to get this automated process started. I'd be happy to buy you a few beers so we can chat - let me know your thoughts.
    Love all your videos and I hope you have a great new year and look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Thnx

    Is there a way to distinguish between different types of notifications within Tasker? Like, for example, getting a notification from a Nest thermostat vs the doorbell camera.

    Great video but how do you do this without using nest app? Like say Eufy doorbell?

    • @paulhibbert

      Replace nest app with Eufy and select the Eufy app throughout the tutorial instead of nest 😊 the only other thing you might have to change is where the mouse clicks on the screen when configuring autoinput.

    You wouldn't happen to know how to click the dialogs on the installed app when I bring it up in Firetv? I installed Amcrest Pro View, and got it to launch, however, it brings up a dialog I need to click OK on but I can't reach it using the FireTv control. I also connected a mouse to my TV (LG, which is webOS), however, it only seems to control the TV dialogs. Thanks in advance.

    I know there is a way to grab the actual stream file by making a Google developers account and tapping into it that way, it would be a quicker startup but probably more complicated. Or the Google assistant has a voice command to open the camera directly that could also be implemented into tasker instead. I think that can only be done with the new Chromecast though.

    • @Far_Ken
      @Far_Ken 3 года назад

      Depending on the stream type, wonder if that could be pushed directly to VLC media player, which is readily available on Android TV.

    • @techguy348
      @techguy348 3 года назад +1

      @@Far_Ken from what I remember it is a standard rtmp stream but the encryption key rotates. Probably better off trying to work the google assistant command into tasker to open it so everything is happy.

    Hello does this feature still work on Nvidia shield. Because after I signed into my Google account and gave permissions, then in nest app clicked not now my doorbell camera still never showed up on screen just the nest app with my thermostat. I uninstalled nest app and tried that same step again still no doorbell camera on TV

    Thanks for figuring all of that out for me! I'd've given it a few hours, then resigned it to the "I'll figure it out later" pile. It's a big pile, mostly Home Assistant related.

      So I’ve figured this home assistant part .
      It goes ;
      Create- event - ui
      Action - launch app- google assistant- say - show “camera nam”
      The part I’d love to figure out is how to get all this to run smoothly in the background.

    Just a thought. I don't have nest and haven't used Tasker in a while. If the nest app is on the shield, would you get notifications on the shield and eliminate the phone steps. Would this not work or do notifications not come through on TV or are we just keeping notifications off so that it doesn't interrupt movies etc. Also, can you have it look for a specific word within a notification or someway to only open app with specific camera?

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  3 года назад +1

      This is how I planned to do it before I realised android TV had done away with notifications in favour of toast pop ups. This ruined my day big time 😂
      The answer to your second question is yes. You can put specific notes in your push bullet and have tasker react differently to different notifications. 😊
