The thing I've always loved about David Fincher is that he came up thru music videos so he developed a really strong visual style, but he's never sacrificed character development/acting for the sake of *how* the film looks. He gets SUPERB performances from his cast while still crafting some of the most gorgeous films you'll ever see. Even when the subject matter is dark.

Fincher is a master. His camera work is meticulous. Se7en is decades old now and I use it in my film class with seniors in high school. They are blown away. The violence doesn’t need to be in your face. Fincher knows what to show and his lighting is perfect. Many actors cannot work with him. Does countless takes.
