The Pro model is still great value. The Steam Deck is a drastically different beast, and I don't know why people keep comparing them as a value proposition. It's big and hot, with obtrusive fans and worse battery life. Odin 2 is less powerful, but it's small and cool, and can run your retro games for hours at a time. I can press the sleep button, and then instantly resume my game a full day later with nearly full battery. I'd like to see you do that with Steam Deck.
Just FYI when it comes to battery life, if you're only gonna play emulation like PS2 games on SD like in Odin 2 you get longer battery life. You only get shorter battery life if you're playing pc games.
@6:25 brilliant suggestion…This is what gets some people to buy a device like this year over year anticipating it will be able to run switch flawless but then quickly realize it doesn’t. This loop will eventually break when the technology gets so good. By then, the switch will be even older than it is today. I ended up just buying a switch lite. I’m over the switch emulation scene. We’re still a few years out. Gonna save money now.
For me the Odin 2 suits my needs exactly. It's not too big like the Steam Deck and it's comfortable to hold for a long time. It's arm based chip, meaning it'll hold for years to come. I can emulate tons of games and I can use Steam Link and cloud gaming for PC gaming, which is what I mostly need. I only have a Switch Lite (and a computer), in terms of consoles so I think the Odin 2 will suit nicely uwu I purchased the pro BTW! So excited for it to arrive!!
you forgot to mention the huge battery life, you can straight up play demanding ps2 games gow 2 for 6 hrs straight with no fps drops or thermal throttle. Even better, you can play super mario galaxy 2 using dolphin for 8 hrs straight again with no drops or thermal throttle. Switch is the hardest to emulate but mario odyssey gives around 3hrs of constant playtime.
I wanted to get one but I already blew some money on a gaming phone and RP3 plus. Which kinda filled the role of this excellent device. If I knew Odin 2 was coming out, I would've held back and picked this instead.
There’s never the right time to buy a device because there’s always something new coming out basically every couple of weeks of the year the best thing you can do is finding the perfect device that fits your specific use case and enjoy it even if it’s not the newest shiniest thing
I think the battery life is the most understated about this thing and comparisons with steam deck are useless because it's two different architectures along with 2 different power consumption targets. In emulation alone, odin 2 has way better battery life than steam deck on running similar emulated titles in their respective architectures. Saw some battery estimations, you can run a ps2 game like gow 2 straight for 8hrs straight with 50% screen brightness+50% volume. Also it fills in different needs, someone who needs a pocketable device for quick and long gaming sessions ESPECIALLY EMULATION ALONE it's a better choice
My Odin 2 pro can run Tears of the Kingdon at 30fps 80 percent of the time. In another year, Yuzu should be much better ans we will likely be able to push TotK to 60fps. My Steam Deck can run TotK only slightly better but the Yuzu on Linus is over 6 years old. I don't mind waiting on Yuzu on android a little bit longer.
Snapdragon 8 gen 2 is easily powerful enough for switch emulation. The emulator just needs more optimization but idk if that will ever happen due to Nintendo suing yuzu. If we had a wii u emulator for android it would be perfect.
I have been seeing that this console runs PS2 games in 1080p with a texture pack and it seems that the steam deck does not and I am very interested in emulating that platform and also emulation in general, which console do you recommend buying between Odin 2 and Steam deck?
Depends on what you’re more focused on if you just want more general gaming, I would go for the steam deck but if you’re hard-core focused on just doing emulation get the odin 2
Steam Deck can also emulate with texture packs but the resolution is 800p anyway and it depends on the game as well. I have had no issues running texture packs for on PS2 or GC/Wii games on my Steam Deck. That said, the Steam Deck uses PCSX2 which is still being worked on and is more optimized. Android is good for emulating but when you get to PS2, GC/Wii, Switch…the emulator versions for Windows and Steam Deck are better.
I get what you are saying about devices and buying them for what they are now and not what they could be. But the argument becomes flimsy when were talking about devices using PC architecture. The first generation of Aya Neo and Onexplayer owners are STILL enjoying their devices not because of the support of companies that made those devices but because Intel has been upgrading their GPU drivers and performance has shifted greatly. Perhaps, this could also be just 'Luck-o-the-draw'.
I’ll be honest at the time of recording this particular video I kind of 100% forgot to test 3DS but thanks to your comment. I decided to take a look at 3DS emulation and I’m happy to inform you it runs pretty good definitely markedly better than the previous model so if you want this device for 3DS, you’ll be happy with the purchase I did test every single possible game but the games I did test were super Mario, 3-D land Kirby, planet Robot Samus returns
"[...] Nintendo Switch emulation could be amazing 2 or 3 years from now [...]" brother I'm running all of my switch games at full speed on my Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 using the yuzu NCE update and the much anticipated Strato is releasing within the next couple of days wdym!?!?!!
I was probably over exaggerating a little bit there But I was mainly referring to like a 100% of the entire library playable but I get what you’re coming from. It was a bit over exaggerated.
I still think the Deck just offers more versatility and bang for the buck on a broad scale. Other devices may do certain things better, but the ability to do virtually everything extremely well (emulate, play old and new PC games, media playback, remote play) at a realtively budget price just can't be beat.
I'll say pro is much better value considering it plays switch emulation much better. And steam deck is too big!! it can play triple a games but only 2 hours!! it will kill it's battery life as it needs to be recharged too frequently.
I just love the clean design of the Odin 2, looks very premium (hence the price, get what you pay for here), easily my favourite handheld design.

I just got mine delivered today! Can't wait to set it up and start gaming!
By far best Handheld! Got few days ago. All set up. Unbelievable Results. Very Very Happy

True but I don’t like the stream deck controls design
it took time to get used to it, and for me, it was kind of fucky at first.
Why is the footage sped up?
Is there specific section that you were referring to?
How is the odin with 3ds games? seems nobody talks about it

Ordered Odin2 Max as the SD doesn't support Android.

Bro, please use yuzu, skyline is not even supported for like 8 months now
Base model is still out of stock
I mean if your gonna for the pro or the max, might as well buy a Steam Deck, the higher tier models is in Steamdeck territory so not worth it.
I sold my 2tb steam deck and bought the Legion Go in November and just bought the Odin 2 max for emulation
I still think the Deck just offers more versatility and bang for the buck on a broad scale. Other devices may do certain things better, but the ability to do virtually everything extremely well (emulate, play old and new PC games, media playback, remote play) at a realtively budget price just can't be beat.
The Deck is too bulky and heavy and the battery is pretty woeful, so long sessions are best on Odin.
I'll say pro is much better value considering it plays switch emulation much better. And steam deck is too big!! it can play triple a games but only 2 hours!! it will kill it's battery life as it needs to be recharged too frequently.
Very fair
TOTK getting 30fps with new yuzu update
Thank you for letting me know. I’ll make sure to install the new update so I can have more revised information going forward.
