Thanks very much Chris for pointing out the 'Enable auto select' setting. The default blocked me from using sends. Even presonus support could not help me with that. You made my day😊

Hey Chris, evidently there's a firmware update which enables 'Midi Mode'. This is accessed by pressing both Shift button, faders are then assigned to CC1, CC11, CCetc. Did you check this out also? Cheers

Your entire tutorial here was useful, but until I saw the part on "Auto Select," nothing was working properly. This is a key default that needs to get unchecked, else you're going to have a lot of issues and be wondering what's actually happening. Other than that, this is a brilliant overview! Thank you so much

With current firmware on the faderport 8 holding both shift buttons you can enter midi mode on the fly, I set up quick controls on the 8 faders in midi mode, works great.

    Hey Boss and followers!
First very early feedback on the FP8 in combination with Cubase (12 pro for me).
Installation following Chris tips is rapid and easy.
First frustration: when moving the channels or banks, the image in the mixer screen doesn't follow... So, you rather quickly come out the screen and have to use the mouse to view the FP8 channels on screen.
Another frustration: when selecting a channel on screen (mixer view), the FP8 doesn't follow and you have to move the bank to the right position.
For the rest, and up until now for a basic usage, it works quite well.

I thought he showed in the video that selecting the track on the screen also selected the track on the controller?
I'm interested to know what you think of the device on other ways.
Did you find it good for controlling plugins like fabfilter?

    • @scargoprods
      @scargoprods Год назад

@________ Selecting a track on the screen selects it on the FP8, but the FP8 doesn't automatically "move" to this track, so you have to turn the blue knob. Not a real problem for me in real life.
I don't use the FP8 as a plugin controller, and even never tried to do so.

    Great video, Chris!
Question: It's been 2 years since you posted it. Now, in 2022 (almost 2023), do you still find it woth it (Faderport 16) as a Cubase controller?
I'm driving myself crazy about this subject, since I've believe there are no controllers specifically integrated to Cubase nowadays.
Have you found other options (in budget or not).
    Cheers, bro!

Every viewer of this video will eventually get BOME midi translator just to use the FP3 midi mode. It is probably the most practical way to take control of midi CC channels, and if you read up on Bome manuals you can also create unlimited shift layers to control different virtual instruments. It's pretty awesome when paired with BOME.

In case it's helpful to anyone, the VI/Midi button does work even though the documentation says it doesn't in Cubase (I'm not referring to "midi mode", just the VI/Midi button). Perhaps there was a firmware upgrade since Chris posted this video. In any case, you can scroll through the various parameters like expression, mod, vibrato, etc. using the knob in the upper left and control via automation lanes using the faders (bidirectional) if you're OK with automation lanes instead of midi event CC data.

Hello Chris, your video has been incredibly informative, and I've gone through all three parts. The setup process was smooth, and most features are working seamlessly. However, I'm encountering issues with two functionalities: Sends and Edit Plugins.
In Sends mode, I've noticed a challenge with controlling the Sends levels on the selected channel. Instead of adjusting the intended Sends, the faders seem to move to another channel. For instance, when working on a channel with three Sends, using the first three faders should adjust the levels accordingly. Unfortunately, the faders sometimes switch to a different channel, making it a bit of a struggle to ensure the right fader on the selected channel is used.
Similarly, in Edit Plugins mode, I'm facing a similar challenge. When selecting a plugin, one of the knobs works correctly. However, when I switch to the next function, the fader jumps to another channel instead of adjusting the desired parameter on the selected channel.
I appreciate the wealth of information you've shared, and your guidance has been invaluable. Any insights on addressing these specific issues with Sends and Edit Plugins would be highly appreciated. Thanks again for your fantastic content!

Hey Chris, your video was a game-changer for me. Watched all three parts and got everything set up smoothly, but the Sends and Edit Plugins threw me for a loop. After digging through the comments, someone mentioned the magic solution - turn off "Enable Auto Select" in Mackie Control in Studio Setup.
Then, on my second go-around at the 16-minute mark, I heard you mention the same fix - unchecking "Enable Auto Select" stops the crazy track jumping. Now everything's running like a charm. Huge thanks for breaking down the controller intricacies in your video!

    Hey boss!
Many thanks from Belgium for this review!
As a quite amateur Cubase user (for 20 years, and until very recently only using it as a volumes adjuster and panning tool), I'm actually on search of an external controller, mainly for comfort reason.
The idea came after viewing a video of your good friend Dom Sigalas "promoting" the Console 1 fader. But this controller is quite limited and sold for a price needing comparison.
Few challengers came out in the same price rznge: the Behringer X touch and the Faderport 8. (Even if, basically, a single fader controller could already help me a lot for 4 times less money... but I'd feel frustrated while knowing what an extended console can do...).
What is very clear after hours of reading/watching reviews: the perfect controller doesn't exist yet! It could probably be a new Steinberg one, but no sign from their part actually...
So, two controllers left: the X touch and the FP8.
Most reviews point out the fact that FP8 is perfect for the Studio One users but quite limited for others.
Most of the X touch reviews are generally more positive, but the global perceived quality isn't that great.
So, back to start... and to my initial questions. And to the conclusion: there's no affordable solution for me, outside the single fader ones. Back to frustration too, thus...
Until I discovered your serie about the FP8, clearly demonstrating that the so-called limitations are not as prohibitive as (early) presented. Probably Presonus made several updates to make the Faderport 8/16 more suitable for Cubase users during the last 6 years.
What you show clearly demonstrates that the basics are 100% present and functional with a good qualitative level. Years will probably pass before I get really embarrassed by what it can't do... and before I properly use what it brings!
So, you made me decide to go for the Presonus Fadertport 8!
