Awesome review Roger! The best way to get the stick to not show up in the footage is to align it so it is not tilted on the stick (it's in the blind spot of the camera). I am glad you found overcapture, I find it very useful as well, and we apply HyperSmooth to the movement so it feels like you shot it with an actual GoPro.

I used the MAX with my older GoPro Pole 40” “white edition” (not sure if that’s the right name for it) and set the camera as parallel in line to the pole as possible. Then I also used the shorter screw lock to prevent any chance of the longer stock screw lock getting in the way of the stitch. This I think would help anyone avoid a possible blur/issue with their stitch quality. It worked awesome. I’ve seen other videos where ppl recommend not using longer poles due to stitch issues but personally I had no problems...the camera works the best the further you put it from you. My snowboarding videos and photos taken have my friends asking me if I used a drone :) no drone needed just the MAX.
Took the leap and bought one, dissapointed it does not come with a selfie stick of any type like the Fusion did. I hear the new firmware update now allows 50fps so you can now do a semi slow mo.

First GoPro camera where nobody is crying abut battery or overheating or random shut offs. Buying this 100%. BTW position any 360 camera exactly 180 with the stick to cut it out.
Ordered mine after your previous video. Looking forward to getting it.... will be a nice compliment to the hero 8.

You can’t angle it in the way that it don’t show the pole + your hand. However you can angle it in the way that it don’t show the pole.
If you want your hand out of screen I suggest to put the lens on linear or something like that 👍🏼 for the sun thingy you was talking about I recommend keeping both lenses sideways aimed at the sun. If you have one lens facing the sun and the other facing the other side then you will have problems with the sun. 💪🏼 cool video!!

Killer video and great summary. It was a tough call, but I just received my Max today. The big disadvantage is that it doesn't appear to have external mic capabilities whereas the 8 does. This is a bummer for recording cockpit audio. The benefits of the Max far outweigh that issue, though. I'll just have to figure out how to capture audio in another way and sync them together in post.
Decided to give the Max a shot and I'm not regretting it. For riding motorcycle, snowboarding the 360 cam are awesome and on top the panorama pics are great. I can upload without having a expensive software and its not time consuming editing with the gopro app. At the moment it does the thing for me. The one thing I would change is that the design of the SD card slot is strange. I sometimes manage to stick it between the battery and the housing and it gets stuck. BR from germany
I bought a max. Do you get an issue where you can’t take 2 photos in a row without changing modes, then changing back?

Has anyone used the PC software and the phone app to compare the two? Can they both do everything the other does? I'd like to be able to edit exclusively on PC. I bought a Insta 360 One about a year and a half ago and that was my biggest complaint. I don't use an iPhone and that was the primary method of editing for it. The PC app has improved since the One X came out, but there are still differences. I'm looking to upgrade to the One X of this camera so I'm looking at the various comparisons at the moment.

Just got the Max last week. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet though.
The gopro max is def cool. But i love my insta360 one x so am not going to upgrade. I do have a hero 7 that i use too on my bicycle touring. What i love about 360 cameras is that you don’t have to worry about framing. You just mount you camera and can chnage the framing in post later. So cool.
After you overcaptured your video, how does the stabilisation applied? Cus i saw that when you overcapture, the image in the phone is joggling and jumping, so can you apply stabilisation after overcapture or its done automatically in the overcapture process or maybe the stabilisation allready applied by camera itself and the jumping image i saw is only visible in the phone, but the actual footage does not affected by this jumping?

I'm finding the app crashes frequently in the middle of rendering videos, mostly when the video is longer than a minute.

I use my GoPro to record for my channel.. don’t really do action shooting .. recording in my shop or outdoors in the woods .. I like the idea of the screen to be able to see myself on the max what do u think would be my best option for filming on my channel..can u attach an external microphone on the max?
What LUT are you using?
Great video. Always center the camera on the pole to hide the pole in the shot. Use the GoPro Max Telescope all the way out, it look like you were using some type of Jobi.

how did you enable horizontal leveling in 360 mode? I can only activate it in hero mode. I can't activate horizontal leveling even during reframe

roger, i think ur selfie stick has to be thinner than the width of the gopro in order for it to disappear completely. ur handle looks thicker than the gopro itself, maybe thats why it keeps showing

How is the quality on MAX in linear mode? On my Hero 6 it is much better than on MAX.

The Max looks great I always want to get videos out fishing canoeing and all the other things but fishing I’m always moving siting standing having to try to stay in frame or move the camera sucks so I don’t bather.
This seems like a game changer I don’t know how many times canoeing I see a Mose deer or what ever but as you try to get the camera going and pointed in the right detection they get spooked and you get nothing useful.
To just say go pro record and worry about the framing later as I can worry about controlling the canoe and living in the moment. That’s what I’m saying 😁

Missing 60 FPS is a big deal but that being said I just unloaded two hero 7s and a fusion for the max.

It uses both lenses to get a 270-degree view.

Always keep the GoPro straight along the poles path. The way you have it in the video is angled so the pole will show. Anything thin beneath the pole will be stiched out. Make sure your thumb screws always face to the sides of the GoPro never mount the thumb screws facing the lenses or they will show up in the video.
Roger Seng yeah I'm still trying to figure out the best way to handle hold the pole while filming. I don't like the hand looking mangled up. I was thinking of tucking a thin enough pole underneath my belt so I could have it hands free. I'd look like weirdo that's for sure. Haha

I just purchased the Max and I can't figure out how to make the handle disappear either! 🤷🏻♂️
You just need to mount your gopro straight with your gopro stick. Do not angle it like the way you're using conventional gopro hero. As you can see in this video, he angled the max a little bit which is why the stick did not disappear completely.

The software of the Insta one x is still more userfriendly and faster, I will wait for their new actioncam.
Roger Seng for instance you can select a sticky point on the horizon or a face and the vid in the editingsoftware will follow, so easy and fast to edit.

Is it me or does the quality look a million times worse than the Hero 8 at 4K? It probably looks alright on a phone but on my TV it looks about 240p!

Oh, really? I was told that overcapture system wasn't available!!! Just in the Insta 360 One X, but if it's working in the GoPro Max, it's a killer feature!
The overcapture was available on last year's Fusion. The keyframing in the mobile app is new.

Desaster for Windows Users:
I have a GoPro MAX .... if you are a Windows 10 user like me and may others, then you will expereince that the GoPro software is a Desaster. It has problems installing, throwing error numbers at you. Then you discover that 360 editing is not in the standard software but another software, that you need to buy for 0$ from the Microsoft Store. This software continually crashes is also a Desaster. When you contact GoPro support ... they just ignore you. the GoPro Max is great, but dont think you are going to produce any 360 videos with it on Windows 10!

The set up camera sucks! Out of the box charge camera light not working , same for dual charger only one green light the other stays orange forever, a miniature unreadable manual ! Just skip it online ! ...Over 4 hrs to charge , really? Wtf!! If you try to find the camera serial number you need a manual 😳, updating the camera with the app fail , customer service all you get is a forum ? Is retard , is fill with so much nonsense to set up .. be ready to spend a whole day in help forums , troubleshooting , and so forth 😫😫
Worst GoPro . Useless in lower light. Better off investing in an 8 or osmo action. Or insta360
