    950mV? Double check your settings and run actual benchmarks after setting it. You'll get performance regression.

    • @shanejossart4062
      @shanejossart4062 3 года назад +3

      Yeah thats super low. lol idk why all these Radeon people think undervolting gives you more performance, only thing its gonna do is drop your clock speeds and lower your temps. lol I leave my 6800xt at full voltage.

    • @Dongsa
      @Dongsa 3 года назад

      @@shanejossart4062 it depends, there is a threshold where you do get performance gains from the reduced temps. Each card behaves wildly differently, I'm on my third 6800xt and it benefits from sitting at 1125mV.
      So I'm quite surprised and pleased with AMDs provided tuning features in the drivers.
      Try the GPU clock, memclock, voltage tuning features, they're very accurate. That helped me find my card's limits and where to start fiddling with permanent settings.

    • @Caution40404
      @Caution40404 3 года назад +3

      Yeah. I clocked mine at 2600 MHz and 950mV was immediately crashing.

    • @Dongsa
      @Dongsa 3 года назад

      @@Caution40404 it's not so much about crashing, check your performance in actual games after undervolting. You'll see a performance reduction with higher clocks and lower voltage. Each card is different. Dramatically so. Gotta see which voltage works for yours but AMD has built in that function in the drivers. Check it out to get a good idea of your card's limits for clock speed, memory speed and undervolting.

    • @5thdimensionfpv390
      @5thdimensionfpv390 2 года назад +3

      @@Dongsa AMD has built in very conservative numbers.If u undervolt to say 950 the card will still draw 1000 - 1100. If i put mine to 2500-2600 MHz with 1020 mw at stock memory with fast timing and set my power limit to + 9 it will give me much higher scores in benchmarks. It will also give me more FPS in games.
      That is why its called tuning.
      All silicon is different,some thrive in lower voltage with higher clocks and some don't.

The settings in the video have worked for me but that doesn't mean they are ideal - everyone will end up with a best setting for their card/situation so a bit of experimentation is key. I haven't had any issues gaming at that voltage but doing something like crypto mining will eventually cause a crash so it just depends on your use.

      Paul, I've got an XFX 6800XT as well that seems to always goes to black screen on me in Call of Duty MW. I'm wondering if it's more driver or game related than card related, as it doesn't crash on me running benchmarks in Heaven and TimeSpy. Was fairly stable yesterday running no OC, then I saw this vid, saw your comment above, changed my clocks to where yours are at, and I crashed after about 45 minutes. There's almost zero good info on what could be causing this problem, so any time I see someone with an XFX 6800XT that's played with it a bit, I'm always interested. Thanks for the post.

    Very helpful video, helped validate some of the results I was seeing from my oc. Mine is a Pulse card so the cooling is not quite as robust as the higher binned models and my case isn't the best air flow (did what I could with a solid front panel), so it lined up perfectly that I did slightly worse in reasonable ocs. Sitting at Fast timings 2050 for example my vram was probably slightly hotter than yours in this video, it took a while to notice but there was color artifacts on very select few textures that I missed until about 30 minutes into playing Monster Hunter World w/ High res textures. I tuned down to 2030 just to be safe and saw no more issues on the same part that showed the artifact, was satisfied with that and moved on. Now I see I could probably push core clock a little higher and voltage lower.

    With such a powerful GPU, I’d only recommend undervolting it. Reducing the power draw and heat while maintaining stock clocks or slightly above makes more sense than overclocking. In your case you’re drawing a lot more power while overclocking for not a lot more FPS. The gaming experience is already very good, just undervolt the GPU and use Radeon Chill in your preferred gaming titles so you can enjoy using this card.

      Voltage is going to be different for every card/system so it's not surprising that your card needs 1000mv to work - just adjust until stable. Also, 'real world' gaming situations are also different than torture tests such as FurMark that could actually cause crashes. In my experience, torture tests put more strain on the card but don't actually allow it to reach the correct boost clocks so they aren't super helpful for anything other than temperature testing IMO. Without having the card myself, I would say that you should just start at default clocks and work your way up starting with core clock and then mem clock. Then, see if you can undervolt a little from there. Or, you could try a small undervolt (50mv) right at the beginning to see if it helps your overclock due to less power usage.

    Hey Geek, i notice you reply alot of these comments.. im subbing!
    I have question myself, i just got myself a red devil 6900xt with i9-9900k (stock), 850w gold psu, and 16 gb ram 2666mhz xmp to 3000.
    My question is, when im playing BFV in 1080p resolution, why am i only getting 60-70% gpu usage, which caused stuttering & low fps (somewhere 120-130 with lag)? This result even worse than my old 1080.
    Why cant i get 99% usage on my gpu? And do you know whats the cause of this? I even tried the resolution scale option ingame to 200% to use more of my gpu but results are still! Do you think any bottlenecks or whats going on?
    Its even happeninng on other games (rust) which only utilize 70-90% fluctuates.
    I would hope my gpu usage can stay at 99% all times when im gsming to gain most of the performances.
    Really appreciate if you could answer this. Thank u!!!

    • @heygeek3816
      @heygeek3816  3 года назад +6

      I think the issue here is the 1080p resolution. The 6900xt is so overkill for that resolution for any game that I don't think you'll ever be able to get to 100% utilization. At that point, your CPU is actually the bottleneck. You could try to overclock your 9900k but I think your system is begging for 1440p gaming.

    Hey i have been following your tutorial with good results! One question....do you notice increased coil whine noise in certain games as you increase the core clock? I notice this especially in AC Valhalla but is present in other games... I also notice that at about 2400 GPU overclock or less the coil whine becomes almost inaudible but the loudness of it seems proportionate to how much clock speed you are at at as well as the core voltage set...Have you experienced any of this? Thanks!

    • @heygeek3816
      @heygeek3816  3 года назад +1

      Personally, I haven't noticed any coil whine but I also run the fan at 50% or more and use headphones. It's not surprising that the coil whine would increase with clock/voltage but there really isn't anything bad about it other than the annoyance. AFAIK, there isn't really a way to reduce coil whine since it is vibrations on the card components itself making the noise.

      The only thing that would ever degrade a GPU faster than stock is if it is running at high temps for long periods of time. If your gpu temp stays around 60-70 and your junction stays under 90 I don't think you will ever have issues. We undervolt the card as well with these settings which also helps keep the card healthy.

    • @asdf_asdf948
      @asdf_asdf948 Год назад

      Tends to be unstable. Rdna2 doesn't scale great with clocks alone, it scales better with vram tuning, power limit, and undervolting, and cooling. If you have a water block you could maybe crank up the frequency (but an average card won't go past 2600 or so, maybe with silicon lottery you could go 27-2800)

    • @heygeek3816
      @heygeek3816  3 года назад

      AMD's software doesn't give you a way to do this unless you set up performance profiles for individual games which it will auto-load when you run the game. There are other options out there, however, like MSI Afterburner that have an option to 'run at startup' so that you don't have to mess with it every time.

    Hey Geek thank you for the video ! but i do have a question ! pls if i may... how will this work for sapphire nitro+ cards? who has 350w power consume (way more power than normal)
    and have also higher base clock (my stock clock is 2480) how does it effect me and overclock? what settings would i maybe need to change ? thank you !

    • @heygeek3816
      @heygeek3816  3 года назад

      The process will essentially be the same but you'll need to pay extra attention to your PSU to make sure it is big enough to handle the power. Otherwise, you might find that you have less overclocking headroom simply because the card is essentially shipped overclocked. Play with your settings, keep your temperatures down, and try to undervolt a bit if you can!

      @@heygeek3816 hey thank you for replay, i got 850 psu so it should be fine ! , however im more concerned whatever i can damage my card or not.. becuase it has more power consume than ref card , while ref cards comes at 300 power consume the nitro + comes at 350 which is big different in power !, when i didnt reduce the volt infact.. when i changed nothing at all other than clock i was able to keep 2749 clock stable.. at 1150 volt without enabling power limit.. and i did see pretty decent FPS increase.. however my junction ran at around 10c hotter even tho it had same volt .. overall my gpu stays cold at all time i got 63c on gpu but at 2749 clock my junction reached 93-94c in hard gaming with pushed my gpu.. when i tried to lower the volt i had to lower the clock and for example at 950volt i couldnt run 2650 igot error i had to change to over 1000 for itto remain stable i put it at 1050 volt down from 1150 and set clock to 2650 and it ran smooth with no errors with power limit to 15% however it did make junction and gpu run abit hotter and overall consumed more power than stock.. however my power consume was still around 290-300 and i didnt see 350w consume . however the fps boost i got from 2650 clock at 1050 volt was small there was huge leap from 2749 to 2650 however from 2480(stock) to 2650 i barely saw any noticeable FPS increase i did see 3dmark score increased decently but actual FPS like 3% while 2749 was more like 10% ... i tried to search for videos that shows nitro+ videos but i couldnt find..
      honestly im very new to overclocking and i dont want to damage my card by doing stuff i got no clue at.. i wonder if the 3% or so from 2650 clock really worth changing it from stock.. since at stock i get 2480 and it seem to run colder . or maybe there should be more ways or different approach to overclocking nito taking use of its higher power? . thank you !

      You are talking about a few percent.. And with a card like that your not going to get much more out of it to where you feel it.. Your power drawl may not even be 350 watts.. Have you checked it?? That's just what's listed on the card to scare you into buying a new PSU but you may go up to like 370 watts with that overclock he listed.. Never seen anyone pull more than 400 watts with a 6900XT and that was on LN.. But I could be wrong.. I have an XFX 6800XT and the experience is the same whether Stock or Overclocked.. What's different is my FPS goes up a little depending on the game too.. You may see a Nice 10% increase or just a 2% increase.. I overclock anyway just cause why not..

    • @heygeek3816
      @heygeek3816  3 года назад +2

      While max power overclocks that increase voltage and heat on a GPU will almost certainly shorten the lifespan of a card I would argue that undervolting the card and reducing heat will have no negative impact on the GPU and might even help lengthen its lifespan.
