I love the French Horn, played it as a kid in school and was instantly attracted to the tone and versatility of the instrument. but back in the day it was unthought of to consider it a lead instrument let alone a Jazz lead instrument. This is good stuff. Makes me want to buy one and "relearn" how to play.
The threshold to play jazz french horn is just so much higher than other brass instruments due to where the harmonics sit. Even when I see th best horn players trying it, they play transcriptions of solos. Because if you think the wrong note or use a slightly wrong fingering with horn you crack, not very consistent with improvisation.
