We talk through the twits and turns of the route, Henry's nutrition strategy, his bike set up and what he carried.

Amazing work Henry. The two Le Col guys chopped my front wheel on Newlands, then chopped a rider further up clipping a wheel causing him to topple. Not cool.
I hope you got it on video?
No they didn't
What a level headed young man and an excellent post race discussion. Thanks Mapdec
agreed as below, very down to earth and possibly not realised the enormity of achievement :-) well done and good to see someone on an 'old bike'
You did well PW, I wouldn't have finished this year for sure. Well done.
Paul’s blow by blow account of the route brought back all the pain of when I did it about ten years ago and vowed never again!
Well done Henry! An excellent time and great interview. It was a pleasure riding and chatting with you out in Spain in February, when we were going in the same direction. I recall you mentioning that you were training for a sub 6 at FW, and you smashed it.
Belting good job. Great watch. Sky is the limit for that chap. Puts my 10hr fred into perspective. Well done.
What a lovely humble lad! Unbelievable effort!
Well done Henry!
That's a mighty impressive time Henry, well done. To anyone unfamiliar, this is superhuman level performance, so strong at 20ish... we'd probably like to think we were that fast at that age but err, no we weren't....
Truth. 🫡
Well done Henry! Huge ride. Almost 20mph on that route is bonkers! Us mere mortals are in awe!
Wow! I did this years ago on a kona honky tonk with triple chainset and it took me 8 hours 50 minutes 😂.. Top work mate. It's chaos that ride trying to keep a good cadence
That’s amazing! Well done fella! And humble too, a total class young man!
What a fantastic result💪💪
Well done. Look forward to seeing you in future events👍👍
BTW what a serious aero position - lots of stretching/strengthening needed to stay that low!
Cheers Henry! Very well done. All the best.
Awesome interview, What a Guy!!!! That’s amazing, Well Done 👍 🥇🚴🏼♂️💨
Yes Henry! Stoked for you!
Henry. Massive effort. Congrats. You mentioned not being comfortable in your saddle and I noticed your saddle is leaning forward. Again, amazing effort !!!
Really inspiring!
Brilliant video and very interesting. Amazing effort, and well done Henry. Would love to know how much you weigh? Still can’t make my mind up on my own tyre pressure...
Impressed, simply very impressed by a young guy, who delivers enviable and persistent performance, but still is very humble. I wish him he will be able to repeat his achievements. Henry, just go on this way, persistent and step by step.
Well done. A great achievement.
Awesome effort Henry nice work 👍 very inspiring young man with your obvious dedication the sky is the limit 👍
Cracking effort Henry what a great achievement. I took part in this years and was one of the slowest on the day but would like to think one of the heaviest at 115kg and 46 yr old and carried way to much kit and food in comparison to Henry. Lessons learned and hopefully will be a lot quicker next year.
Great to see specialized on the channel 🙂
Love hearing and seeing what’s gone into the preparation of the Fred whitton, fair play to the fella👊 yet can’t help but feel a little pissed of, that I have failed to get into the the Fred on 3 occasions! Yet this guy has done 3 times, go figure. Oh I did make the reserve list number 276😂😂😂 so I should get in next year, that’s if I move to Lake District 👍🏻
Henry is a deserving young man, hoping he gets everything out of life he wants.
We will pass this gift directly to him. Thank you.
Brilliant ride ,wow, very down to earth person, very best of luck with future endeavours 👍
👌👌excellent interview, great new young talent … hope he does well . Very humble …
Brilliant effort, must have flown round. Going by start times you must have passed me somewhere round Braithwaite/the bottom of Whinlatter, no doubt blinked and missed you. Good luck with the Nationals
Echoing the other sentiments- extremely humble lad and an inspiration to a rider twice his age!
RESPECT Henry a truly inspiring effort!
Very Impressive performance. nice humble young man. Well done Henry.
Congrats on the result!
Well done Henry 👍
love that bike
A good effort!
Indeed
Very humbling young man
Henry what an absolutely monster performance!!!. Many congratulations you have now been upgraded to mk1 A grade racing snake status!!.
Very talented young man.
What a great time, I rode for the first time and got 8.10 moving but 8.30 total, I rode a bit to conservatively as I hadn’t done it before, I think I could manage a sub 8 without some of the other traffic delays also. The rode to Keswick was interesting, I got stuck behind other cars but played it safe, there were a few fast riders overtaking cars with cars coming the other way, which is disappointing and could have caused a serious accident, I think it’s important to note although people want a good time, it’s not a closed road race
Incredible effort and great interview! I also took part but only managed sub 8!
Well done Henry 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Outstanding fella. I couldn’t get a ticket so I did it on Saturday 11th solo. I have no idea how you kept that pace in that heat.
That’s seriously rapid. I’ve done it a few times now and never got below 7.15, and that’s after a *lot* of training. Ok, I’m twice that lad’s age, but I’m not going to kid myself; I wouldn’t have got within an hour of Henry at his age. That’s top work.
It's great to see a young, talented, hardworking lad do well on home territory. Congratulations, Henry! 👏
(I hope the replacement tyre was FOC 😉).
Oustanding lad.
Henry .. amazing bruv! Amount of money people spend on the kit to do Fred. Mate you really humble and super bloke. All the best wishes. Guys like you could, with that attitude, go all the way to the top of cycling. Hope you keep going and get some good contracts.
🙏
Massive congrats to Henry!
Awesome well done Henry, fantastic ride and great to get some insights.
Paul it would be good to know what you might carry as spares/tools in this type of ride and on some of the longer gravel endurance stuff 😉
Great idea Si.
I remember what must have been his group going past us between Keswick and honister. Great pace. Not safe re: the cars
What an excellent ride. Proper preparation show what can be achieved. Many wing it especially with nutrition but Henry really did nail it. Also what make is the saddle bag?
Inspiring as looks like ordinary youngster and seems to have been very sensible seemingly well supported by Mapdec with preparation.
Under 6 hours some effort that, love his bike too 😊
Heck ya dude
Well done Henry, you've got a great team at Mapdec Paul. Was Henry running tubes or tubeless?
Tubeless.
That is an unreal time, I've done it twice.............rather slower !
Yikes! 💪💪💪
I imagine the Fred Whitton would suck. We have a fun ride with a made up history in Colorado Springs called the 719 (takes place the weekend closest to july, the 7th month the 19th) that is 2801 meters of climbing in 71.9 miles. The full ride is 5 laps of a course. I managed two.
The Fred Whitton is great! I've done it 5 times, 2015, 16, 17, 18 and 2022.
I would just like to know what is ike to ride the hardknott pass without the rain !
Still makes your lungs bleed.
Pro teams must be interested.
Incredible. Give the lad a payrise 😊
he only just had one 😂
What a canny lad.
David Arthur = 7 hours 15? Not bad.
If he needs a training buddy i'm washing my hair that day
😂
Who’s the bcw lad @ 41 secs
💪
Well done Henry 👍
On a proper tarmac! With its correct geo and correct aero cut out!
SL7, sl8 take note…as coined on this channel…detuned
SL5 s works was the last proper tarmac. IYKYK
@@mrredpilledout550 yep the SL5 is awesome.
