I think you fail to understand that a lot of these are just the actual iron sights irl. Sure, you can still say it sucks, but being like “Why did they do this?” and “There’s no reason for all this stuff to be on it!” is dumb. They’re being accurate to how the weapon is irl, and irl, that stuff is there, and there is a reason for it.

That type 11 in vanguard is wild. You had to literally plan to approach corners that were right hand turns because you couldn’t see when rounding a left hand corners. And an optic didn’t fix it. It just felt so wrong

Arming millions of men with different weapons that use the same ammo or different ammo proved to be a horrible problem that many countries tried to solve. The Japanese answer was the squad support weapon would use clips from their main battle rifle the Type 99 Arisaka bolt action rifle. You open the hatch on the left and you feed 6×5 round clips for a full magazine of 30. The hatch pushes down thanks to gravity and the bullets get into the chamber. Of course the weapon would jam a lot, dirt and mud would get into the open hatch. Fighting in the South Pacific was not a good place to use it. Still an unique historical weapon.
the flap on the type 11 is to apply pressure to the stripper clips in the casing top to stop them from falling out (yes stripper clips, as more stripper clips can be inserted to reload without replacing the mag/casing, look at the BFV reload for accurate depiction)

The G36C from MW3 has great iron sights. They're wide open with a huge field of view. I never ran a dot on that thing. I also feel like a lot of these are only bad because the god-awful 100% opaque hitmarker visuals work together with the iron sight AND muzzle flash to create just a wombo combo of zero-visibility gameplay.

Shotgun iron sights are like that irl. MTRX is windage and elevation adjustment it seems. Type 11, Bren and Type 99 are all realistic for the iron sights of the time
5:10 What you're seeing is called elevation marks. It helps the gunner adjust his aim based on the range to account for bullet drop (much like a sniper scope). Sometimes infantry rifles came with similar marks so soldiers could shoot at enemy aircraft in WW2. I think this arisaka had them. 7:43 Same reason as above. It's called a windage/elevation knob. Turning it adjusts the sights to account for wind and/or range so that your iron sights are "zeroed in" meaning you hit what you're aiming at without having to lead your shots. If you didn't notice, there's a second knob on the right side of the weapon too.
I would've said the mg4 or the deagle from mw2 2009 because those sights are just straight up misaligned, but if you use tac knife with the deagle it fixes the iron sights for some reason
This concept is funny, because irons are really tight and tiny irl. That Type 11 lmg sights are even worse in person. The flap at the top was the spoon that helped feed strips down then into the weapon.
Definitely an honorable mention to the pytaek from advanced warfare. Basically had like a random screen around the actual sights, and they were especially bad on last gen where things wouldn’t load in properly sometimes so it would just be a blotch of pixels lol
good news: the bren-like guns with mag on the top, hence having ironsight on the side, is ditched in real life, because how bad it will block your sight. Bad news: the G36, M14 type of iron sight is still being popular, because irl you'll be shooting with both eyes open, so you'll not be annoyed that much by the ring. in fact, the ring in cod games is a lot thinner than in real life for guns like M1 garand and M16.
It's crazy that the BO1 Uzi is still the consensus pick for worst Irons in all of COD. I remember Raging Amish ranting about said gun back in the day, and with good reason.
The Vanguard Type 11, WaW Type 99, Bren, and WWII Stinger iron sights give me cancer. Although one I want to mention that probably flies under the radar, the Welling, was a default starting pistol for bo4 zombies before you unlocked anything. Your complaint about the Stinger, but tiny pistol version. It was atrocious.
With the type 11, it should be noted that the Japanese were left-handed for the most part (If I recall correctly), and that flap is to help keep the ammunition cause it uses 5 round stripper Clips in a 25 round box

Like the iron sights aren't the problem, the problem is CoD fails to take into account perspectives. Special Forces and Military operators are trained to keep both of their eyes open even during aiming down sights and thus the borders get blurred, no matter on a red dot, holo or irons.
i dont know if this counts but for some reason the m4 iron sights in mw2022 made the visual recoil so bad your camera tilted to the side making the gun near unusable
ZRG 20mm from BOCW was probably the worst in my opinion, its a super slow but strong sniper but the iron sight was so bad that the one Shot you could make was basically Impossible to hit
The freaking browning m1919 had some of the cleanest sights in the game and hit like a fricken truck and the m60 and browning m1919 used whats called a ladder sight the reasoning behind this was so you could adjust based on range if you were firing from a fixed position and your target was 300 kilometers away you would raise the bar to the 3 line to adjust for drop off
For the Type 11 its an actual gun and the Japanese had some wonky firearms. The very few props ill give to Vanguard is that they brought weapons from the Pacific Theater. Most WW2 games its just American and Nazi weapons.

Also most of the revolvers in the series, they have clean sights but as soon as you fire, the gun kicks up and the sights disappear until it settles again so it’s impossible to hit anyone past a few meters unless you shoot very slow or they stand still. Also the 48 dredge. The G11 low power scope, it’s an attachment but technically it’s supposed to be unremovable on the real gun, it’s a red dot sight that blocks half the screen like a sniper scope and shakes incessantly and can’t even be settled.
Like 80% of the "wtf is all this on the side" is just how the real iron sights look i think you are forgetting that these are based on real guns

W@W Springfield had a misaligned, barely visible front post sight. The MW2 MG4 had a highly obstructive rear sight and was _also_ misaligned.
The type 11 in MW3 infection was a beast with its 1 burst capability

The ICR-1 (BO3), ICR-7 (BO4), and Type-2 (IW) iron sights were pretty terrible that I had to use either a red dot or ELO sight on them
