Upstage is a bad word to use since Idina was actually encouraging it and only sang one line.
The second girl is like "Maybe I shouldn't have forced my way on stage..."
Lol she was so bad
I notice that people that post this kind of video post them about themselves and act like they are the best things ever 🙄 Why are they dressed like high school aged hookers?
Ok so...for all you naysayers: this was completely random, she played Joanne in a college production of rent and...that happens to be me. Best night of my life. Idina was amazing.
Idina wasn't upstaged, she let the girls take over, she had fun with it. But that girl can sing!
She wailed. So great. And a real talent like Idina, doesn't flinch at sharing applause or handing the mic to someone just dreaming to be up there with her. VERY cool moment. Thanks for the video.
I think because she played Maureen in Rent and sang that song many times, she likes to hear how her fans sing it
Obviously she wasn't better than Idina ... But at that moment she totally upstaged her. Perfect entry, excellent characterisation, great voice (even if a little uncontrolled towards the end of her verse). No one, including Idina, would have been expecting that. At that moment, no one cared that it was Idina's concert; she had been upstaged.
I couldn't agree more.
I wish we could have seen Idina's face when the girl started singing. I'm sure it was priceless.
Fighting over the mic. Classy. The first girl tried to yank it out of the other girl's hand...the second girl, wouldn't let it go...sheesh...
I would like to see a video of Idina Menzel getting upstaged by Adele Dazeem
SRO3 YES! 😂
The second girl made me cry of laughing
Ok she did great but... SHE DID NOT UPSTAGE IDINA MENZEL!
She jumped the gun a bit on the lyrics. It sounded like she was off key with the music in the back. She sang good, she had power, but I am just bothered by how she concentrated on showing off than sounding on key with the music. She could also had been nervous which can do it.
luckystarharehare15 Well, as an aspiring singer myself, I think the showing off part kinda gets you into it. I mean, if I was singing on stage with Idina-Frickin'-Menzel, I'd be terrified! Wouldn't you?
tbh I'm very shy about my own singing, my own harshest critic to the point that makes Simon Cowell look angelic. If you focus on perfecting a song too much, you worry too much about screwing up. However, if you try to just get into it and let the music just take you there and relish the feelings it gives you, it's not as hard.
No, she didn't upstage her, and no, her singing wasn't perfect, and yeah, it was a little annoying how cocky she was being, but go her! I'd be shocked if anyone here (Especially me! >.< ) had the balls to do this at all!
You are correct, showing off does get you in sometimes, but from what I seen being involved with actors, singers and the like, most of the time this could be a double edged sword. Maybe it is because I am just not obnoxious like a lot of people, and for that I missed many opportunities. I have met many people, but when it comes down to it most of the time the person with the talent doesn't make it because they want to get into the field through honesty.
The double edge comes in when you are on top of the world, but there is no one there to sit on top with you. This whole thing makes me wish I was still living near new york for auditions, but the area is not kind to a starving artist.
She still did a great job. I am a sucker for others who can sing good. Everyone has something unique about there voice, even the imperfections are always interesting to me. I am hoping someone told her she was bit off. Without being told she wont get better. My boyfriend use to jump the gun when singing, it is definitely a nervous thing.
luckystarharehare15 Ah, I actually feel the same as you. I was just trying to think of her reasoning. ^-^
luckystarharehare15 Same. Have missed out on roles because I refuse to ass kiss, show off and so on.
It's not in me to do that. I prefer to get roles based on my actual TALENT and not put on an act to get them.
seriously everyone grow the heck up. all of you are talking about how the third girl should have just left; why arent you applauding her? she tried her best, and its not like this was a staged thing. She got up and did a last minute song with no notice or warming up or preparation. That takes a lot of guts! Sure maybe she wasnt the best singer, but she saw a once in a lifetime oppurtunity and took it.
+Musicals&Typewriters Exactly! She was clearly someone who loves to sing and like so many, probably shouldn't. But that's far from the point. She got to be on stage with Idina and very few members of the public can say they've done that and have video proof. Once in a lifetime and now she has that memory for a lifetime.
So now we know who films all the UFO, Bigfoot and Nessie exclusives.
ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY UPSTAGE IDINA MENZEL
IKR!!
Yeah, well, I like Idina.... but folks, I have to admit that I've seen Wicked more than 20 times... including with Miss Idina. But my favorite Elphaba is not Idina; it's Dee Roscioli. And if you've seen Dee, you'll know what I mean. She has a stronger, cleaner, and -- dare I say it -- better voice. And far less ... nasal intonation. Sorry, but that's how I heard it.
Have you heard Jessica Vosk??????
T bt
*Adele Dazeem xD
And here I thought hyperbolic clickbait titles were something only online news sites did.
Just to clear a few things up, I did NOT say I "upstaged" Idina. The reporter from the Minneapolis Star Tribune said there was a momentary upstaging. Second, Idina never tried yanking or taking the mic away from me or the other young lady. Although the video is fuzzy, you can see her laughing and enjoying the moment. Third, I am not comparing myself to her in any way. She is a legend, I am just an up and coming performer. No comparison. Thank you to everyone with compliments. If you didn't like it...that's ok too.
You are a born performer, girl. You're clearly at home up there. Fantasies performance. I'm a Rent fan from the first Broadway run. And, you rocked that stage. If you're still singing, I'd love to collaborate sometime.
You should be on Broadway girl
Theres always room onstage for talent. You were awesome and I'm sure Idina is used to being around amazing singers. ❤
I hope you continue to sing...you do an amazing job doing it!
You are the bomb !!!!! By the way Delgado is my son's middle name
Was the other girl even supposed to come up!?
I wish she would've stayed in her seat, the first was amazing!
I agree
Ruthless Gaming I mean, way to ruin someone's moment, you know?
I agree
that girl has a great voice. Idiana was clearly impressed.
=)
They're so brave and talented and look completely relaxed and at home on the stage. Bright futures are in store for those ladies.
Idina was very gracious and obviously enjoyed the girls very entertaining performance.
I think the proper heading for this video should have been something more like this...: Idina Menzel invites woman from audience to sing. Woman surprises everyone with her talent and charisma.
Idina handled that like a true star!
I bet Idina got a huge kick out of that! What a fun surprise to have an audience member rock it so well.
Especially knowing that particular part of the song, complete with all the appropriate affectations! It was simply awe inspiring!
@@finnsmom1673 the girl in the video commented, apparently she had played the role in a college production so she knew the part
she was great but she didn't upstage Idina thats for sure!
Even though she did fantastic, you can never upstage Idina!
3 people standing up is a reeeeal standing ovation. Haha
That was really cool of Idina to let them randomly come on stage- a lot of other celebs would of called security or something! She was really good though!
Ellie Dolan I think she asked for people from
The audience
One does not simply upstage Idina Menzel
EXACTLY!!
They are good. But indina completely kept control evend it out and let these girls on her stage.. Don't think that can be upstaged.. And that's before her singing
Idina is like "give me the mic!"
ooh that first girl was amazing!!!
That was nice of Idina Menzel. The girl has a great voice! She knew the song cold! What a cool perfomance and a nice memory for them!
What a fantasy come true for Girl #1! (Sorry Girl #2, you have guts, but didn't nail it.) How often is a civilian pulled out of an audience like that? What were the chances? And then to have it recorded and put on RUclips as well!! She probably played the part in a high school or college production... or (like me) spent hours learning every nuance singing it over and over again into a mirror with a hair brush for a microphone and dreaming of performing it in front of thousands of people. Dreams can come true. Good for her!!!!
Thank you for your kind words Jana. I went to the show never dreaming that I would literally get to sing WITH her. Two strangers took this video and then found me on FB. My good friend Nathan posted this for me. I am still astounded that it has this many views. I know I didn't upstage her (obviously). But....I was proud to rock it out with her. She was so sweet and when I was done she said...."Now get off my stage". I loved it.
***** you are fantastic! You really did a good job.
Thank you so much Diosdado. Just singing on the same stage right next to her was an amazing dream come true.
I actually did play Joanne in a college performance of Rent.
I feel kind of bad for the tall girl. She was outclassed all the way.
1. no one could ever upstage Idina.
2. the first girl damnnnn. work.
The way she sings with the handbag 😂😂
Like an angry mom 😂😂😂😂
She's a natural Joanne omfg
First girl is amazing!
Send her to Broadway now!
Thank you
That first girl singing Jo Anne's verse did really well. The quality of the video isn't the great so it's tough to say exactly how "pitchy" vs. "in-tune" she was. Whatever the case, she sang out, sang well, and sold it with attitude. She did something RIGHT obviously, as Ms. Menzel was clearly impressed and the audience's reaction shows that she performed well, too. If a Tony Award winning Broadway singer-actor is impressed with her performance, I think we can safely say that she did well. If the professionals and the audience supports the performer, that's what is most important. It's obvious she loves singing, loves performing, and took a lot of time to learn that song, and it shows.
Thank you so very much.
Apparently, people think being loud with tons of aggressive energy means you are a good singer. Because voice control, dynamics, musicality, and listening dont matter...hahaha
ikr
Devin i agree that belting 24/7 isn't a good way to sing, but the part of the song she was singing - she needed to be loud and aggressive. the song is about two girls screaming at each other basically, especially joanne's part because it's at the climax of the song
She did not UPSTAGE Indina. Indina GAVE her the stage as a gift for her skill and bravery. She was good, very good actually, but I still prefer Indina's sound. I feel like Indina has a more controlled sound, while this girl was very loud. Though the song is supposed to be sung fairly loudly, she still didn't seem to showcase her control.
Idina***
***** i don't ususally agree to such comment.... but i have to admit..... she really wasn't all that good...... the first one was good though
+Olivia Isme Of course, it's to be expected, Idina is a professional and that girl is an amatuer! How can you compare???
+Olivia Isme Ooooo yes she did, baby!
+Chloe Tan That's got nothing to do with it: I also think Idina got seriously upstaged! The girl had raw power, energy, charisma, the perfect attitude and true singing talents. Nothing wrong with amateurs if you ask me: it comes from the word Amour, did you know that? Amour can bring you far in life....
love how idina had to step in and handle the mic for them haha
she's actually GLOWING
that was awesome!! haha i love it. im pretty sure idina didnt take offense, shes a broadway actress! she hogs the mic all the time ;) she seemed to get a kick out of it
Whoa! That first girl who sang has style!
Fangirling so hard right now, she got to sing with Idina, so lucky! 😊😊😊😊 That was sooo awesome!! the girl in the black dress was amazing!
The one thing I love about Minnesota is it draws so much talent from everywhere. Just amazing.
the first girl did her thing
NOONE CAN UPSTAGE IDINA!!!! NEVER!!!!
Some comments are so rude! This is a once in a life time moment. They are just having fun. You guys are jealous
I know right
Thanks Erin. I couldn't agree more.
Upstage is a strong word.
Idina is so sweet! 💕💕
She turned it OUT!!!
How did she upstage Idina if that's not even Idina's verse....
Baha.. that is incredible. Such sass
If I was the other girl...hahaha all yours lady, I'm gone... SHE ROCKED!
Hardly upstaged. She offered them a chance and in good sportsmanship she gave them the go and the stage for a bit of fun.
Idina: Do you challenge me?
Normal peoples reaction: Totally!!
My reaction: WTF are you serious? No way! I can never do better than you!
Magic! What a moment,,, for them both!
Oh my goodness that was the sweetest thing!!! Idina is such a Gorgeous lady and what a voice! Apparently super sweet too! That young lady has a pretty incredible voice herself! :)
the first girl was amazing, she could sing
Just goes to show; there are plenty of women with great voices out there. Got to be in the right place, at the right time, to hook up with a songwriter in order to make it a career, or you'll forever be singing in your shower.
She's not being upstaged, she's giving them the limelight. The first woman isn't really that good. She's screeching.
Actually she is pretty good, she's not screeching it's just bad quality recording.
That's class. Letting other people shine doesn't take away from you.
I can't decide to like or dislike. The first girl was actually really decent. The second was really off-key and kind of ruined it.
elwynbrooks “really decent” the first girl was so good
She's in enchanted and frozen. She sing let it go which I like and seems very nice.
She was awesome
The spotlight upstaged EVERYBODY.
Great performance. Idina aint got nothing to worry about she's chill.
I love that she was such a good sport about this too.
both girls were good singers, the only thing that made the first girl better was her stage presnence, and how she put a litttle life into you! ;)
I can appreciate the girl's voice, she can wail, but upstaged Idina? No no no. It takes more presence to make a statement without flailing about like that, and one should NEVER rip a microphone out of the performer's hand that invited you to share her spotlight. EVER.
I watch the "lovely and talented" Mrs. Waters do something similar (without invitation) at a kareoke bar after a couple of beers. Just struted up and snatched the mic from her. Almost got me into a fist fight over that one. In her defence, the girl she took it from was aweful.
Woah hi Rachel. Suddenly I see why RUclips requires a Google+ account to reply to videos. This is actually really really cool.
hahaha she did the "lalalalLeave me!" I saw Eden do haha
The girl on the left sings good but I don't think she's upstaging Idina, she's just enjoying being there... and Idina seems surprised but enjoying as well
Puffmais .
This is fantastic.
NO ONE upstages Menzel and no one ever will.
The girl is really good. I don't think you can say she upstaged Idina, she sang Joannes part perfectly. If anything I think Idina was very into watching her. She was getting into it.
Lol, she was.
wow can I open my eyes now!
Upstage? Idina wasn't even the one singing...
Who is Idina Menzel...?
That looks like Adell Dazeem.
You know "let it go" yeah thats elsa
I see what you did there
Kathencounters WOOSH!
Ha ha, hilarious. =)
+James Tayloe Classic! LOL!
Those girls have some balls. It's like Sophia Grace & Rosie all grown up. Hehe
She was a good singer. Idina is a huge voice.
Second girl can go away. First girl rocked. I wish they both weren't wearing super, short, ugly dresses.
I agree - the dresses took attention away from their singing. The girl on the left was quite good.
Lorrie Prothero, Scout Ann, what a woman is wearing should not affect your judgement of her.
visuals always affect judgement, it's human nature. you're on stage for a reason, for people to see you, not just hear you. We all should take that into consideration.
Jojo Qi It should when people are looking at her cooch. Dressing to be on stage is different than dressing to hop around a a club.
Anyway, it was the second girl whose dress was too short and she wasn't really the star...it's admirable that she had the courage to go up there. The first girl nailed it though!
Alexandria Virginia sounds sexiest and also sounds like you are jealous
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS
Although the first girl was not perfect, what made her stand out was her command of the stage. What a great stage presence! The other girl should have stayed home or at least stayed in her seat...
Thank you.
I WAS THERE
THAT WAS AWESOME
she needs to work it, that could be her big breakthrough
Wow, that girl is brave! Both those girls are soooo brave!
that was amazing !!
Damn... Girl worked that dress and that purse then she wowed em with that voice!! Fantastic!
Well done. Wow. You nailed it.
Hell Yeah. She killed it
The girl in the pink dress... Ouch...
Now she has talent
Her voice is good but not as rich/good as Idina's so you can't call it 'upstaging'...
And plus it was extremely rude and disrespectful snatching the microphone from a performer's hand.
wow loved that didnt think that could happen to idina lol she is the truth in this vocal game
It wasn't staged. I was at that concert and I know that girl. She actually played Joanne in her high school's production of Rent and that's why she wanted to sing the song.
OMYGOD I love it
=)
I don't understand how people keep wanting to turn stuff like this into some cutthroat competition. It isn't the show Nashville, or A Star Is Born, or whatever. The majority of performers in The Arts ( Or writing, or film, etc. ) are happy to see others do well.
Wow!mthe girl in the blue and red dress is really good!!!
Thank you
Diva Delgado you KILLED IT! That other girl should have had the good sense to go back to her seat! :-)
