The Outer Worlds Pacifist on Supernova Speedrun in under 20 minutes

- I've always been interested in challenge runs, so I decided to make a challenge to beat this game Pacifist on Supernova without shooting a single bullet in a speedrun setting.
With my knowledge from routing the Any% speedrun this is what I came up with, it's not perfect but it'll do. If you end up following this video this should also net you the Supernova achievement / trophy fairly quickly. You can even shoot the enemies in Geothermal too, unless you want the extra challenge.
Since this is just a challenge run I left my timer on real time instead of using the load remover.

Here’s a walkthrough of this video’s important points. This is mostly for PS4 trophy hunters, (like me), that just want to pop the supernova and hard trophies.
Start: -1 on strength, dex and int. Max on percep, charm, temp. Tag Dialog and Stealth. Medical +1 perk
1:25 Make sure you grab this stuff. Especially the drink.
1:43 going down the right side gets you shot less and saves meds.
2:22 take the faster sprint perk.
3:38 agree to Reed’s quest. Do not take Parvarti.
3:56 take that drink off the reception desk.
4:40 fast sprint jump off this rock to clear the fence. Watch his line through the plant to engage all 3 switches as he runs past.
5:37 leave and re-enter to reset enemy agro. Computers can’t be used while enemies are agro’d.
5:51 this drone is annoying. You might have to stealth past it and close a door to keep it from seeing you.
5:57 send power to adelaid, not edgewater.
6:13 fast sprint jump to clear the fence.
6:54 12 points into dialog, 8 points remaining
7:05 use intimidate on Reed.
7:26 sleep 6 hours to make yourself thirsty.
8:15 raise stealth skills to 40 and drink a sugary drink for +1 body so you can pick the safe open in 1 second. (can wait to drink this until you pick up the 3 maglock picks).
8:42 pick the back corner on the safe and take the seal.
8:58 say you’ll turn in Phineas. Udom wants his seal for the paperwork. Give it to him. He gives you a Byzantium navkey so you can go tell Sophia where Phineas is.
9:58 pick the secretary’s pocket briefly so he chases you. Lead him to the unpickable door. If he gets close to the door, it automatically opens.
10:07 print a security card. Watch the movie.
11:00 pickpocket a shroud disguise, and anything else.
11:34 follow the yellow line, jump the rail. The amount of chemicals you take doesn’t matter, but I did only some and had no issues.
12:53 just agree with Phineas. Don’t do anything for Sophia.
13:43 follow his line exactly. You have just enough shroud to make it.
14:01 pick up the door key from the table next to the computer. You can grab it on the way in, too.
14:30 you can skip the Hope into the sun here if you need that trophy, and replay the last minute from the game’s autosave.
16:10 Phineas’ fridge might not have anything in it. (Patch update?) Take any food in the room, and you can get the other food you need from the Unreliable’s kitchen.
16:22 sleep for 6 hours to completely refill sleep gauge and make yourself thirsty again. Get stealth to 50 all, lie to 70, then lockpick to 63.
16:50 lie to the guard.
16:56 make sure you have at least 2 sugary drinks and several meat/carbs before leaving.
17:24 eat enough meat/carb to refill your hunger meter.
18:14 you need +1 body from a sugary drink to pick open this door.
18:40 reset your shroud on these guards. Be precise with the next jumps because jumping burns shroud.
19:20 Sophia. Before leaving the elevator, drink your remaining sugary drink to fill your thirst gauge and return your perception to three upward green arrows.

Once I get to the charm part I have only one option - "On second thought, I'm done talking to you. Let's get this over with" Any suggestions as to what I'm missing?
Are all your hunger and thirst and sleep meters full?
@@Dan_Geer_ I'm not sure, what screen is it on? Perception was showing as 3 upwards arrows and I had a screen where I could see the food and drink effects were active but I don't know where the sleep meter is. Is there a certain level or speech ability needed?
On supernova, the meters are all on the top left of the main screen, underneath the hp and ttd bars. Try bring everything from the Unreliable’s kitchen, even the alcohol, and downing it all in the elevator just before you step out and talk to Sophia. Make sure you sleep during the two times I noted that he sleeps to get your sleep meter full.
You don’t need to do anything to boost charm, as long as you maxed it out at the very start during your character build. But being hungry or thirsty or sleepy can knock your charm down a level during speech checks.
@@Dan_Geer_ Thank you so much for your replies. Unfortunately it hasn't worked. All my meters are full, once I got an option for a speech check that included strength and heavy weapons. Tried again and drank alcohol to raise charm to average and all meters full again but only the attack option. I'm wondering has it been patched. Or if I should go and grind levels to get 100 persuade 😂
Still works, March 2024 on the Spacers Edition PS5. Only thing I needed to do differently is put 50 into sneak earlier to open Gladys' safe in a second
Apart from that, awesome guide, along with time stamp comment it got me the supernova trophy
I think the devs would appreciate this. I remember them mentioning that they'd like to see a speed run that included Tartarus. You found a couple good shortcuts already.

This guide works as of March 2021! My playthrough took a bit longer bc I looted/ate/fought enemies to get xp and manage hunger & thirst. I was lvl 10 by game's end.

This is a criminally underrated speedrun. I'm not much of speed runner when it comes to this game, I prefer stopping and taking in it's world, but there is a great deal of respect that I can give to a speedrun like this one.
I just beat Supernova today, and seeing this not end in the sun ending was just so good

Others already mentioned the few exceptions. For some reasons when I arrived at Tartarus I had no door openers with me. I had several save files, so I returned to the Groundbreaker and got myself the 4 openers that I needed for the door at 18:14. Glad to have supernova out of the way now.
Ty so much for this guide, video, play through. I never thought I’d be able to do a play through of a hard difficulty but as soon as I found out about a pacifist play through I knew I could do it. Amazing work!

This is bananas dude. I've beaten it on hard but I avoided Supernova because I hate survival modes. I'm gonna give this a shot tonight and hopefully it still works.

If you are having difficulty with Gladys' safe, just level up Stealth to 50 all now instead of later and it will work. You may get caught, but it hardly matters if you already took the stamp.
Thanks! For some reason, it took so much longer for my character to pick the safe than it did in the video, and TTD didn't seem to make any difference. You were right: still got caught, but with 50 Stealth I had enough time to empty the safe.
Need to be very careful when assigning skill points though: I almost ruined my run on Tartarus by putting all my Dialogue skills to 50, instead of just Lie to 70. Thankfully I noticed in time to cancel it.

Vielen Dank für dieses Video. Es hat mir sehr geholfen, wobei ich nur Teile deines Weges genutzt habe. Zuvor hatte ich bereits OW auf Albtraum im Strang "Dumm" (Sonnenflug) beendet. Das zählte jedoch nicht für die PS4 Platin Trophäe. Ich hatte dann aus dem Run einen Speicherstand als Basis genutzt und dann nach deinem Weg weitergespielt. Ich musste zwar meine Fähigkeiten neu verteilen, aber das ist zu verschmerzen. Jedenfalls hat es nach 2 Anläufen mit der Platin geklappt. Vielen Dank nochmals. this was very useful to me and made getting the trophy much less troublesome than i thought it would be. for anyone who isnt speedrunning id recommend picking up a few of the items u pass by so u can sell them and buy food in the room just before the pit and buy extra food/water items. selling the rifle u can grab from phineas room gets u around 500 bits which is plenty

Great guide! One note: I kept on getting disguise failed around 14:03, but riding up and down in the elevator a few times helped reset it for me.

Very helpful video. Managed to do the Pit with a slightly longer route (not sneaking past the first door and failing the jump on the crate, if you have a trait at 70+ you can lie your way up to the final floor)
Just a tip for everyone, remember that Alcol cause your stats to decrease after it ends so you better drink everything just a minute before you meet Sophia or wait until you're sober again then speak to her
Thank you so much for the help! Got all the difficulty trophies out of the way now I can just enjoy the game as it should be played. At 19:20 however, I had to do some extra stuff as when I first got to the perception dialogue it was locked. Thankfully I was able to recover and use my hacking skills to get back on track. Nonetheless... you da real MVP.

For those still having difficulty with the Gladys safe, start picking the safe and activate TTD halfway through picking the safe. Also want to say that this speedrun still works as of dec 2020 on PS4.

CONFIRMED: This method STILL works - on the PlayStation 5 version as of 6/28/2024. The abandoned plant on Monarch is the hardest part in terms of combat. And once you're on Tartarus, make sure you have enough skill, food, and mag locks.
Take as much food as possible through this run. As Dan Geer said, there is extra food in the Unreliable's kitchen. And when you get ready to talk to Sophia at the end, do not take alcohol as that will lower your attributes.

Working Feb 2024 on ps5 spacers choice edition. My lock pick was 3s on groundbreaker. Use ttd halfway through picking as others have said. Take food from unreliable kitchen. For the last door to pick I was one mag lock short so must have missed one. Still doable going the longway round. Great guide 👍
After being stuck trying to open the safe and failing went with stealth+5 and lockpick +5 gear I found on top of the security booth. it helped to lockpick undetected.Used TTD at quarter of being done just in case but they didn't seem to pick up on it.

If you’re struggling with getting the final conversation options to unlock - try drinking both a mind and body boosting drinks. Worked for me after being stuck a while.

The loading times in your video compared to mine (ps4) is insane. it takes 30 seconds for us peasants to open a door.

Do you have a standard PS4 with an HDD? I put an SSD in my Pro awhile back and it’s about the same as the uploader’s load times.
I just used this to get hard and supernova! It works perfectly, the only weird thing is that stealing the seal from gladys takes 2 seconds not 0 so you will need to use TTD. And don't forget to eat and drink!

To anyone looking for a way to restore your stats before facing Sophia, there's a selection of vendor shops containing food and drink next to the entrance to 'the pit'
Im glad this video exists. I missed 2 trophies on my first run so knowing it will take an hour tops to get supernova is great

Curious, how are you able to get Sophia to surrender at lvl 8? Ive gotten stuck on here twice now, the option to intimidate her isnt even popping up. Am I doing something wrong?

I dont really want to watch this for spoilers so can anyone advise me on the decisions please? I want to do a normal playthrough first and what choices should I make to get the one or the other trophys so it'll be easier to this run to get the other trophies.
Don't think I've explained very well but what trophies based on your decisions should I leave for this second supernova run?
Stuck halfway at Percival, I start lockpick, immediately stop it and try to run to the door but he starts talking and I have to persuade or something. Second time guards start shooting right away. I just can't make him stand up and follow me. Edit: solved it by using TTD just before staring lockpick.

Grab Phins Force and sell it before the (18:06) loading door in Tartarus for 1,000 bits, buy five sugary drinks as the chance of them being in the fridge at the lab is slim.
I have the gas canister but the quest isn't updating, phineas is still sending me to stellar bay.

i cant crack the safe without geting cought at 8:40 it takes 2 second and every time im geting spoted, even the guy outside behind the wall spots me
I never made it to level 8 by the time it is time to go to Taratarus . For some fucked reason, i did everything if not more, and im level 7. Any advice on doing some pacifist related quests? Otherwise im fucked😅
