The consolidation of Acclaim in the 90s came with a lot of blood and violence. No, the company staff did not go into a fight, but licensed Mortal Kombat for home consoles. Mortal Kombat is a saga of fighting games created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, whose first title in the series was released in 1992. Based on the graphic style of Pit-Fighter, the arcade versions and 16-bit consoles of the 90 exhibited digitized graphics of real actors, making them very realistic. In this version, after failing in the first tournament Shang Tsung gets your youth back to get another chance of Shao Kahn. This version was better than the first, made famous in the SNES having suffered censorship in blows, blood and fatalities. FATALITY!

This game used to scare me as a kid because of the:
- soundtrack
- very minimalistic interface
- and the faces of the trees
- the laugh of the commentator
I remember the title screen used to creep me out as a kid. The thunder sounds and lightning illuminating the MK dragon logo was too much for 5 year old me to bear.
@@galacticaphantom1332 lmao yeah that game was clearly not suitable for children (aside from the gore that was ironically the less scary part of it)
@@MashMash funny how that works. maybe as kids even we knew how cartoonishly gratuitous the gore was
@@galacticaphantom1332 the interface of the game is the scariest part lol.. played it at 3-4yo for few weeks by stealing the cartridge from my brother's drawer... and once i got caught my family changed its location so I stop playing it
This is the best Mortal Kombat game for the Super Nintendo
It looks cool. I like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the genesis myself.
Thank God They Didn't Remove The Blood Again For This Version
@@ABTube27 Except the Japanese version for some reason.
@@ElifSinim The Japanese version had the blood green.
@@stopthrm Me too
I just bought this game for SNES, its supposed to arrive in the mail today, can't wait to play it again! Haven't owned an SNES in 15 years!
I've haven't owned a SNES In 12 years
SNES is the most complete home port with all of the details from the arcade in tact.
The competition had a unique mix of music with solid game play. But, was missing sound affects while having a darker color scheme.
I actually prefered the darker color scheme and darker and grittier FM music on the Sega Genesis version.
These aspects fit the dark setting the game has much more, at least for me. It's truly a marvel in Sega's book.
The only thing I prefer about this version is the clarity in the voice samples obviously, even though they get mixed, cut and/or muffled sometimes.
Sega could've done much better, Dynamite Headdy is an obvious proof of the Genesis being able to bear crystal-clear voice samples. But I suppose that so many grunts, screams and moans might get annoying to some players really quickly.
That's my personal honest opinion, I can respect others'.
Indeed, one of the best arcade-to-console ports this time, even MK's creator John Tobias was very impressed by the SNES-port.
@@Adrian.R850 in the arcade original you have even some more grunts and moans than in the SNES port, this makes the game complete. What do you want, a Silent Kombat?
@@Adrian.R850I agree. I read a comment on fb guys saying sega music and sound effects sucks. I agree on the sound effects but the music on sega was just ahead of snes.
What a classic game. Fans love this a lot!
Indeed. MK2 is my favourite MK, even in 2022, and the SNES has the best console port of it.
Mortal Kombat 2 and Street Fighter 2 are the best fighting games ever made. Absolutely classics.
MK2 and SSF2 on SNES are my favourites! MK2 on the SNES is even better playable than the arcade-original imo.
When that title slams itself in the middle of the screen and you hear the imposing, ominous sound of thunder you know that t's time to pay respect to one of the greatest games to have come out in the 90's.
For me MKII was the greatest of all the MK games. After that, all other sequels that followed began to lose their luster until MK could no longer be seen as MK. Sad, but true.
***** I think it's partly the look. Digitized fighters have long since been dead and unlikely to make any kind of return unfortunately. That, and the fatalities are now more over the top than ever before for my liking. The overall feel in general just isn't the same anymore.
rsuriyop
I'd be super excited for a new 2D MK with HD digitized actors. :)
I think MK1 - UMK3 are the best. The rest is okay.
rsuriyop MK I and II had that classic blend of 80s/Hong Kong action/fighting tournament movie. You’re right - after this the franchise lost sight of its origins.
Jenn1382 MKX went one better than 9 - ie giving Sonya and Kitana less boobage.
Played the hell out of this version back in the day.
I played this game a lot when I was much younger. This is cool to see.
Imagine taking a peaceful jog when the trees around you suddenly grow faces and start roaring... טּ_טּ
then sub zero comes along.. freezes you and punches your head off.
I would Sh!t my Pants i'm mean like Fu*k that i'm going home
Im miss playing mortal kombat 2 this my favorite game so much
Nintendo learnt their lesson after they removed the blood in the SNES port of MK1, so here, the blood was back. Probably the best MK SNES port.
It's the best MK for the SNES and the best MK2-port.
Man when this game dropped, me and my friends would pull all nighters drinking surge to stay awake playing each other and the computer.....brings back so many memories!!!! SNES was so much fun!!!
I just wanted to pop in and say ♪Toasty♪
I spent so many hours of my childhood playing this great game. Classic!
29:09 no matter how far you’ve gotten or how long it took, getting to the top of the mountain with Shao Kahn in the Battle Plan menu just feels so fucking good.
The character selection screen music is, just like the rest of the game, pure awesomeness!
Thx for the upload!
It was awesome to switch between MK2, DKC and MMX saturday winter mornings :)
For me, it was MK2, dkc, power rangers, and super mario world. I want my childhood back.
Starts at 14:00.
Thanks
Or you could use timestamps in description.
Man how I miss those days, I would play this game for hours when I was a kid.
My favorite port of MK II SNES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Soundtrack on SNES is like the Arcade
15:30 - scorpion standing there without a torso. Not having a torso is no problem for a beast like scorpion!
"Guys who were forced to play the game and got payed for it." lol
17:40 I really dig the Mode 7 on the finishing move!
It looks even better than the arcade-original's pit fatality!
I still play this game !!!
To me, part 2 was the best of the classic series and this was a near flawless port of the Arcade.
Kintaro spitting out those bullets looks like a tank
The Super NES version is a good port of the arcade. It's a bit slower than the Genesis, but it is better, and a massive improvement over the first game, since the ESRB jumped in. Shao Khan had awkward sounds however.
Best MK2-port by far
I like Shao Khan's scream. 😆
The best port was the PC one that launched with MK1+2+3. If you're not counting the Arcade Kollection
Exceptionally good work on this one. So much patience to go through all these characters, incredible!
Only one thing I would change: have each character biography show before you start a campaign with him/her individually, instead of putting them all together at the beginning. But that's just me.
Once again, very good work. It was a great playthrough.

Best port 👌 felt like the arcade at home. I miss the old days playing this hours on end trying to find hidden button combinations with friends to play as smoke. Sadly I could only fight him.
Really the best MK2-port, I like it even more than the arcade-original in some aspects, the better AI for example.
@@greensun1334 The Arcade version of MK II was just as hard.
@@WizardOfWor the arcade game is okay when you know how the AI works. Now, we know the tricks. But it's still a game supposed to make money...

I remember this old game 😃
This is the best home version of MK II. It has all the correct music on all the stages.
This is by far my favourite version of the game. I even prefer it to the arcade original becasue they A.I. isn't so frustratingly cheap, and it's just a more fun game to play.
Yeah, the AI in the arcade is flat out ridiculous.
Um yeah the arcade game of this was never meant to be played alone...-its playing against another player in where the magic happens...
True, it's by far the best MK2-port. But on hard or very hard it's like Impossible to beat. Medium is my limit here!
Good old days
Who else agrees the ceiling of spikes is the coolest stage fatality?
are you ever gonna do MK3 or Trilogy? Because i watched your MK1 playthrough and you didn't take a single hit. An incredible job, and the amount of time and practice through the years to perform that well is amazing. Keep up the great work.

Today I discovered something interesting: In the European 50hz version of MK2 all the fighters have a higher and longer jump and the uppercut sends the opponent also higher in the air. This makes a huge impact to the overall gameplay, it slows down (but no actual slowdown), almost like moon gravity. Because of the 50hz it's also slower running. It's the same thing with SNES-MK1. It's needless to say that the US versions of all SNES-MKs are superior. Try it for yourself!
Whats the deal with the 50hz thing in some PAL versions of games?
@@kingsavageson4879 it's the refresh rate. They run a little bit slower as well.
@@greensun1334 But like why is it even an issue? Does it have to do with the types of TVs available in a certain region or what? The whole situation is confusing to me...
@@kingsavageson4879 European and Australian systems (PAL, and their PAL games) were 50hz. American (NTSC-US) and Japanese (NTCS-JP) were 60hz. They were not comparible with each other, the games worked only with the system of its region. This was the case with the older consoles (up to 16bit), today it's 60hz worldwide. I don't know the exact reason for it.
Hands down the best 16 bit version of MK2
Teil 2 das beste Spiel überhaupt
Kintaro sounds like the Hulk on crack. ROFL
Which port of MKII is better, SNES or Genesis?
SNES there is no comparison the Sega Genesis version is straight up ass honestly moat tal combats are pretty much are just straight up ass on the Genesis.
What about this? Which port is better: Super Nintendo or the Sega 32x?
SNES is still better then 32X.
+Lore Torrent agree
The SNES MK2 is the best and I can't believe this is even a debate still.
// Of the original trilogy, this is my favorite. The SNES version also has the best music of any version, though in terms of graphics and gameplay, the arcade original is best. Though of the home console versions, this is hands-down the best version.
I'd say the 32X port edges out the SNES port. The SNES port is nice, but the 32X port has better sounding voices, runs at a higher resolution so sprites are bigger and things look nicer, all the frames of animation are there, etc. Of the older home ports I'd put the 32X as first, then SNES, then Genesis, then PS1, then Saturn. The Saturn and PS1 ports are just a mess.
SegaFanatic5188 The 32x version I'd say is tied with the SNES version. The sprites are better on the 32x, I can agree with that, but the backgrounds aren't nearly as nice as on the SNES version. The 32x does have better voices as you said, though.
In terms of music, it's a tossup. The 32x/Genesis music *is* done by Matt Furniss, so it's got a really good OST, while the SNES version has some really nice quality renditions of the arcade tracks.
The Amiga version has by far the best music of any MK port
Shaf Hussain There's an Amiga MK2?

Ah I remember beating the game except the mystery character was super hard to beat
Yes, it's a hard game, even on very easy. But with the time I learned the moves, fast reflexes and the AI's behavior, now it's no problem to beat it on medium. On hard or even very hard is just insane...
Awww... you didn't do Shang Tsung's Kintaro Fatality?!
+DBoy2029 Duh! Of course he couldn’t! He was obviously 🙄 immune to his freezing powers.
I Grew Up With This Version
im playing to mortal kombat 2 snes and with kitana everywhere on web it says; d d d lk for babality but im not f ucking able to do it??! how you sure its the good code?! i even tried with another controller if mine was broken or something and i even tried to add 10sec for fatality and with more time ddd + lk after no it doesnt work damn it :(
Shao Kahn's pain sound on the SNES = so pitiful. But his attack sound is beastly as it uses Kintaro's voice instead of his own voice as you would hear in the other versions of MK II.
On the Saturn the characters sound like cats when they die.
And on Genesis they have nothing to say. 32X sounds just wrong too...
That's because his pain sound on this version is accurate to the Arcade version.
29:34 oooohhhh!!! He almost had that another flawless victory!

I thought Shao Kahn had most of his voice samples in this port? All I hear him say is “You will die, Mortal!”.
You weak, pathetic fool; you will die, mortal; all to easy; is that your best? - That's his speech in this port (SNES has the best and most complete MK2 by far)!
He only had about two. My guess is that the developers couldn't fit all of his voice samples taunting the fighter from the Arcade version into a 16-Bit cartridge.
@@WizardOfWor Dude, ever played this version? Shao Kahn has his voice samples. This game is very complete with its 24megs
@@greensun1334 Yeah, I used to own the SNES version. He just only has two of his samples there. One when you're fighting against him: "You will die, mortal!" & the other one where he defeats you: "Is that your best?".
That's only the two he says the most but also "all to easy" and "you weak pathetic fool" - it's also been said during / after the match and in the secret opening (press &hold L&R, switch on the console)!
Excellent player! :D
SubZero is the best character.
Not in this MK imo. He is rather weak in this game, compared to other fighters!
Actually Shang Tsung is the best, he can transform into whoevers favorite character & has one special move beyond his transformations, but its a beast of a special.

Why no names inside the power bar??
so sad Sonya Blade was not playable in this. maybe the developers wanted to somehow put her in the game, but couldn’t because of the budget costs and maybe the previous actress of Sonya Blade didn’t want to do the sequel.
Ir was due to her and kano being the least used characters in mk 1 and memory limitations at that time
