It is always intriguing to me how the Tudors was the only show that really examined Henry and Charles' relationship, because in real life over all the ups and downs and all the people Henry had put to death for one reason or another for angering him, Charles, despite even angering him for the secret marriage with his sister, didn't actually get killed by Henry for what could have been easily considered an egregious action. When you look at the history books, we talk so much about all these great figures of history, almost all of them felled by Henry's anger and execution orders, its Charles Brandon who survived through it all and outlived them all, and remained in Henry's favor until his death, to which Henry proceeded to pay for his entire funeral.
They had such a beautiful friendship and even if Charles didn't agree with Henry he was always a loyal subject and a very loyal friend. Charles and King Henry's Sister, Mary Tudor,, really angered Henry when they married secretly after Mary's husband, the king of France, died a couple of months after they were married. Mary Tudor was only Queen consort of France for about 3 months. She and Charles secretly married on the way back to England. That was somewhere around 1518, and 10 years before Henry started going nuts and wanted to divorce his wife, and separated from the Roman Catholic Church. Charles Brandon knew Henry better than anybody, and knew Henry would cool off. Charles knew they hurt Henry's pride and vanity. Henry banned them from court for a while, but he got over it. Charles Brandon was such a womanizer at that time. I don't think he's settled down until he married Elizabeth. That was around 1533. It was just terribly sad how Mary Tudor died!! She had tuberculosis but the king didn't even know she was sick and Charles really didn't even know that Mary was sick because she was hiding it from him.
The marriage of Charles Brandon and Mary Tudor was in 1515, not 1518. Actually, they married twice formally, once in France and once in England; both in 1515. The wife he took after Mary’s death in 1533 was named Katherine Willoughby, not Elizabeth. Mary Tudor’s ill-health was well-known to both her husband and brother. She was really unwell when she came to London for the wedding of her eldest daughter Frances, just a few weeks before her death.
Debbie Blackman yes Charles and Henry had god friendship and they was friends from 1509-1547. They had there fights but they loved each other like Brothers and friends.
@@ann-marihillestad7582 Well,Charles died in 1545. And they were friends since childhood, not just 1509,because Charles was raised at court as a ward of the Crown. His father died protecting Henry's father at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. As a result of this battle Henry's father took the throne of England. Charles was a 1 year old baby at the time and his mother died few years later.
