Yeah, the cheater isn’t something I do all the time, but for example- I need twelve little books by Sunday as Valentine’s Day favors. I think I’ll just use the cheater method!
Thank you for making this tutorial. I just started making covers for my mini albums. They always intimidated me. I really love the lay flat method and had not seen that before. the little "Cheater" is awesome.
Hi Lynn! Thank you so much for the kind words. Covers used to intimidate me too. Once I learned that I needed to have enough of a gap between the cover and the spine things went well. And everything gets covered by decorative paper anyhow. Have fun creating!!!
Thanks. I usually use a combination of the two. I cover each piece like the 2nd method but I do the corners like the first method. I will try the 2nd method for the corners. 😊
Great review and tutorial. It’s nice to have technique videos. What was the name / brand of your bone folder? I’m in need of a new one. Thanks so much.
I like the Dress your Craft bone folder. I’m not sure if it is Teflon, but it is nonstick. The point does get dull, in fact I just took an emery board to mine this morning.
New subscriber here....and new to making my own albums.... do you have a video that shows how to make the hinge for this type and size of album? Thanks in advance!!
Hi Lisa, you are a mind reader! I am making a video with a few different hinge processes. Depending on the internet it’ll be a couple more days before I publish it…stay tuned! And welcome!
@@Project39MiniAlbumsI did. Album created and gifted. Just wondering about doing a 3" spine instead of 2.5". Would I use the same hinge measurements for that? Thanks again...love your videos!
Hi Lisa! Sorry, I’ve been out of cell service areas. Yes, you can use the same size hinge! You’ll have a little more room in the front and back cover which is perfectly fine!
Great tutorial and I love the cheater method at the end, that's really good for the left over scrap chipboard! I am wondering if the L pages hold up over time? I always use the hidden hinge system and never had an issue over the years but some have said these pages won't last if they are turned too often they get weak even with heavier 110 lb cardstock, what is your view on this? I always appreciate the time you take to make the tutorials and still find time to respond so thank you!
Hi Anita! Hinge versus L pages- The hinge system will win every time. I like it for the movement it gives to the pages, the stability, and the look. However…if I am making a quick book that is going to get little use, I will try the L pages. And it is a great method to use as a starting point, to get a group of youngsters or beginning crafters into the craft. I might use L pages next week when I need a few small Valentine’s Day books as little gifts. But as I said, anything heritage or chunky or basically anything that is not a “novelty” mini book is gonna get the hinge system. Hinge for the win!!!
I recommend using Artisan Cardstock from Country Craft Creations. If you are not able to purchase from then then choose a good quality cardstock with a 65 to 90 lb weight. I have also used the Recollections cardstock from Michaels and had good results.
You are an EXCELLENT instructor, thank you from us newbies!
Thank you so much! You are so kind. I am so glad you enjoyed it!
What an interesting little cheater method! TFS

Hi Sharon! I switch it up. Depends on my mood I guess. And how I’m gonna decorate the cover.
Thank you for sharing, love them

What cardstock do you use?
