Box has been out now for about 4-5+ years (Hasn't had a update in a while). Still holds up for regular streaming. As for price. Here in the U.S. it has doubled in price last couple of years ($70+) Where you can still get Tivo 4k Stream and Chromecast with Google tv from 29.99 - 49.99 depending on the sale (with newer versions of android). One thing about Android tv over Smart TVs and Roku, is you can sideload tons of apps.
Yes. Looks like Xiaomi stopped pushing software updates on this thing (the last one was from last year) despite they kept selling it as they moved on to the Mi TV Stick and Xiaomi TV Stick 4K, with no proper successor to the Mi Box S. I still kept mine for my old Full HD TV from 2010, while my Samsung UHD TV from 2016 now has the Chromecast with Google TV dongle and it runs smoother even in 4K HDR.
Niche usage but just ordered one as it have optical out so I can link it to my Sonos Ray. Bedroom TV doesn’t have optical out as it’s a smart monitor and have a 5.0 Sonos bedroom setup.
Exactly ,i have a smart tv but needs a tv box that reads 4k content using USB. Did you connect some 4k movie to see if run smooth without freezing? I have a lot of cds that i backup to external HDD to format MP4 and MKV .
