    Hello. I live near Tampa Florida and I am confused on what type of tortoise would be best for me. I've never owned a tortoise before and I am looking for a tortoise that won't get too big. I thought I was set on the Eastern Hermann's tortoise. Now I am starting to hear about the red foot cherry head. I just want to make sure it will be comfortable living in Florida with the humid weather. If anyone has any recommendations they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @ar.5230
      @ar.5230 7 лет назад

      The eastern herman is a european tort and may not do so well in humidity.
      Go for a Red foot/Indian Star or any other which are not from cooler regions.

    I have a Greek tortoise he's almost two years old when I got him I was told he was five weeks. He was tiny and he still is, how big should he be at this age? I take pictures of him beside a bottle water cap he grew maybe a little but it's hard to tell. He's the size of a golf ball. Also he will not eat anything if it has calcium powder on it except radicchio. I tried giving him cactus pad but he couldn't bite into even tho he tried. How much powder calcium should he be consuming?

    • @ar.5230
      @ar.5230 7 лет назад

      Try giving it some grass, because in nature small tortoises usually have access to more of grass since they can't reach out to the leaves.
      Greeks usually don't get that big and do not add too much of calcium it may lead to pyramiding.

    • @1313tish
      @1313tish 7 лет назад

      Majestic Isle thanx😊 How often should I give it to him right now he gets it once a week

    So if i bought one of these at Petsmart in MO. they would have to stay indoors all the time wouldn't they? They dont like high humidity. I wouldn't trust having any tortoise here. But they have them at Petsmart, TESTUDO.

    • @Youngstomata

      I would say no. Testudo species specifically the males can be aggressive and territorial. And the leopards get very large in comparison

      Over time they get used to handling by the person feeding them and taking care of them. You can tell it from the way tortoises act:they dont try to defend themselves totally withdrawing into the shell or dont pee. The same with our tortoises
