As far as hinges go, my all time fav at least for my current memories sake was the full-length watch band that Lenovo used on its Yoga 3 Pro. As far as this HP laptop, I would have preferred to have a full size SD card reader but given the rarity these days of including any SD card reader on laptops in recent years, its certainly better than not having one but as I said I would have preferred a full size SD card reader so I can take the card straight out of my Dslr camera and put it in the laptop, I don't even know how the mini sd card readers work? is it like micro sim cards? You can buy micro SD cards almost anywhere that has regular sized SD cards and they typically come with an adapter. You have a tiny SD card inside of a normal SD card and you insert that into your camera. Then when you want to take content off of your camera, you take out the large adapter and pull the micro SD out of there and stick that in your laptop. It's not as much of a hassle as it sounds

I haven't tried Chromecast yet with this laptop. Do you get a black screen? When I use OBS (screen recording software) it originally showed a black screen because this laptop has 2 GPUs. I fixed the problem by opening the folder where the OBS application was; right clicking; and selecting open with the Intel internal GPU.
thank you for the video. HP is replacing my x2 for this because of screen flickering and I'm excited but I saw a few bad reviews on BestBuy related to flickering again. Did you have any issues with this or any other issues after a windows update?
When i saw the 13 inch version i just loved it but i wished if it had the primary number keys, traditional ports and dedicated graphics. Now I'm so happy i think I've already decided to buy this 15 inch version. Thanks for the video
Thank you for reviewing the Spectre. I bought it last night. I thought it was expensive, but I need a powerful computer to handle the Agency Management System for work. I feel better about spending the money now.
I can understand now why the power port for this latest model is no longer a USB-C port as in the previous models. This is because they have been claims worldwide about the USB-Type C port physically breaking down after many plug ins/outs like myself. Based on my experience, I have to send my 2017 model for repair twice so far as HP has to replace the whole motherboard in order to replace my USB-C charging port.
That depends on your budget and what you are looking to do! If you want a powerhouse with better CPU, GPU, and RAM, then you should go with the spectre. If you are on a tighter budget and just need a laptop for everyday use (i.e. you are not an engineer or film maker), then the Envy is a great laptop. I always suggest chromebooks as well because most people forget they exist. If the majority of what you do is just on the internet, they are a fantastic cheap option too. To summarize though, I love my spectre x360 and would recommend it to anyone if they can afford it and have a use for it! Thanks for watching!
I just order mine, I receive it tomorrow...its awesome with 1TB in storage and its a 10th generation icore7, plus I only paid $1600 for it brand new; because, I caught a sale.
LV style I would say. I thought I could live with it. But ended up returning, could not live with that jewelry-like design, sharp edges and ridiculous top and bottom bezels.
The AMOLED display will likely be awesome, but note that it will only be an option on the Core i7-8565U/MX150 version, NOT the Core i7-8570H/1050 Ti Max-Q version.
@@MarkCoppock42 oh I thought it would be the other way around, since it will be their top of the line. Anyways, if not, then I'll wait for another manufacturer to throw an AMOLED on a 15" with decent graphic card 🤷♂️. Dell and Asus will be doing it too.
Mark Coppock really? The Amoled will only be for the lower end graphics? That completely takes the decision off my hands. Can’t get it. No need to wait then. :( thanks for the tip
@@JoelRemix I really doubt that. The new AMOLED display will have higher RGB and sRGB color fidelity and will be geared to the content creator; so it makes sense to pair with the higher end configuration with the 1050 and 6 cores CPU. I haven't seen anything online that says it will be paired with the lower end config.
ive plugged in a mac charger into the usb c port and it charges my 15" gem cut albeit slower because it was the 29w wall adapter, but it definitely charged
Yeah I think you can use the thunderbolt port to charge if you have a docking station as well. I wish they just made the charging port a usb-C though so you had another port on the left side. Right now, if you want to plug in a USB, all three are on the right. Thanks for watching!

Hi. I also ordered this hp spectre laptop, but now the 2020 model. Unfortunately this time the leather case is not included. You mentioned in this video that you would buy a different one for your laptop. My question is that if you still have the original one can i have it? you tell me the price.....by the way i stay in Thailand, where are you from?
Hi nice review Mike! I have a quick query i am confused between spectre 360 15 and Dell inspiron 15 7586 laptop. Could you please advise which one should I go with.
mike o'brien outstanding hp spectre x360 youtube video overall 101%. between hp spectre x360 3 sizes 1. 14 2. 15 3. 16 which order is battery life longevity ??? can you list hours of each size ??? i did all my homework/research & did purchase hp spectre x360 15.6" which did arrive today.
It actually can charge through usbc. At 3:35 you talk about the barrel port plug. I just bought a usbc 60W super slim charger and it’s great because of how portable it is, over the stock barrel port charger the laptop comes with.
Just thought you should know, USB C has a max out put of 100 watts meaning it would not be capable of supplying correct power to the laptop. The XPS 15 has a barrel connector as well because it needs 130 watts which USB C can't offer.
Yeah I understand the limitations. The power pack supplies much more power and can charge the laptop quicker. I was just thinking that if they charged with a USB-C, then we would have another USB port (which would be nice), the charging cable/block could be smaller, and it would be on the opposite side (right now they are all on the right). It is really a small complaint, I know, but there weren't many other negatives I could mention about this laptop. Thanks for watching and commenting, Plump Cat!
I am not sure but isn't it the case that you can still charge it via USB-C, just at a slower speed than with the original charger? Myself looking forward to the model with the 15-inch OLED (still 4k) display, hoping the additional price for it will not be too high. Should be available from Q2/2019 on.
@@drivefive yes it is totally possible to charge using just USB C, it will just be slower and won't be able to charge the laptop it your doing any intensive work like photo and video editing.
@@MikeOBrienMedia I agree that it would be a nice use of real estate, but there is a USB-C port with charging capabilities if you wanted to go get a usb-C charger, I like that I have the option to pick up a smaller charge brick for travel but can still have the 90W charging with the barrel charger for quick top ups between classes. Had this laptop for 3 months now and I love it.
Well, the power source is big because it's 150w. You need that kind of power for the 45w 6 core processor. The USB type c on the other side can also be used to charge the laptop but only at 90w so all performance wont be there, because of the lack of power needed.
Would you recommend this model for those in Digital Media & Design work? I need a new machine that can handle running Ai, Pr, Ps, Ae, Dr etc. and the Internet...something that can easily run at least 3 Adobe programs simultaneously. My previous machines have been gifted Dell Inspirons. My machines have struggled to keep up with the demands of my work, and I've never owned a Mac. I'm looking for something that can support me as I leave University and move into the working world. Thanks in advance for any reply, informative review!!
I'm in the same position as you. Yet noone has answered any questions about using it for graphic design. Also it has to be convertible (drawing illustrations in tablet mode). If you now something, please let me know :)
Where can I buy this laptop, and what's the storage count ? Also, how does this compare to Samsung's Notebook 5 2019 Edition as far as the price, and features?
I bought this laptop and the pen came with a battery for my computer. I also got a leather case with mine. One negative I had, I wanted the Poseidon Blue but they were not selling it in the 15 inch at the Best Buy I was shopping at.
Great Review, loved your Presentation. In your opinion, COMPARED to an APPLE MACBOOK PRO 2018, which one would you Rather have and which is more Powerful?
Abdul Jalil I would rather have this. I have experienced both and hands down, this machine is a better value and more powerful, I believe, with a better gpu.
@@phyozan8045 I have this computer and I honestly think the spectre is great! The latest processor is i7 10th gen and runs smoothly! It is 360 degrees and also comes with the HP Tilt Pen
What about the SD card slot? Have u used it? I have the 13 inch 128gb & want to add memory with sd card? Any suggestions? Ty. Great review too. I like my laptop a lot.
Yeah I use micro SD card slots all the time. Honestly though, I would recommend just dumping unnecessary items onto and external hard drive. You can get a Seagate 2TB one for under $60. If you really want an SD card though, I've plugged 128GB micro SD cards in many times. SanDisk works best for me
Before anyone buys this laptop, I would recommend you go to Best Buy and try it first. The HP Spectre with the Nvidia 1050 dedicated graphics GPU was my top contender as a mobile workstation for 4k video editing... until I tried it. I wanted to try out the keyboard and get feel for the weight of the device before I ordered the one I want from HP. The trackpad was TERRIBLE! I was floored. I have heard other reviewers say precision drivers are preferred over synaptic drivers, but I didn't get why until I could see it for myself. It let me know precision drivers in the trackpad is a MUST for me. For those who don't have access to a Best Buy or the time to go, I would watch Windows Central review of the Spectre x360 13. In it, they do a side-by-side comparison of the trackpad with a Microsoft precision trackpad. If you're a visual learner like me, it can be very useful. To be clear, I'm not saying don't get the device. It wasn't the right fit for me, but it may still be for you. It is cheaper than other similarly spec'd laptops, but it is still an expensive device. You should make sure the compromises are ones you can live with for a number of years. The trackpad may not bother you at all. You may be okay with getting an external mouse. The other thing to consider is the weight. It's 4.81lbs if you get the high-end GPU and more powerful CPU. As a laptop, that's not very heavy; in tablet mode, it's a tank! Lol. It limits the versatility of the device, in my opinion, making it really only best in laptop/tent mode or use the tablet flat on a table. The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is about 4.5lbs, so it has the same issue. The Microsoft Surface Book 2 has the wonderful feature of being able to remove the tablet, but it has an ultrabook CPU rather than a H-series processor. My frontrunner is the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme. I'm a writer, so the keyboard makes me droooooooool. It's not a 2-in-1, but it does fold flat/180°, which I appreciate over the traditional clamshell design. I wish it had a full size keyboard, like the HP Spectre, but it's not a deal breaker for me. It is for my sister though, so she's looking at the LG gram 15.
How long do you expect the i5 version (13")to last in every day life? Going to buy it for office tasks and I want it to last several years.. Too expensive to die after 12 months
Rico Mayer probably invest in the i7 8750H model, as the best cpus last longest, which is obvious. However, for office tasks the i5 will still be quick and more than enough.
I have an older model of this laptop and have been thinking about upgrading soon. The only thing I'm kind of disappointed about is the charging port is no longer a USB-C port like the model I have. On one hand I like that it frees up a USB-C port, but on the other I kind of wish they just added one and kept the USB-C charging so that when I'm at my desk I'm docked through a single cable, but when I'm on the go I have an extra port. This new model I'd have to plug in my USB-C dock and the power supply instead of being able to plug in one cable like I do now, which I love. Really it's a minor annoyance but I really thought it was the coolest thing being able to plug in a single cable and be good to go.
I would rather have this laptop than the MacBook 2018 laptop

Hey what about expandability in terms of RAM and SSD? I'm thinking of getting the 8gb version and increase the ram later on.
Aadhar Gupta I heard RAM was saudered in via Lisa from MobileTechReviews. My question is is the video memory upgradable?
I just watched this review and ordered this laptop. :) So excited! Thank you for the helpful information.
Brigitte Cartrette I just ordered too!
Really like this review actually definitely subscribing
Thank you!!! I am really glad you liked this. Thank you for watching and subscribing!
I bought one Christmas 2019. Love it!!! Fab lap top machine!!! Great review👍👍👍
Loved this review!!! Best laptops in 2019 so far?
Thanks for your kind comment! I'm really glad you liked my video!!
I've been waiting for this video to get mine
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your laptop!
thank you for the video. HP is replacing my x2 for this because of screen flickering and I'm excited but I saw a few bad reviews on BestBuy related to flickering again. Did you have any issues with this or any other issues after a windows update?
Thanks for watching! No issues here yet
Just got this laptop for my Birthday! I love it! Great review!
When i saw the 13 inch version i just loved it but i wished if it had the primary number keys, traditional ports and dedicated graphics. Now I'm so happy i think I've already decided to buy this 15 inch version. Thanks for the video
Wow thanks i was perturbed by not knowing ehat the light in the left side gem cut was! NOW i know tha ks a lot
Thank you for showing us the webcam quality too!!!
Same as noble neon and thanks! I found this video very helpful!
Thank you for reviewing the Spectre. I bought it last night. I thought it was expensive, but I need a powerful computer to handle the Agency Management System for work. I feel better about spending the money now.
Great review.
I enjoy your pace and that you don't talk too fast.
Very thoughtful and thorough.
Thank you. Subscribed.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for your helpful review. How do you compare the hp spectre with the microsoft surface book. which one to buy. i need 15 inch screen.
I bought this! It was on sale for a great price at Best Buy for 1399.99!
Adrian Perez double check if it was the mx150 or if it was the gtx 1050
Very helpful information... looking at the Spectre for my next laptop... Well done!
Hi, Mike would you buy this HP Spectre x360 or the new HP Envy/x360?
That depends on your budget and what you are looking to do! If you want a powerhouse with better CPU, GPU, and RAM, then you should go with the spectre. If you are on a tighter budget and just need a laptop for everyday use (i.e. you are not an engineer or film maker), then the Envy is a great laptop. I always suggest chromebooks as well because most people forget they exist. If the majority of what you do is just on the internet, they are a fantastic cheap option too. To summarize though, I love my spectre x360 and would recommend it to anyone if they can afford it and have a use for it! Thanks for watching!
@@MikeOBrienMedia is it compatible with windows Hello Facial recognition

I just order mine, I receive it tomorrow...its awesome with 1TB in storage and its a 10th generation icore7, plus I only paid $1600 for it brand new; because, I caught a sale.
Hey Mike, how would you compare this with the Lenovo Yoga C930?
Just saw your video tonight as I am now trying to decide between this laptop or the HP Envy. What are the differences between to two?
Just bought this for college. So excited
Yours is the best review i saw in youtube for HP Spectre x360. Thanks for the video. I hope i will be able to use 3ds max and vray fine in this
Nice Mike, you just convinced me! 👍👌
Glad you liked my video! Enjoy your laptop!!
I think you convinced me on which laptop to get. Good information on the review
An excellent, honest and no nonsense review. Well done.
Thank you!!
I wish they didnt go full Lamborghini on the design.
goat Perfect description
@FRODO SWAGGINS Thank you if they come out with a new one in june-Agust ill buy it I need a new laptop for college
LV style I would say. I thought I could live with it. But ended up returning, could not live with that jewelry-like design, sharp edges and ridiculous top and bottom bezels.
I love that they went full Lamborghini
Well if they don't challenge the design meta laptops will forever look the same.. gotta spice it up sometime..
Very informative,just what i need👍🏻
Thank for the review man. I'm waiting for the version with AMOLED screen (which is supposedly coming next month) to buy it.
Thanks for watching! I haven't heard about the AMOLED screen but this one is already so nice, I couldn't even imagine how it could look better.
Great, definitely getting this laptop
good work
Thank you for watching! I hope you like your new laptop!!
Thank you for taking the time to review this.
You're quite welcome. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on my video!
Thanks but I'm still putting the sticker
would have been nice to see it ;p
Thank you for this review. The best laptop review I have found.
Man you are good. Thank you for a great review
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your positive comment! It means a lot
ive plugged in a mac charger into the usb c port and it charges my 15" gem cut albeit slower because it was the 29w wall adapter, but it definitely charged
Yeah I think you can use the thunderbolt port to charge if you have a docking station as well. I wish they just made the charging port a usb-C though so you had another port on the left side. Right now, if you want to plug in a USB, all three are on the right. Thanks for watching!
@@MikeOBrienMedia Very good and detailed review, thanks Mike! Just want your help with buying a docking station for this laptop, what would be the best compatible one? I was thinking of HP Spectre travel dock or HP Type-C dock ... what do you think?
I almost bought that same one. Depends on what you're trying to do, but that's probably a really good one
as much as I love these HP laptops, the glare is so crazy that I can't see anything but my own reflection just like in a mirror. very hard to work...
Thanks, l just bought this and was worried whether I had made the right choice. Now I am reassured I made the right choice. Does it have a blue light filter? I use my computers at night with the house light off so as to not disturb others so the back light will come in handy.
Thanks for the review!! I've been waiting for months for someone to review this beast of a laptop. Just subbed to the channel. Awesome work!
Any chance we could see some gaming benchmarks? (I know it isnt a gaming laptop, per se, but it definitely can do some gaming!)
Thanks! I was actually waiting for a review too haha but then I just decided to buy it and review it myself since I have a tech review channel. I am glad you liked this video! I don't have any gaming benchmarks for you yet though :( I haven't tried any games on it
@@MikeOBrienMedia Its all good! I'm sure its in line with other laptops of the same spec anyway. Glad you are enjoying the machine!

Great video what is the difference between the 13 inch and the 15 inch
Thank you very much.. i bought this model a week ago and feel that it was expensive then after your review a believed that it worth the money. but regarding the private screen mode i could not find it on the 4k model...or is it only for the FHD model ??
Thanks for watching! It is an expensive laptop, but I think the engineering behind this one definitely shows. You are paying for the performance quality and aesthetics moreso than the brand
Hi I purchased HP x360 Spectre 15 touch with 4k display and it has no sure view privacy screen. Very disappointing. Did you opt in for the sure view integrated privacy screen? I had no such option to chose at customizing my order.

They're both excellent laptops. Personally, I prefer the look and features of the Spectre. Thanks for watching!
This wuld be great for my graphic design.. Probably to expensive for me though haha.. Living in the bay area sucks
Beautiful hp will be my next purchase I really like the design and colors.
Hey what about the expandability in terms of internals? Can ram and SSD be upgraded?
Great video! Just ordered mine 🤙
Thanks for the review, I've been waiting for this one.
Thanks for watching! Do you think you're going to buy this laptop?
mike o'brien outstanding hp spectre x360 youtube video overall 101%. between hp spectre x360 3 sizes 1. 14 2. 15 3. 16 which order is battery life longevity ??? can you list hours of each size ??? i did all my homework/research & did purchase hp spectre x360 15.6" which did arrive today.
It actually can charge through usbc. At 3:35 you talk about the barrel port plug. I just bought a usbc 60W super slim charger and it’s great because of how portable it is, over the stock barrel port charger the laptop comes with.
Best laptop I ever owned and I work IT.
Good to hear!! I agree with you Joey
Thank you for the awesome review, love it!
Did you get this model how is it working for you?
Just bought this badgirl (:

@@ulis8987 it last about 7 hours average but if you tinkle with the battery settings a bit it can go up to 10

SanDisk works best for me
@@MikeOBrienMedia thank u. Appreciate it. Hard drive is 👍.
Can we use memory card or the 13.5 doesn’t have memory slot

Thank you for your kind comment and thanks for watching!!!
Thanks for an excellent review. I just got one and am liking it a lot. The fingerprint reader works fine for me.
Thank you!! I really appreciate the positive feedback!
Is this a good one for 4k video editing ?
I'm pretty sure you actually can charge this with USB-C. It just won't charge as quickly
I'm starting school this week and need a laptop. Would you recommend this one for school work?

Very interested in this laptop. How are the fans with streaming, surfing the net or other light use, do they stay quiet?
You can adjust the intensity in the thermal profile. When you Max it out, they can be pretty loud, but the laptop never even gets warm then
Base on my own experience...NO! Loud and did not even cools down....and eventually DIED.
Get one and see yourself!
