The problem is the rush to lead into these short gravel sections. Why not make a stage that’s all gravel?
Where is there 200k of consecutive gravel? 😂
It's too much of a lottery to have over 150km of gravel. What if Pogacar or Roglic punctures and it loses them the Tour?
It would be interesting to see a video about the team tire choices for the gravel stage. Do they just stick with normal road tires, something a little larger, and/or something with a bit of an edge tread pattern? They’ll need to roll well on pavement, while also having traction on gravel so as not to wash out. Will be interesting to see what they do.
The problem is not the course per se but the impact to the race of cars/motorcycles making it impossible to quickly service a mechanical
Challenging road stages, long and short time trials and high mountain finishes, all add to the complexity & beauty of what a grand tour should be anything less would be diminishing and create a very one dimensional contest.
Gravel racing is exciting and as safe as racing in general. I rode long distance as an amateur working man. I loved my gravel as all around good race conditions. In 80 miles of gravel I got 1 flat at halfway through that road. I got home at 2am and was at work an hour late. As a bike shop mechanic/salesman I was excused the late arrival.
I love the gravel stage, I think it feel like a throw back and huge challenge for a lot of riders. Again great review and in-depth report! Cheers.
Thanks! 👍
I'm totally new to the Tour de France (or professional cycling in general), so please be kind. Where do you guys watch it live? I tried last year, but couldn't find out.
I watched it on Peacock. Not sure if they'll be airing it again this year.
@@tyresejackson9665 Thank you.
@@meghanmacqueen5157 You're very welcome!
@@tyresejackson9665Yes full coverage will be on the peacock app again this year.
The Tour is the pinacle of the racing calendar, everyone who wears the Yellow Jersey into Paris is arguably the top cyclist of the year. Ask a pro what they'd rather win, the TDF or the Rainbow ersey and I bet 99% would say the tour. So they have to be among the best at every dicipline from the season, including gravel or cobbles. That's this Fred's opinion.
So when are they going to ride the track or mountain bikes?
@@ericlehman53 When those become road events, of course!
@@d_charles Gravel isn't road
MVDP or Matej Mohoric gravel world champion should take this one

Maybe they'll add mountain bike trails next...
Gravel adds nothing good to the event. But could destroy some riders tour
