Hi, this question is for Cody. Thanks for pointing us towards this set up! I was wondering (because I’ve heard you talk about Slik tripods) how this set up compares to a slik 734 or 834 with the same va-5 head. Is the Siuri ST series in the same league as the Slik tripods? Do we give up anything going with the Sirui ST’s? Thanks so much for your help - I want to get the best set up!
This is Cody responding back to you. The Sirui ST- 124 VA-5X Kit and the Slik 834 CF Pro with a Sirui VA-5X head would actually be very similar in their performance. Once you add the VA-5X weight to the 834 it will be heavier but the load bearing and stability I have found to be very similar! It's what I like the ST-124 when it came out because it performed similar the 834.
Hi David! Cody Nelson here: I make it a point to bring my optics inside during extreme heat we have here in AZ but I can also say I have never experienced a problem either.
I'm not sure I understand the obsession with tripods. I hunt my own land which has stretches no further than 300m between tree lines in northern Alberta. If you cannot see a deer, moose, or elk with the naked eye with 300m, it's time to see an eye doctor. Raise a set of very high quality 8x binoculars to see details, and then your rifle to finish the job. I'm not sure how a tripod would ever factor into that.
I used to think the same thing until I spent a ton of time behind the glass and actually tried some higher quality glass. If you dont think its worth it, then its clearly not for your style of hunting.
Tricer pan head + Aziak mount gives a nice weight and size savings for a low cost.
LP or BP pan head?
GAME CHANGER HANDS DOWN!
Cody is the man, always great advice and content. Keep it up
He's the best 💯
Have this exact setup. Would recommend 100%

Thanks so much for the response Cody! That’s great to know - just ordered the Sirui 👍. Appreciate that you share your experience with us.
Could this double as a shooting tripod as well? If not, alternatives for a do it all glassing and shooting?
Thank you Cody always great information
God's Blessings
What tripod to bino mount do you use?
Need your advice, I hate pan head would you recommend for very large optics like BTX or big eyes?
Glassing in midwest and eastern timber or other. Tips?
Are you also using thermal imaging?
Storage Inside or in the garage? Does Climate control matter? Thx I don't remember it being mentioned anywhere.

I actually can’t stand my 15x56 SLC’s. Glass looks like crap around the edges, I much prefer the 10x42 SLC’s.

I remember growing up hunting wasn’t a sport it was a necessity. 2600 bucks for a pair of binos lol don’t need to see that fucking good
