Great review! Thank you. I went with the Outdoorsmans and am very happy with it. Super sturdy. I had the Field Optics Research and didn't care for the release mechanism and mine was a little shaky when my binos were clipped in
@@gofish2233 did you have the Gen one or Gen 2 of the FOR Adapter? The Gen 1 had play but the Gen 2 is much much better. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Ended up buying the Outdoorsmans mounts for my wife and I early this year. No regrets. I love sitting down and getting behind glass quietly and quickly. Great comparison!
Great review, thanks for being so thorough. It's good to see the pros and cons between the different options. FYI, on the Swarovski TAs-SLC adapter, there is an adjustment screw at the base of the collet hole; if it were to get a little loose over time, or if the adjustment isn't just right when you get it or maybe you'd like it to have a little less tension when you tighten the cam lever, a flat head screwdriver tightens or loosens the collet adjustment.
Did you get the short or tall Outdoorsmans adaptor? BTW the Outdoorsmans Arca Adapter you linked is now 35$ instead of 20$, which makes the outdoorsman package quite expensive relatively speaking.
Thank for watching and the question! I got the tall Outdoorsmans adapter. I used it with 10x42's, but gives you the ability to use it with 15's as well if you want. Thanks for the update on the arca adapter price for the Outdoorsmens! If I could edit that into the video I would! Yeah, that does make the Outdoorsmans package a bit on the pricey side comparatively.
How is the tolerance of the arca swiss that is on the Field Optics and the Outdoorsman plate compared to the plate that the VA-5 comes with (TY-75A)?? I just order the VA-5 and read arca swiss plates vary by manufacturer. So if you have different brands of plates on different optics you have to adjust the tolerance on the head every time you switch optics.
Hey there! Yeah, the VA-5 head has pretty tight tolerances and I've found that a lot of other brands of plates fit more snug. If memory serves correctly though they both worked on the VA-5. I'd recommend finding one brand of plate and picking up one for each of your optics though so you don't have to adjust the VA-5 every time you swap optics. Thanks for watching!
@Backwoods Pursuit Thank you! I ended up ordering the vortex pro adapter. For plates I order the TY-50 from Sirui and an off brand Amazon one to see which one will work best with the TY-75 that came with the head.
Thanks Jose and glad it was helpful! Most tripods (including the one in the video) come with a quick release plate which you could use with the Outdoorsmans adapter. Most of the quick release plates are on the large side though, so that small one that is made for the Outdoorsmans (link is in the description) is the perfect size for it. Thanks again!
Do you know if the Swarovski SLC adaptor work with the NL Pure model? I know Outdoorsman has a "special" stud that's $30 more than the other studs, curious if you know if Swaro has a factory stud for the Pure to use with the SLC adaptor.
Hey there Marcus. The SLC adapter will work with the NL Pure but you need an adapter like the Epic Outdoors stud, which they made to fit the NL Pure to the SLC Adapter. That's the one I used with the NL Pure and it works great.
