A few notes about the phone mounts you reviewed. Any push-on or clamp-on eyepiece mount that sits above the eyecup will be a problem for eyeglass wearers as they will reduce full field visibility when you bring your glasses to the eyepiece. Another issue is light leaks around your phones camera lens. If there is an open gap between the mount and the phone that allows stray light, especially if the sun is directly above, will cause ghosting, flare or a drop of image contrast. I don’t hear anyone talk about this, but I’ve seen it happen in my own images. I’m also surprised that you didn’t include the Novagrade unit which the one I use on my Kowa 99A. It’s not perfect, but it does offer some advantages. Thanks for putting this video together. The amount of information about digiscoping online is limited and this is a great resource!
Hey there! Thank you for those great points! Yes, those are both very true, and we did notice some light getting between the phone case and adapter if there was a gap, which caused a flare and/or sun spot in the lens in certain situation (with the Magview and ScopeCam...those are the only ones that had a gaps). We tried to get as much of that info in the video as possible, but this one already got very long! Thanks for watching!
Great review Sir. I've been digiscoping for 20 years and have tried many different styles. Currently my favorite is Ollin due to the quickness and easy use. You did a great video.
I ordered my Ollin a couple of hours before I watched your video review. But, I think I made the best choice for me. It is a little expensive, but a friend told me once, "buy once, cry once". It's some of the best advice I have received. Great job on the review!
I got my magview one last year and I’m pretty happy with it the lack of phone case is important to me since me and 3 of my other buddies all just have the metal plate on our phone and any one can use the spotter as we only have one between the group. I also have magviews binocular adapter and I really enjoy having it with me for those quick moments or times when I don’t have a spotter with me! The alignment can be a little tricky at first but I’ve found it pretty easy after using it for a bit.
I have the ollin for my binos. I wish I knew that their phone case for a Samung phone covers the camera light as well as blocks the other lens on the phone so you can't zoom in like normal when not using it on a spotter nor can you use the light on your phone around camp. Seems like something they could easily fix and not cover these up?
@@BackwoodsPursuit probably towards phoneskope, mainly because of the lack of fussing with it. Self-alignment, fit for my old phone, price. If I can find it, they even make an adapter for the otterbox case I already have. Having said tha the Olin looks very nice, I am going to look at that one a little more. After I finish the video later of course. Didn't get to your final feelings.
What a great comparison of these devices, great job as usual! I like the universal ScopeCam, yes it takes more time is a bit cumbersome and takes getting used to but, it also fits binos and you dont a new case when your phone changes! I traded the Magview for the ScopeCam, found it too tedious aligning the picture on the magview.
Thank you! Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for your insight on your experience as well! Each one definitely has it's strengths and weaknesses. Thanks for watching!
I’ve used the ollin a couple of times now. It works incredibly well. I have hunk it probably works the best as a digi scope adapter. That being said.. I hate that I can’t take different pictures off the scope and I have to constantly switch phones cases. I’m looking now for one that isn’t as good as a digi scope adapter but works better off the scope.
Hi everyone, i have a Swarovski AT 80 HD, an older model from the 90s, I'm looking to get an adaptor for my smart phone (Iphone), will the current adaptors work for my older model?
@@jakob6060-r8f hey there! Yeah, any of the universal adapters would work great, and you'd have to contact the brands with specific model options to see if any of theirs would work. Onglass would work great since each eye piece insert fits a size range. You'd just need to measure your spotters eye piece to find which one works. Thanks for watching!
I get terrible soft pics using my phoneskope adaptor on my swaro ATX85 even though by eye the scope is perfectly focused. I tap the screen to get the phone to focus right, i tried adjusting eye relief and using remote shutter, plus i’m on a solid tripod and video head. What am i missing? Do i need a different adaptor?
@Don-kh3ll hey there! Sounds to me more like a phone camera issue rather than an adapter or spotting scope issue. That's a great spotter and should take great pics. Not sure what phone you are using, hut that would be my guess. Thanks for watching!
@ thanks for the thought. I’ll try with my wife’s phone and see if i do better. She has a better camera on hers. I’d not thought of that possibility so many thanks 😀
When using the OnGlass adapter, did you notice any wobble/movement while the phone was in landscape position? It doesn't seem to sit flush like the Ollin does. The OnGlass looks like there's a gap between the phone and eyecup when it's being used.
@Tyanmax99 hey there! Yeah, there is a small gap on the OnGlass (yes, the Ollin does sit flush). I haven't had any issues with it letting light it, but if the sun was just right it could create a glare (I've had the MagView do that). Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I haven't tried that new PhoneSkope system as it wasn't out when we started testing for this review last year. I did see it though and it does look like a nice system. Thanks for watching!
I just received the newer phone skope carbon pro for IPhone 15 pro max. Nice case, not bulky perfect alignment on the 1x and 3x camera. A little pricey but seems worth it so far. I’m selling my Magview and Novagrade tired of fighting with alignment and phone slipping on magnet due to weight. IMO, Carbon pro is much better system then Magview and Novagrade.
My only complaint about Ollin is that it is aligned with the main lens. When digiscoping, I hope to have the option to use 3x optical or 5x optical offered in my Telephoto lens on my phone. For this reason, I'm leaning slightly towards the OnGlass as I can place the magnetic tab towards the specific lens i want to use.
Hey there! I am actually able to zoom into 9.9x with the camera, and 10x with the video camera with my S23 on all of these adapters. Thanks for watching!
Received my phone Skope last week and was a little disappointed. Clip and scope adapter didn’t fit properly, and once I was able to lock it in it was super tight. Tried to lock and unlock hoping the plastic would wear down a bit and didn’t help either. I tried calling them numerous time and no answer until today. They are sending me a new clip and adapter but sadly I place an order in Ollin since they have a 25% off and made a return claim on the phone Skope yesterday.
Hey! That kinda depends on what you are looking for, but our favorite overall was the Ollin (but it was also one of the most expensive and least universal). Thanks for watching!
@@BackwoodsPursuit I went with the new fixed position scopecam adapter, which wasn’t in your review. It’s a bit bulkier than others but seems the most heavy duty, fits the widest range of optics, and is self-aligning. All at a decent price while supporting a small company. I think I went the right route. Ollin would’ve been my second choice, but using a buddy’s I found I didn’t like it much.
@@95toyrunnerI’m about to decide between the Ollin and the Phone Skope and I can’t seem to find anyone who can say what the viewing is like on the Ollin with just the eyepiece ring on the lens. I need it to be good without using it as a digiscope and I don’t want to be removing the eyepiece ring all the time. What did you not like about the Ollin?
Hey there! Glad it was helpful. I'd have to check if Ollin has one that fits the spotter, but if so, that one was one of our favorites. If it doesn't fit and you want a self aligning model, the Onglass is another great option that is less expensive.
My only gripe with the Olin is wearing glasses field of view sucks. Can’t have it all I guess. Other than that it’s the best on the market. The magnetic cap is a bonus👍👍
