Absolutely awesome!! I couldn't stop saying "WOW!" so my wife had to come over and see what was going on. Of course this spoiled the surprise I was planning for her with an old wooden porch chair that needs a whole new seat. That is all that I am doing with that chair and I needed to know what kind of cushioning to get. I would like to add the comment that you make it look so easy, and that is the mark of a true master of any skill. (Should I include "mistress?")🥴
Awww thank you so very much for your kind comment, & for watching my video. That is so awesome that you’re re doing the porch chairs for your wife! I’m sure they will turn out amazing! 💗
The chairs are very cute and the cloth was pulled perfectly tight. I don't know why this always surprises me. I want to try this as soon as I find chairs. I Like to look at my local Brother Charlies or the Salvation Army has really nice items at times.
This is the video I needed to see! I'm about to upholster some chairs and couldn't figure out how to cover the back and found your video... Great job! Wish me luck..😁
They look great! I have never thought about changing the back of the chairs...great idea! Makes them a lot more comfortable. I may have to try this on some chairs I just purchased where the cane is damaged.
Hi Michele, you’re very welcome. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment! Yes, it’s definitely worth a try. I hope you will love this style in your home!💗
Thank you so much for sharing. I have been wanting to update my chairs just like this. I have seen other videos and let me just say that this is the simplest one! I will definitely do this.
Very nice. In the process of doing our dining room chairs with drop cloth well. Only mine are not nearly as detailed as yours. Love the way your chairs look. Thank you for sharing how you did this. Just started my project and am intimidated.
Aww thank you so much! I’m sure yours will look absolutely amazing!! Don’t be intimidated, it’s honestly not that hard to do! If you remember to come back once you’re done, please let me know how they turned out. You got this!💗
Hi Jessica, Thanks so much for watching! It’s really not that hard to clean up the back. I think I’m understanding what you were wondering about. I cut all the trim off of the bottom/sides of the dropcloth. So once I got the back on, I just Hot glued the trim around it so that it would look neat/as if it was made that way. If there are any frayed edges, I cut them with scissors, and then if there were more I **carefully** took a lighter to the strings also. If I didn’t cover what you were wanting to know, please come back and let me know, and I’ll try my best to explain more. Thanks again for watching!💗💗
Fishing line is a great idea for the tufted areas. Much more sturdy than thread! I just picked up 4 chairs on FB market place, and they're actually already upholstered exactly as your finished project. (4 chairs at $75). I plan to remove the old fabric and just use the pieces as my pattern. I appreciated this video! Just wanted to mention... You can literally make any size covered buttons yourself, and it won't cost you a penny. You don't even need a button! Grab a relatively sturdy piece of cardboard and trace a circle on it in the size that you want your covered button to be. Cut that circle out (you can even sand the cardboard circle edges to be sure its perfectly round). Using an awl, or ice pick, or anything sharp and pointed, put your button holes in the cardboard where you want them (either two or four holes). I put a small piece of wood on my table (or floor) and just use a light hit of a hammer on an awl to punch the holes where I want them. Super simple! Place your cardboard button on the fabric of your choice (fabric right side down). Typically, even a scrap of fabric will do. Draw a circle around the cardboard 1/4 to 1/2 inch larger than the cardboard circle, depending on how large it is. This can be "eyeballed" and hand drawn. Remove the cardboard and hand baste your circle of fabric loosely around the outside edge of the circle, but don't knot it or remove the needle. Leave a few inches at the end to be able to pull the thread tight. Place your cardboard button in the center of your fabric circle and pull the thread so that the stitches close around the "button" you created. Make a stitch or two in the back of the new button cover and knot the thread. If you want a "puffy button," add some "stuffing" under the cardboard button before pulling your thread tight around it. I've been using this method for years, and the covered buttons are fool proof, free, and literally take a couple minutes each! No more waiting or paying for someone else to do! Give it a try! Your chairs look great, by the way! I'm about to do the same for some chairs I thrifted on facebook market place, which was what brought me to this video. Great tips to follow... thank you for sharing!
Wow! Good to know 😉 thank you so much for the amazing tip, I’ll definitely have to try the cardboard! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment too. You got a really good deal for your chairs. I bet they are going to look absolutely amazing!! 💗

Hi, I got them from Michael’s. It was the 33 piece craft cover buttons kit. Im sorry I couldn’t find the size, but it’s the pack that’s $9.99. Thank you, & hope this helps. 💗
I just placed the button on the padding, traced the circle with a sharpie, then cut the circle out with an X-Acto knife, then push it through so that it creates the hole. There was no set measurements that I used, I just eyeballed where I thought the tufting would look nice. Hope this helps. 💗
Great job sis! I am about to embark on my first chair tufting DIY and this was a great help. My chairs aren't wood, they're made of an aluminum metal of some sort so that's gonna be tricky but Im excited either way. I'll let you know how it turns out! 🤞
Outstanding job. I am a beginner at this but you mentioned that you had rippers on top after you double the cushion. What does that mean. Did you used bag of batting. Thanks
Hi Wannella, On the first chair, I started with using batting on the seat of the chair, but I realized I did not need it. I did not use it on the second chair. As for the ripples, I believe that is what you are talking about. The foam that I purchased was a mattress topper, so one side has ripples, and the other side is smooth. I wasn’t sure if the side with the ripples exposed would be noticeable on my chairs, so I decided when doubling the layers of foam, that I wanted the sides with the ripples to be facing each other and not exposed. I hope this isn’t too confusing. Thanks so much for watching!💗
Your chairs look amazing! I'm going to attempt mine as I update my dining room. Question: how did you create the lines above and to the side of the buttons?
Thank you! I just cut slits in the padding prior to me applying the fabric. Once you make your cuts and put the fabric just make sure you pull the fabric tight while really focusing on pushing your fabric into the creases. Hope this isn't too confusing. Best of luck, and please come back to update how everything went!💗
@@dancewithtish719 you’re very welcome. The fishing line was used to pull the buttons through and secure it to the chairs. It was stronger than the thread in my opinion.💗
Hi Courtney you did an amazing job and who knew you could use drop cloth as a fabric. How did you know how much foam to cut for the backs of the chairs? Also did your holes just happen to line up with the slots in the natural design of the chair so that when you tied the fishing line it wasn't pulling to the left or right or does it not matter where the holes are cute? I'm planning to re do my chairs this weekend and don't want to mess things up.
Hi, thanks so much! As far as the holes go, they didn’t all match up, some pull to either direction but you can move the buttons to adjust while pulling the fishing line. For the foam, I measured the seat backs and purchased 2 bags of foam. Once I got the first layer on I just sat in the chair and put my back to it to see if it was comfortable enough for my liking, I added another layer. I would just adjust accordingly. Hope this helps, I’m sure you’ll do an amazing job! Good luck!💗
@@cortneyb. hi again, I got scared and didn't reupholster my chairs yet but I have another question... did you use all three layers in the paint sprayer?(primer, brown paint and polyurethane) Also did you find it easier to paint the chairs versus sanding them down and staing them a dark wood color?
@@williamsfamilychronicles5518 hey there, I primed and painted with the sprayer. I didn’t use polyurethane, I used polycrilic and I brushed it on. (I didn’t use the sprayer for that.) For me- and that’s just my opinion it’s easier to sand prime and repaint versus trying to sand and get all of the prior paint/stain off. 💗
how much foam did you end up needing? In the video you said one full size mattress topper and then mentioned maybe needing to buy more? I am about to do four chairs and want to make sure I have an idea of how much to get!
Hi Myia, I used 2 layers of foam on the seat you sit on, and 1 layer for the back part - that your back is up against. Hope this helps and good luck on your chairs!💗
Did you use two layers of foam for the top part of the chair or just one? Did you use batting on the seat of the chair or just the top part? Thanks for posting!

I am/was an actual newbie myself. This video was my first time attempting this DIY. Sorry that you felt I missed important steps, but I was as detailed as I could possibly be-being that it was my first time. I do appreciate your critique & will keep it in mind for my next DIY project.
Hi Cortney, if you have in Houston TX, i need your help to do my 8 chairs made Rosawood. I need them to be like modern color. If so, how much for each chair ? i can send your my email address. Thanks! Shan
Hi Shan,
Thanks so much for watching my video, & thinking my work is good enough to purchase my services. Unfortunately, I do not have a business for reupholstering/refurbishing chairs. This video was my first time ever attempting, and I just do this as a hobby. If you need any tips, I’d be more than happy to try to answer any questions to the best of my ability. 💗
@@cortneyb. I do not have time to make my owner. Thanks!

Hi I’m so sorry I tried to translate it, but I’m not sure if I googled it correctly. I think it says how many buttons did I do? I hope you’ll be able to translate my reply.
