I am so impressed by your steadfastness. If I was in my third day of power outage I do not think I would remain committed to filming. You said you were going to do vlogmas and by golly you are doing it. Watching you and your family cope says a lot about the family dynamic.
I know the power outage has been difficult but spare a thought for all the workers out in the elements working around the clock, fixing a huge amount of damage, removing trees, putting back up power lines, replacing transformers etc. It's a tough, dangerous job and they are brilliant. A team of 60 technicians from France arrived in Ireland this evening to help and I can't tell you how delighted we are to see them!!
I agree with you and many of my thoughts have been spared for them and that’s why I’m not ranting about it and I’m just getting on with things. I’d far sooner be in my dark cold house than out in that weather doing a highly skilled job in horrible conditions. Also we are just 16 homes without power and none of us is registered as vulnerable so we are all happy to wait our turn. I am also grateful it’s a power cut not a flood! So much to be grateful for.
So beautiful to see you and the boys decorating. What lovely memories. They are growing and are so respectful, polite and fun. Such unique personalities. Lovely to see power cuts bringing families together like the old days. Many today would not know how to cook on open fire ❤
I hope your power is back by now. I recently had to look after two older friends after a challenging hospital discharge and we had a 22 hour power cut. Thankfully we did have a wood burner and a gas hob, but it does definitely bring out the resourceful side in us. It eas stew and dumplings for us too. Your boys are a real credit to you and Toby with how well they coped. Thank goodness for those power workers sorting us out.
Just watched days 7, 8, and 9 and had a wonderful time spending time with you and your beautiful little family. Hope the power is all back on and life is getting back to normal ❤ loved Margo’s snoring ❤️❤️❤️
You are coping so well! I was reminded of my old Mum cooking baked potatoes in the embers of our fire when we were little as well as toasting bread over the fire! Happy days. Hope you all got your showers! Love WW xx
This is a lovely post, all cosy with your family. You have the same attitude as me, just make the best of the situation. I call it Girl Guide cooking and it brings back fond memories. X
We have had power outages due to tornadoes and it is no fun in the summer! Glad you have wood stoves to help with heating and cooking!! One thing I do love on the rare occasions we lose power, is the total absence of sound! Such peace!! The ivy looks beautiful!!
I hope your power is back on soon. I used to have a wood burner in my previous house and wouldn’t have thought to cook on it. Ingenious😊 your boys are in good spirits too🥰
Oh my Gayna. I admire your can do attitude. I’d be a puddle. LOL. Your vlogmas videos are getting me through a tough period Also, you are reminding me of my younger self and making me smile. I do admire your spirit.
Last year we spend 5 weeks without power after Cyclone Gabrielle (NZ) hit us. We managed to borrow a generator to keep the fridge/freezers going. We are on tank water so had to siphon water. Lucky to have a caravan so we could shower and use the gas hob for cooking. We were the last in the area to have our power restored because of a road slip and lots of trees down. We were just grateful it was ‘summer’.
Ahhh❤❤ take care gayna,,,,🎉🎉 You are a trooper,,,,, Hooing power back soon,,, Love ur snuggle down cowl,,,so cozy ,,,i made one a few years ago,,,, I must make another one Elaine 🏡💕🥶,,
Takes me back to staying at Buds, cooking toast at the open fire...food on the wood stove, it was always toasty warm. They had one big room that incorporated the lounge, kitchen and dining room, two bedrooms and a bathroom came off the main area. Seeing the deer was so lovely.... your boys are special xx
Hope your power is back on, we went 3 days without power due to a blizzard, rough time when you have a 5 year old to entertain , lots of baking on gas stove and crafts, hubby hooked up generator so the icebox stayed cold, plugged in an extension cord for mini DVD player and kid movies, what we do to survive, we did it
We have many dear here. They are beautiful but create a lot of havoc in our yard. We've built fences but the little buggers manage to jump them. I admire your resiliance in the power outage. Like you, I rather enjoy it when it happens to us about once every winter. We have a wood burning stove so we always manage quite well. Your beautiful family is such a lovely testament to you and Toby. Those boys are the best.
That’s you Gayna, “Keep Calm and Carry on” ! Margo from the safety of the house saw off the Deer 😅 My Dad made us a toasting fork and I loved the taste of the toast, crumpets, teacakes etc we had a Rayburn. Hope it’s not too much longer for power, it’s like camping in your house😅 love & Hugs, Suze. 🏕️🕯️🤗🥰 xxx
Your all coping better than I would. ❤ Hope you haven't got much Christmas food in your freezer. Will you be choosing a turkey from where Ted's works this year? 🦃
By gum……were you in the Girl Guides? So resilient. I was, and I still remember so many things I learned…jacket potatoes in the ashes being one. Get the outdoor fire pit going and the boys would love sausages on sticks. Of course if it is raining that doesn’t work. Hopefully the power outage doesn’t go into day 4. Lovely ivy.
Hi Gayna. Regarding picture hanging, tie the string or wire fairly tightly - I like to have it tight enough to be about a half inch from the top of the frame when you push it up from the middle. Then, measure from that point to the top of the frame on each one. Mark the wall for where the tack is to go, by measuring down from the ceiling and then adding the measurement from the top of the frame to the string or wire (when pushed up towards the top of the frame) for each one. This should ensure they are level. This is how my husband does it, but it does envolve a bit of maths. If you happen to have one of those laser levels, that would save a lot of faffing about! xx
Toby suggested getting a laser level thing. Think I will. I did what you said and it still went wrong for me, think the string had more stretch in it. But I finagled it and they are now both hung and looking fine!
If your power ever goes off again for any length of time, if you cover your freezers with blankets, it will help keep the contents cold. Just leave them closed.
I nearly choked with laughter when you said about Margo “I’ve got my merkin here” hahahahahaha!! . We lose power here in Florida when storms come through and I kind of love the few days of olden days pretend living as long as it’s not stifling heat of summer. Let us know how your dinner came out, did the potatoes burn?
Oh, as i live without electricity or even solar panels, just candles and my trusty wood stove Ms. Goldie, i can't understand people's total dependency on electricity! I really love it without electricity, i live with the seasons and the time of the day..light pollution is one of the main reasons people are getting sick. A tiny power bank, which i charge at a friend's house, is more than enough to charge my old mobile phone 😊
We were pretty content without power and I could happily live like you but I would really miss the washing machine and freezer. I’d live to watch a RUclips of your life. X
@GaynaJane oh, thank you very much. Yes I'd love to start a RUclips channel but unfortunately I don't have a good phone with a good camera...I'm hoping in the future I can afford one, it doesn't have to be expensive, I'm sure there are reasonable ones with good cameras. Yes, I agree the laundry is a big issue but now after years I'm used to it..I need to plan ahead..soak the clothes the night before in hot water and some ash..and next day rub and rinse..I live alone so it's only me.. as for the freezer, I never had one..and now as I ferment everything, I can preserve food for years without it..I even sun dry meat, then fry it in tallow and keep in in big terracotta pots..I use several methods of food preservation from different countries and cultures. Thanks again for your kind reply and words. I do enjoy very much your vlogs whenever I have access to internet. Keep smiling beautiful lady 💚🥰
Gayna, I am amazed with your ability to cook without power and stay positive. I loved watching Teddy help you with the ivy. Lovely boy. Did I hear you say that you don't have poison ivy in England? It sounds amazing - no alligators, no crocodiles, no poisonous snakes. Amazing, As always, I love watching the vlog!
We don’t have gas on our road. Nor street lights. Nor mains sewerage. We run on oil and electric and septic tanks and love the darkness and starry skies. Xxx
Sorry you are without power again, twice this year we’ve gone 5 days with no power once for tornado, second time Hurricane Bert and twice we’ve had to throw out hundreds of dollars of food. That’s why this week we are having a whole house generator installed. As I keep saying getting to old for this crap!!!! Hope power is back soon
Teddy bloody makes me laugh…..gawd I love that boy!!! you stir that stew 😂
He sounds like a pissed pirate 😅🤣

Well I have a charged up phone and still cracking on with living so I’m just carrying on vlogging away and hoping it’s not totally rubbish! Xxx

Making toast with a toasting fork over an open fire took me back to my childhood. I admire your calmness as well 😊
Your self indulgent clips are some of my favorite
Mine too!
Your room looks just delightful with the ivy round and fire on. Hope you’re sorted now and have power back on. 🎄
Just watched days 7, 8, and 9 and had a wonderful time spending time with you and your beautiful little family. Hope the power is all back on and life is getting back to normal

The food of the Gods I think!

@GaynaJane That's why I leave it to hubs! I can never get things completely level and end up fudging it 😂
Glad it's worked out for you in the end xx

I now want to cook jacket potatoes on our wood burner even though we don’t have a power cut😆🥰
Do it anyway! It’s fun!!

First here beautiful Gayna!!! Loving your vlogmas!💚🎄🎀🧣🎁☃️❄️💙

Oh my goodness Ted sounds just like Toby and he laughs like Toby and mad Granny 😊
I think I’d have boiled some water and had a flannel body wash. It’s amazing how we cope when we have to isn’t it. xx
Yep! We have been having Pits and Bits washes.

In a pinch, shake some cornstarch into your hair and zsush it through your scalp like a dry shampoo😊
You almost make me want to trip the electrics but we don’t have a wood burner and there are only so many cold baked beans a girl can eat😂
Yeah, don’t do it!!!!
❤❤❤
I really like what you did with the ivy
Good morning from New Zealand ❤😊
Morning! Hope you have a gorgeous day xxx
Are your stoves all electric? No gas? Back to rustic living for you. Hope your power is restored soon.🤞

Sounds like a good move especially if it’s going to be a regular thing with our crazy weather.
Hi from bristol
If I shout really loudly you might hear me as I’m not far away!
@GaynaJane lol.really go on then
