- Sam (Scott Bakula) leaps into the life of a dangerous kidnapper who is holding a woman and her young daughter hostage.
From Quantum Leap Season 5 Episode 5 'Killin' Time' - Sam finds himself inhabiting the body of a 1950s mass murderer who is holding a mother and her daughter hostage. Sam's predicament is made worse when Al informs him that freeing the hostages will get him killed.
Quantum Leap (1989 - 1993): Former scientist Sam Beckett finds himself trapped in time due to an experiment gone awry, leaping into the body of a different person each week. Al Calavicci, at first known only as The Observer, is Sam's holographic adviser -- he provides Sam with some details about his new identity and gives him guidance on how to help the people affected by his presence. But with little memory to help guide him, our hero is forced to bluff his way through many a wacky situation.

Captain Jonathan Archer was no match for Captain James T. Kirk and Sam, Al, Ziggy & Gushy were no match for Uncle Jesse, Danny, Joey, DJ, Stephanie, Aunt Becky, Kimmy, Michelle, Steve, Mark, Robin, Ervin, Tyler and Vanessa
What year is set in
I can't remember for this episode, but I believe it is supposed to be around 1962. The future where Al takes out the guy with the dart gun is supposed to be like the year 2003 and this was one of the episodes from the final season which was 1993.
