Vanessa. I’m a longtime fountain pen lover but I just found your site and enjoy it very much. I agree Gena is the real deal and she has done a few nibs for me. However my latest purchase is the Estie Back to the Land in Funky Lake, pump fill with Journaler nib. Can’t wait for it to arrive. Keep up the good work!🖋️Brad✒️
If you think I will like it, you are absolutely correct! I have a Gena "Journaler" nib on an o/s honeycomb Estie. The nib does lay a lovely subtle line, which I really like. I also have a stub nib, which performs very well and which I like. Yet, the narrow, sub-like quality of the Gena nib is somehow intriguing. I feel another Gena nib coming on! By the way, I got a serious crick in my neck trying to see your handwriting right-side-up. I have clinical dyslexia, so I ask politely if you would please film the writing page right-side-up? ☺☺
@@pengangsta Good news. Thank you. I am only just beginning to watch your reviews, so excuse me if I am behind in your development of style. Your reviews are very good, and I look forward to more of them.
Wish I could see the writing! On phone turning it just rotates. Or have to lock rotation then remember to unlock. An overhead shot right side up or still imagine of writing sample held for awhile at end would help. Just nitpicks maybe helps production process not annoy too much. :-) (The music levels aren’t ducked under the narration so really hard to hear the commentary.)
"Captain...there's a new nib in Gangsta space...I suggest we check it out. "Lets do it...Scotty, all engines stop, Spock you're with me."...."facinating".
I love that tanzanite Estie, I actually would really like to get it, but I just can't pull the trigger because it's 200€ more than the regular models. Is a shimmery barrel worth 200€? I don't know. Will I be able to resist? Who knows 😂 The nib is really nice but I haven't seen it yet at my usual resellers though.
It’s really nice and I know some people are having trouble justifying the cost of this Estie. The DiamondCast material though is really something special since it has real diamond dust in it! The production though to make these pens are intense, from what I understand, which is why the cost is a bit more. They are very limited in production too. With those details and the fact that the pens are really, really gorgeous, I think the cost is worth it-and I agree, it’s pricy! But I do love all mine!
I wanna make the jump and purchase my 1st sparkle however I'm on the fence on what colour I have a seller here in Australia that has the blue and red but I'm like which one curious what colour you like a bit more and why I'm like maybe red but its a big jump for me price wise and I wanna make the right choice as see in person isn't something I can do as interstate I asking as you seem to have very similar tastes to me since your a pink rose gold girl and since you have them all would just like your opinion plus the seller is selling these with the journaler's nib so I'm super pumped :D
That’s tough because they’re both beautiful! I guess you have to ask yourself if you like cool colors or warm colors... the red’s shimmer seems to show up more, but the blue has a very beautiful understated sparkle.
This nib is not an oblique nib, it’s just a special grind intended to write with a ‘vintage’ feel like the old Esterbrook nibs. I would expect this nib to perform normally regardless of the user is left handed or right handed.
Vanessa, are all those three Estie Sparkles yours? Wow, I only have my favorite Montana Sapphire one. But the other two are just as great. I’m liking the Journaler nib quite a lot. Saw another review last week. This nib would be very cool for my Sparkle or the Honeycomb Oversize and the Ebony Estie. I suspect it may just fit into some of my beloved vintage Esties, too. Thanks for bringing this interesting new nib to light.
Glad I read the comments first. Vintage Esterbrook pens and nibs I find interesting and useful. The new cartridge -- converter pens and nibs? Not so much. The nibs don't fit the vintage pens, and no adapter to get them to fit. (tho there is an adapter/replacement section to fit vintage nibs to the new pens.) As for the pens themselves ... thanks but no thanks. I have no need of another cartridge -- converter pen. I am convinced the 31 cartridge -- converter pens that I have now fill that "need". The 31 I have now combined cost the same or less than one new "Esterbrook", depending on the model. Another person stated "...the new Esterbrooks are overpriced." From what I've seen, I must agree. (and a couple of the new Esterbrook are expensive - over $100 - and downright UGLY.🤢🤮) I'll stick with my lever fill double jeweled made in USA "J" pens with a Rigid Extra Fine and Firm Fine nib installed.
These new generic pens labeled Esterbrook are decent $ 75 pens overpriced. I'd hope this young lady would someday try a true, vintage Esterbrook and come to understand why Richard Esterbrook became the number one seller of pens/nibs and then fountain pens in our country. They were not pretentious 'play' pens for what passed as yuppies and dilettantes like today, but true working pens that were an amazing value, especially considering the 33 interchangeable nibs on their fp's.

I only filmed the writing sample like this that one time and I haven’t done it since. It was a bit awkward for me too.

I definitely want a Journaler nib. I think I like it better than the stub nib.
Nice pen, thanks

Thank you for answering my question. I was looking at Esties online today and thinking: "What the Hell is a journaler nib?!"
Hahaha!!! Did this help at least? Watch out though-once you get into specialty nib grinds you’ll start watching more!
@@pengangsta Yeah, it definitely helped!
It really like your writing desk. Is that vintage?
No honey, it’s Amazon! Hahaha!

How do you think this nib would work for a left handed person? I couldn't get a good enough look but is it oblique?

@@pengangsta Thank you for your reply.
👌👌👌
Is that a real gold nib or just gold color on steel? Are they expensive & will they fit the vintage Esterbrooks?
It’s just a steel nib with a special grind on them. I don’t think these could fit the vintage Esterbrook pens.
@@pengangsta don't they have an adapter?
@@stargazer1359 They have an adapter that allows you to use vintage Esty nibs with the modern pens, but not the other way round.

Yes, they’re all mine!!! I couldn’t resist having the entire set!
@@pengangsta that’s why you’re so gangsta.
Hey Vanessa! 🐦. Are these regular #6 nibs? Do you know where they are for sale, if so?
Yes, they are #6 nibs. Fahrney’s has them as a nib choice for the Esterbrook pens.
@@pengangsta not for sale individually?
Star Gazer I don’t think so, although I wish they did sell them individually.
@@pengangsta Thanks, Doll. I didn't think so.
I just bought a Journaler but with the Back to the Land pen on the Esterbrook site. They are the only site that has the Journaler and Scribe.

Man the music gets really really annoying!
Maybe if the guitar was in tune.
