He'll remember that for the rest of his life. This is a style of fishing that's been passed down for generations over centuries. One of my favourite videos on the internet. Good job, little guy.
@daydream Looks like they wound a bunch of finishing line around some kind of warped stick or bow so that the line stays taut between the two ends of the bow. At first I thought it was a string tied to a handsaw, like something the kid made while sitting there bored. Like when I was a kid fishing with my dad I'd always get bored, get a stick off of a tree, & tie a length of fishing line + hook to it. Then I'd try to catch fish with it. However in the video I realized it's not a handsaw but some sort of bow or warped stick. I wouldn't say it's flimsy but I'm not sure the reasoning behind it. There's no reel or anything. I've never been ice fishing, is tying a fishing line to a bow a normal thing in ice fishing? I guess you wouldn't need a mechanical reel when ice fishing since you don't need to cast the line or anything. You just drop it the hook & line straight down in.

@daydream fishing line isn't weak....it can hold a curtain amount of weight especially when ice fishing.
Even the seagulls start going crazy the very moment they see the fish
