    当時、八つ山橋から見る景色は東京タワーの全体がみえるけど、今は一部分しか見れないのかな?33年も経てば、大きいビルが建ち並び、風景も変わりますよね☺️

    Somehow I find Tokyo during mid 80's up to early to mid 2000's comfy

      Yeah, I think I know what you mean. I imagine the change is at least partly due to the Internet. Before, you needed to go out to interact with people - now many people do that via their computer screens and don't go out unless they need to, so the proportion of people out having fun and people out just working or whatever has changed - there is now (I think) a higher percentage of people outside because they have to be, not because they want to be.

    Hi Lyle, awesome video! I'm sorry I couldn't get in touch with you last year when I went to Japan. I'm actually coming back though in a couple of weeks, would still be nice to maybe hang out if you want to. :)

      That might work out - it depends on the exact date(s). My schedule is pretty complicated at the moment - but there are some open spaces in it where I could get out for a beer (Yurakucho maybe? - or maybe Shinjuku...?)

      Is there any good way to contact you outside of RUclips? I'd love to talk more if you wanna maybe figure out a time we could meet up and get a beer when my friend and I are coming there :D

    What was the cost of a Appartement back then?

    • @lylehsaxon
      @lylehsaxon  5 лет назад

      It varied a lot - as now - depending on the area and the size, etc. What's different now isn't so much the price, but the type of construction. Tatami mat apartments were still most common then, now more and more apartments have no tatami at all.

      @@lylehsaxon Thank you for answering! So i assume the median income was pretty much the same, the Yen is incredible stable. No wonder its a top reserve currency

    • @lylehsaxon
      @lylehsaxon  5 лет назад

      Yes, prices have been quite stable. Apartments have changed in many ways though - they used to be mostly be tatami mat, with closets (needed for storing bedding) and you had to buy your own AC unit, cooking stove etc. New ones generally don't have tatami mats any more, but also tend not to have closets (or have very small ones) so people tend not to have much storage space. In 1984, a small can of drink from a vending machine cost Y100, not a larger bottle of drink is typically Y150, but the same thing is often sold at grocery stores for something like Y90.
