Not written by woody. He did record it. It’s much older. Traditional folk song. It’s about a boy and a girl not a girl and her father. In many versions including woodys I think the response to the questions are provided by the girl. Papas gonna shoe my feet Moma’s gonna glove my hand sisters gonna kiss my lips. I don’t need no man.

The song is actually called “If I Probe False to Thee”.

It's very hard not to see this song as a typical Hollywood homage to paedophilia
It was originally written by Woody Guthrie in the thirties.
Guthrie was working entirely on commission at this time due to his heavy family commitments. The American interest in paedophilia, which is well attested, was almost always disguised by portrayals of loving innocent relationships between father and daughter - Guthrie had two at this time, and he is also known to have had some erratic sexual habits, particularly in later life.
If I’d been these two performers I would have refused to record this song.
It’s hard to understand why this post has chosen this particular song from the album when there are so many better ones. If I was RUclips I’d want to have a look and see!

Interesting. The Browns’ bluegrass version offers a different take: a man asks the question as he is either off to war or is being called away to a foreign land.

I don't know about Norah Jones but Billie in an interview openly said that he is totally against pedos.
