Hi Alex, I will be back :) we had a baby back in March so I haven’t had much time to sort the garden out. Plus the weather this summer has been rubbish so I haven’t had the motivation to keep on top of it. The videos will be back if we get some nice weather this autumn :) thanks for your support!
A little steam outline locomotive using the Phil Sharples 0-4-0 chassis could be a good challenge? A Bagnall style saddle tank maybe? The scratchbuilt diesel has turned out great anyway, nice work
That would be perfect Tom. I really fancy something like that. A steam outline loco is high up on the list. Watch this space :) a Bagnall saddle tank would be perfect
Hey Josh, hope all is well. Just wanted to say that your Washing Line was a big nudge and inspiration to me to finally build something in my garden. It was proof a garden railway doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive or dominate the entire space! I'm still subbed in case of any update, but no hurry, I know life with a toddler can be tough. Thanks for sharing your projects with the world!
Hey there. This comment really touched my heart. I’ve decided to try and get myself back on RUclips because of it. I’m so grateful that you like the videos and you’ve built a railway for yourself. Family life is busy and we are now expecting twins next year, so be prepared for more videos of the railway as I wont be going out much! All the best Josh
@@joshw6226 Thanks for the reply and congratulations! I built so many models when my daughter was an infant because she needed near-constant holding to sleep the first few months... sleeping baby in one arm, painting or building with the other. Something worthwhile to do and keep me awake! I'm still working on the permanent way but I built a loop of track that I can bring out when I want to run, which can become permanent once I've finished the raised bed for it. Always more digging to do though, and that's a bit tougher to do while keeping the baby from eating the grass. 😁 All the best to you and your family, and I look forward to the eventual return of the Washing Line!
How do you feel about a 4 wheeler bobber caboose? It's a copula caboose used in the USA. They were used on everything from main line to narrow gauge to logging. They were used to mark the end of a train but on other operations like logging they were also used as offices. There are many pictures on line. Check them out and see what you think.
Just stumbled over your channel. Instant subscriber😁. I don't have my own railroad. But one day i hopefully will. My suggestion for a scratch build would be something bases on Bachmanns Davenport 0-4-0. It's so cute.
Congratulations , I hope you ,your wife and new baby are all well. Looking forward to any future updates from the washing line. You have inspired me. Have subscribed Josh , as I`m planning to try my hand at this myself. Much to learn , as I know very little about railway modelling.
What an adorable little railway, I always prefer the smaller and more customisable layouts, have you looked at railroad models uk, theres a few card kits for quite cheap prices 😊 and pretty good quality as well 😀
Hi there. Many thanks! I have indeed. I started to build the Vale of Ffestiniog diesel but haven’t got anywhere to run it as it is too large for my railway.
Love it Josh. What a refreshing change to see something realistically priced in regards to a G scale railway. Everything G scale is exorbitant in this country, so you've got to scratchbuild. I'm in the process of moving mine into the garden shed, with a view to going into the garden at a later date. Mine will have to be an end to end though, not enough room for a loop. If you want ideas about stuff to make check out( ub railroad al anza - check me out) on youtube he's an american guy but he has some superb ideas. All the best, keep the vids coming. Gav.
Thanks Gav! Cheers for the tip I’ll check that channel out! All the best with you Railway. I know the feeling of space constraints. I stuck to one side of the garden and quickly realised I’d have to cut a hole in the shed to make a loop at each end 😂 all the best with the build. J
@@joshw6226 I've run it 3 times now. The last time was trying to chase it back and forth on about 9 or 10 meters of track sitting on the ground and it was quite dusty. I need a circle of track that is about a 3 meter radius and radio controlled! Hopefully that will happen soon. And I'm waiting for some ready to run rolling stock soon. Cheers! Tim
Hi Josh, I’m in the catch-up stage of watching your videos, and enjoying them thoroughly. I’ll be hitting the ‘subscribe’ button shortly. I’m also in the planning stage of building a basic garden railway. I’m sure you’ve mentioned these points before, but may I ask which track you’ve used and which turnouts, to maintain the continuous loops? TIA
Hi there, I use track from Cliff Barker (he has a website with plenty of options.) it’s great stuff and compatible with Peco too. I use Peco points but I have taken the spring out so that they move freely. When a train runs over it it will run the opposite way on the return run so I don’t need to intervene. Works nicely for me :) best wishes , Josh
Just brilliant - einfach genial! I only wonder if vegetation's willing to restrain itself alongside your tracks. I always had to fight leaves and roots back... And as for socks in sandals - I'm perfectly fine with that... *g* Ich bin gespannt, ob sich die Pflanzen freiwillig zurückhalten - ich hatte immer mit Blättern und Wurzeln zu kämpfen. Und Socken in Sandalen sind doch ganz normal... *g*
Nice to see trains running with a proper braking facility (mind you I’m GWR biased haha). I would suggest to add some more interest to the loop, a small resin castle or something like - just a suggestion :) Keep up the great work, Alex 🙂
Sounds like a great idea Alex! I do really fancy a centre piece in the middle of the loop but not sure exactly what yet :) so glad you’re enjoying the videos still!
That would be great! Once I’ve finished my Faller-bash I will look at doing a steam outline 0-4-0. I’ve lacked the confidence to do one just yet but I am building up to it now :)
Ah yes. All very much a work in progress so far. The garden slopes down quite steeply there so we are going to put some slabs down and then the ballast to keep the track high and the weeds at bay. I think I will need to dig the existing stones out to make way for the slabs as I’ve probably rushed it a bit without thinking of the weed control. Watch this space :)
Hi Robert, I know this may sound tantalisingly tease worthy, but I did cut the grass and unearth the railway the other week during that period of good weather! Then the weather turned rubbish again so I never got anywhere. I’ve found that I no longer have any working locos, so I need to sort that out. Ive brought some of the hand built stock into the house to avoid any damage from the cold air in the shed, so the intention is there to try and get a train running when the weather comes back. Stick with me and I’ll be back this summer (or before!!) I’m sure :) really appreciate the support mate!
Hello! We had a baby back in March which has taken up most of my time (priorities ha!) I am hoping to get back into it soon as the railway is overgrown and needs a tidy up. Watch this space for a come back and thanks for your ongoing support :)
Hi there. I have removed the spring from the points so the train runs through them and holds them over each time. Video due shortly with some further details :)
God that looks fun. Well done on the layout and the scratch building.
Thanks very much! It’s very fun indeed (when it’s not raining haha)
Can you do a washing line railway update

well its not a caboose and westinghouse air brakes so i have no idea
you could try a freelance saddle tank of some sort on an 0-4-0 chassis

how about a simple steam engine? I would like to see one.
whats the plan with the division between the grass and the track? The grass will try to grow through the gravel.
Which bit specifically please? Sorry I can’t think of the top of my head :)
