I bought this one for my GF so she could do her work from home stuff on something better than a chromebook. 24inch monitor and mechanical keyboard and she was set.
Where these HP EliteDesk 705 shine is when you use the Linux operating system Batocera for Emulation. Batocera is constantly being upgraded by that team, and the level of performance you get is absolutely amazing. Wii, Xbox, Playstation, I hear that with the new upgrade it will even play many PS2 games which is pretty cool.
I have the 35w version of this system with a 2400GE, and I'm very surprised at how well it runs switch emulation, especially with the newest improvements with Yuzu.
Very nice, runs the low detail games like Fortnite fantastically but obviously slows down a lot with the prettier stuff. Can't wait to see some emulation stats!
The average temperature I have is 58 degrees and when I try to play Minecraft, GTA IV or similar games in the minimum resources it usually rises to 85-87 degrees and minimum resources I don't know what to do to solve it
I don't recall you ever mentioning Renewed/Refurbished, but it is, right? I just got one for $105 (Sold by Newegg, but shipping from some refurbisher). Same as you, the listing said R5 PRO 2400GE (35W), but they sent one with R5 PRO 2400G (65W), and a single 8GB 2400MT/s DIMM, and no 2.5" drive bracket nor WiFi card. 256GB SK Hynix PC601 NVMe SSD had 1.25 years of power-on hours and 13.5TB written. It's definitely used, with scratches and what not. I'll grab another 8GB DIMM to get it to dual-channel. The worst part is, it came with some no-name brand 90W power brick. No efficiency rating. Not UL listed. I'm not comfortable using it, so using my own (Targus branded, UL listed, Efficiency level V). I'm using it as a mini home server, so the built-in Windows license is meh.

Is your Unit the 35w version or the 65w one? Considering it has the G version. I have the GE version which on the back says 35w, and I'm thinking of upgrading to the G version, I'm not sure if I can do that though, I know I may need a higher wattage charger.
I'm debating whether to get optiplex 5055 ryzen 5 pro 2400g or 9020 i7 4770. sadly the 2400g doesn't support 3200mhz . for games, the only game i play is LoL TFT and sometimes emutaor to play jrpg. Mostly use my pc to work with Illustrator & photoshop. if I get the i7 surely will turn it to hakcintosh . Any recommendation .?
Does your rig have 2 8GB sticks of ram? I ask because a lot of these are sold with 1 stick of ram and therefore, you are in single channel which is about a 10% performance hit. I have a 705 G5 with a 3400G and Vega 11 - I'm hoping for slightly better results, but I won't be trying anything beyond PS2/GC level games. You can add the missing ram for about $35. Cheers!
@@infernelu I'm still a noob and just learning about all of this stuff. I'm currently looking at the 705 g4 or the 800 g4 for $50 more. Not entirely sure what the differences are and if it's worth the extra $50.
No this would be worse than a 5500U. it has an 11 core Vega Graphics Chip but it's deceptive. it's Vega, but Vega on Global Foundries 14nm Process. The IPC difference is massive between that and the 7nm TSMC from the 5500U. so the 5500U's 7 vega cores clocked at 1800Mhz beat out the 11 vega cores clocked at 1250Mhz on the 2400G here by a decent margin. Another major difference is ram speed support. the 2400G/E taps out at 2400Mhz DDR4 on a system like this. the 5500U can do 3200Mhz. RAM speed dramatically affects the performance of these iGPUs.
I'm confused, your unit is the G model but only utilizing 25w but the ge model is the energy efficient out of both and it utilizes 35w. I think there is something wrong with your unit?
it seems the motherboard is not really letting it use the full 35W. I have tried to adjust the settings and there are no options for it in the bios. the chip works normally on a normal ATX motherboard so im guessing the system is just designed to set a hard cap at 25W.
@@EVOTech1 Your model is the G model it's suppose to utilize more than 35w while the 2400ge model is the energy efficient which is capped at 35w which is why I'm confused with why your model is only using a max of 25-27w. Something is up with your particular model
Unfortunately not. The bios for the motherboard was not updated to support it. A 2400g is about the best you can put in there. I’m not even sure if a 3400g is supported. 4000 and 5000 series for sure isn’t.
It's the 65W HP Power supply. but ofc also 90W and 120W are working. The plug is the same as for many older HP Laptops (not the blue one, but the black bigger one). All power adapters from Elitebook 6400, elitebook 6910, Elitebook 6930, Elitebook 8440, Elitebook 8470 and so on working perfectly.

The discrete graphics card (AMD RX 560 4 GB version) that fits the small white board to board 80 pin connector that sits in the SSD bay is available on ebay and Amazon as part number(s) L35096-001 or L21472-002 for the 705 G4, but should work on any unit with the the connector. You will have to sacrifice the SSD tray, but then you can game! This gpu only fits the 705 G4 and maybe the 805 g4 units not the Intel based 600/800 HP models.
@@esaedvik There is a custom 560 for these but they are way to expensive. You take out the 2 1/2 Cage and over toward the CPU is a small custom PCI-e outlet.
APUs work differently than regular graphics cards. They are designed to dynamically adjust their availability VRAM as they see fit. This has been covered extensively since the launch of the RYZEN based APUs. Hardware unboxed has covered this before. They have done tests showing there is no difference in performance from allocating 512mb or 16gb.
