  • Hello! In this week's vlog our narrowboat is moored up in Marsworth and it's insanely beautiful?! We prepare to bunker down for a big storm, but eventually the weather clears up into something quite stunning. Also featuring: strolling around Tring, a book festival and some books I'm reading, thoughts on being newly A Bird Person, fireworks, and boat admin with a quick stop at the poopy cupboard for a pump out (keeping it real etc etc).
🍲 Here's the recipe for The Soup:

Where the houses are next to the facilities at Marsworth there used to be a cement works that made pilings for the canal. In the 1960/70s it made coloured slabs for gardens and was owned by a man called Alf Marshall. My father did all the electrical installations for the new machine and Alf part paid him in slabs, so we had a multi coloured patio and flooring in the house

You recommended the book "went to London, took the dog", by Nina Stibbe, and I think that would appeal (either in this video or the previous), so I'll return the favour and recommend "Under a Summer Skye", by Sue Moorcroft, the first of a trilogy.
Thanks for sharing your first year with us - we love your photography and music choices. ❤

You are so right about birds. I am blessed with Honeyeaters, magpies and Kookaburras each morning and evening. It is so beautiful to listen to them go on for hours on end. During the day, a flock of Rainbow lorikeets move in with their cheeky antics and its like having 200 budgies just outside the window, because there is. Young people don't know what they're missing, but then again maturity brings wisdom. Thank you for another excellent video. Cheers

Your vlogs are truly great for me also a bit sad. My dear old dad saved up to buy himself a narrow boat then lost the courage to use it we discovered he had Alzheimer’s such a cruel blow, like yourself he saw the world through artistic eyes all he wanted to do was cruise the waterways. Broke my heart when i had to sell his boat.

I love your videos. the vignettes that you show are just amazing. It is a reminder to me to find beauty in everything, slow down and enjoy the cobweb in the morning dew, and the tractor in the field. the boat looks amazing, is there a chance of a tour, would love it.. also another book vlog would be cool. Just reading 'life on the golden Horn' letters from Mary W Montagu as she travelled through Eastern Europe in the really 1700's ..not my normal read but very interesting

Totally agree with you on the Nicholson guides they are boring we have always used Pearson’s Guides and they are so informative. We are currently using their Four Counties and Cheshire Rings Guide and there are pages of great photos and 6 pages at least of historical info on the Stoke on Trent area and a couple in Stone. The maps are not entirely to scale but it does give you key pubs and supermarkets plus local butchers and bakeries

I have to say having always been a home-body, preferring quiet times at home with a fire if it's chilly, and all the other home comforts of cushions, books, hot drinks, cold drinks etc....to suit the mood & climate outside - I would enjoy an occasional travel in a narrowboat home to a new, interesting location, but without all that locks business, which to me completely takes away from the sheer pleasure of the freedom of this life ! So I think I would find a canal that has no locks between 2 beautiful destination towns or villages & confine myself to puttering around between those locations, stops for 1 or 2 weeks at a time, or whatever the max is ! Now that sounds like the perfect life !

There’s a cheeky little woodchuck who lives under my shed and eats everything I plant…no matter what precautions I take. Doesn’t seem to like hot peppers though. Looks lovely where you are. I would definitely get gloves specifically for the pump outs. Yuk! I know boat life. Be well and let us have more videos please.❤

    Another Great video ❤.
I used to Love the harsh weather when I used to be a HGV Driver and had to sleep in the Lorry ! I think it comes from my youth and when we went Camping ( night fishing or just a few friends out for a laugh ).
Never did the real camping but being in a Tent being battered by wind and rain never really bothered me 🤷‍♂️,good job really because later on in my youth I was in the Army,so getting cold and wet was pretty much the norm lol 😂.
I know Tring and it is a lovely place, pretty amazing when you consider not far from there you have Aylesbury and the difference between the two places is pretty Stark ( Aylesbury in my opinion is a Dump and extremely shady ).
Myself and my Girlfriend aren’t Narrowboaters ( can’t afford that lifestyle though £ and because we are Carers too 2 Of my disabled adult sons ) but I do follow your channel for Tips on nice places to visit ( we get Saturday off and we like gentle walks ) and the canal system is great because I am disabled myself and walking on the flat is preferable.
We do like the Seaside and in particular Great Yarmouth but unfortunately it’s become a little bit of a mess and dump these days ( They used to have lots of little B+B’s down the lovely clean Side Streets and some of them were so pretty but unfortunately they have been closed down and either converted into cheap flats or accommodation for other people from outside of the area ).
It’s not a very safe place to be in anymore either, with the rise in crime and women being harassed all the time.
Your Cat is Lovely and yes I think she could definitely do with a Grooming session lol 😂.
It looks like you have either been using her for cleaning up any cobwebs or she has been out galavanting around on Halloween night hehehe 😝.
Thanks for your great video work and the beautiful way you capture the natural beauty of everywhere you go ….. I am trying my hand at camera work ❤

    • @krisatomic
      @krisatomic  23 дня назад

Thank you for your lovely comment!
Matilda is always mysteriously turning up decorated in cobwebs, she sometimes shimmies down the side of the washing machine into the void around the water tank/water pump which I think might be the culprit. A few times we thought she'd got out and we'd lost her because we had no idea where she went!
Funny you say that about Aylesbury, while we were in Marsworth we were considering taking a jaunt along the Aylesbury arm to the basin there, but we googled it and it came up as being The Worst Place To Live in the country, voted by people who live there. Which dampened our enthusiasm slightly. Maybe another time!

WOW...I'm so in love with y'alls videography and editing skills - BBC/ITV worthy abilities! About becoming a bird watcher...I find living in Nature is the trigger. I'm so much into bird watching I listen to the bird song when I'm out and about and respond with 'hi mom Cardinal' or 'hey there wren' or 'Yo titmouse' and finish with 'thanks for the visit and come back soon.' AGREED about those '5% moments' in Nature, I've had a few [one was when a F1 tornado suddenly appeared out of a thunderstorm and rolled over a group I was in. When I got home and went to take a shower, I found leaves beneath my underwear stuck to my gluts. I was so shocked with wonderment at how they got there - gobsmacked - I about fainted]. Enjoyed the video - thanks for sharing! Be well - many blessings. Cheers...
