Hi Cassie!😊 "Opie Taylor" refers to the role Ron Howard played when he was a little boy on "The Andy Griffith Show" in the 60s. Some other very good Wesley Snipes films: "New Jack City" (1991) and the Blade Trilogy starting with "Blade" (1998).😉
This movie was made during a time, when two on two games were really popular, and it attracted money and sponsors. After a season or two, the trash talking, loud insults, and the occasional fight broke out, freaked out the money people, and the money withdrew, back to quiet and safe venues.

A classic comedy that came out I was 8. Woody Harrelson & Kadeem Hardison were tv stars on NBC (Woody on Cheers and Kadeem on A Different World). And it was a reunion with Kadeem and Cylk Cozart, as they appeared in Spike Lee’s School Daze. The chemistry between Wesley & Woody was seamless and it worked. They’re still friends to this day. SN: Keanu Reeves & Denzel Washington were the original choices before Wesley & Woody were cast.
Opie Taylor is the character that director Ron Howard played as a child on the Andy Griffith show when he was still an actor. He was a fresh-faced, red-haired kid, so a lot of redheads and strawberry blond guys get called Opie.
Back in that time, you were only allowed to win 5 Jeopardy! games in a row ("retiring" after the 5th win), and typically they film 5 episodes back-to-back on the same day. So Gloria probably won all her money that day (or on two consecutive days). I think the implication is that she won the maximum 5 games in a row, so she was done -- although if she did win all 5, she would probably be invited back at the end of the season for the Tournament of Champions.
Wesley and Woody first met on their first movie, Wildcats, a sports film starring Goldie Hawn. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was Jimi Hendrix with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, two white Englsh guys. Only one album had a black rhythm section.
Hendrix was discovered and managed by Chas Chandler. The bass guitarist in the Animals, an English band from Newcastle. So the whole Hendrix Experience was put together and created by a white dude.
@AdeboFunkyVoodoo After Jimi came up through various bands in the US like The Isley Brothers. Race is a tricky thing with Jimi. One the one hand, he didn't really care about other people's color, but he was affected by those who cared about his.

You should watch “Money Train”. Woody and Wesley did 3-4 movies together in the 80’s and 90’s and this one and Money Train are the best ones. They were like best friends in real life. I think they’re still cool today.
From IMBD: When Woody Harrelson was making this movie, the producers hired Bob Lanier, the retired Detroit Pistons' center, as a basketball coach. Harrelson, who had played some basketball in college, was bragging to Lanier about what a great player he was. Lanier invited Harrelson to play a little one-on-one. Harrelson later described it as "the most embarrassing fifteen minutes of my life."
Not surprising. Every pro athlete was a star on their high school and/or college team. You could put the college national football champs up against the worst team in the NFL and they would get slaughtered.
This movie came out when I was 10 and I had a crush on Rosie Perez for a while after😂 Coincidentally, now that I'm older I realize her name was Gloria Clemente and I was living in a city called San Clemente... weird!
In my head canon, Gloria never came back. She lost her Jeopardy money, became embittered, and went to New York where she changed her name to Muriel and married a cop.
Nah. Gloria worked too hard to mess up her money. She opened a nail salon. One of her clients was high profile and hooked her up with a date. She ended up marrying the guy. He's in real estate. Two kids and a dog.
PIB and White Men Can't Jump....I've officially come full circle and seen everything.....but seriously, this movie is so quintessentially early-90s that its actually crazy
I know it's not technically a Basketball movie, but I COMPLETELY suggest that people watch AIR. I couldn't believe how good that was. It was about shoes for God sakes! Unbelievable acting. Fantastic story telling! I have seen it so many times, and I'm not a fan of Basketball
Billy : It is hard..God damn work..to make something this pretty-ah, look like a chump or a geek. So I must be doing it for a reason. 💪 Alex Trebek : The all time leader for rebounds in NBA history. Sydney : Chamberlin. Billy : Wilt the Stilt. Gloria : Who is Babe Ruth? 🤣
That's just how men talk, my best friend, also my roommate, got into a massive fight to the point we separated ourselves to each side of the house still yelling but we were both tired so we ended it with "fuck you, I love you asshole, goodnight" and all I hear is "fuck you, I love you too, night jackass"
The insults are exactly who we guys are around each other. One of my favorites is "Dude, I know 5 fat people and you're 4 of them". We talk crap to their face, but talk nice about them behind their back to others. Women are the exact opposite. Talk nice to their face, but rip them apart to other women.
MOVIE SUGGESTION: The extended director's cut of the 1994 action film "Leon: The Professional," which was Natalie Portman's first film. But brace yourself for that one, Cass. it is not for the faint of heart.
I hope whatever you're going through or have been through you get better soon. This is one of my favorite movies. Used to rent it all the time. Or at least it seems that way considering how many times I've seen it
One of my all-time Favs of the 80s, (Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing".is another that parallels, in certain aspects, "White Men Can't Jump"). .This movie is a bit deeper than what appears on the surface...I wrote a college paper on the juxtaposition of general stereotypes of the 3 main characters. Love seeing this again, Thank you!
Nice reaction - Ron Shelton was a fixture in the indie 90s landscape, known for his breezy slice of life sports comedies, often featuring career-best performances from his stars - most famously Bull Durham, w Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins - also see Cobb, Tin Cup, and Hollywood Homicide - other great sports movies include Bang the Drum Slowly, The Boxer, He Got Game, The Natural, Chariots of Fire, Bend It Like Beckham, Whip It, Girlfight, Fighter, Raging Bull, Wrestler
Wesley Snipes co-starred with Patrick Swayze in Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar. Also, Woody was in another basketball movie called Semi-Pro, with Will Ferrell.
11:04 Man this actor playing the store clerk, he looks so much like my grandfather that they could've lied and said that they were brothers and most people would've believed it. From their faces to their skin color, natural red hair and freckles. The resemblance between them is so crazy. Lol, and funnily enough, I also have a best friend who I've known since 5th grade who looks like wesley snipes too. I used to always tell him that when we were kids. 😊
As good as the two male leads are in this, Rosie Perez stole the show for me. Gloria would drive me nuts, to the point that I'd likely be banging my own head against the wall after half a day with her, but my oh my did Rosie play the character to perfection.

Gloria steals the show in this movie.
So freakin true. “Letters dat start wiff duh letter cue” and “Let’s scrue” are two of my all time favorite movie quotes. Ingrained in the brain.
🤣🤣🤣 then got greedy anf bamboozled yet again...🤣🤣🤣
@@chapo0815 , she was smeckledorfed!
Starring Ben Affleck. Might as well throw in his 2020 basketball movie The Way Back.
@@osmanyousif7849 That was a GREAT movie too. I think he was an alcoholic in that one...(in real life too)
Billy : It is hard..God damn work..to make something this pretty-ah, look like a chump or a geek. So I must be doing it for a reason. 💪
Alex Trebek : The all time leader for rebounds in NBA history.
Sydney : Chamberlin.
Billy : Wilt the Stilt.
Gloria : Who is Babe Ruth? 🤣
Their first movie together was “Wildcats” a High School football movie with Goldie Hawne.
Diggstown, it is like ROCKY meets Con men. Great movie you will love it.
I've been recommending that movie to her on Facebook as well.
@@manuelvillacana9284 THank you I appreciate the support. I have been recommending it for over a year.
+2 for Diggstown
Also a good way to honor the memory of Louis Gossett Jr
"Raymond, is that you?" "Nah, it's not Raymond"😂
That's just how men talk, my best friend, also my roommate, got into a massive fight to the point we separated ourselves to each side of the house still yelling but we were both tired so we ended it with "fuck you, I love you asshole, goodnight" and all I hear is "fuck you, I love you too, night jackass"
What I never knew I needed: Cassie rapping Basketball by Kurtis Blow.
The insults are exactly who we guys are around each other. One of my favorites is "Dude, I know 5 fat people and you're 4 of them". We talk crap to their face, but talk nice about them behind their back to others. Women are the exact opposite. Talk nice to their face, but rip them apart to other women.
"You should take all those bricks you're throwing and build a homeless shelter. Give your mom someplace to live." 😆
I met Cylk Cozart once at a Walmart in Tennessee. He could tell I recognized him and took a few minutes to talk with me. Genuinely a nice guy.
Smack talk is a huge part of sports. Most athletes will say the mental state is much harder and more important than the physical part.
MOVIE SUGGESTION: The extended director's cut of the 1994 action film "Leon: The Professional," which was Natalie Portman's first film.
But brace yourself for that one, Cass. it is not for the faint of heart.
You're right. It's for everyone.
This movie is a legend. My favorite basketball movie. And it came out when I was in 5th grade... special time in the 90s
now I want a song for every single movie !!!! go gurl!!!
"The Sixth Man"(1997),"Sunset Park"(1996) & "Coach Carter"(2005) are great 🏀 films I believe you'll like as well
I hope whatever you're going through or have been through you get better soon. This is one of my favorite movies. Used to rent it all the time. Or at least it seems that way considering how many times I've seen it
This my all time favorite movie. Its just a wholesome to watch it, every time.
@Popcorn, thanks for this amazing comedy with a lot of heart, the chemistry between Woody and Wesley is undeniable. I hope you feel better and better
Wesley Snipes co-starred with Patrick Swayze in Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar. Also, Woody was in another basketball movie called Semi-Pro, with Will Ferrell.
Semi-Pro! I forgot about that movie. Thanks! Hilarious film!
There's a lot more substance to this than the usual funny buddy flick/sports flick. Always thought it was underrated.
Great chemistry between Woody and Wesley. In Midnight Run Robert Deniro and Charles Groden have the same dynamic.
Look at you throw in movie quotes outed people. Following you long enough to remember when you knew hardly anything about movies other than as you stated happy ones with happy endings. It makes me happy to see how well you have done. It's clear how much hard work you've put into this channel so you deserve every bit of it.
I actually saw this at the theater with my Grandma when i was a teenager! And i grew up playing street Basketball the trash talking never stops 😂
Im 45 grew up in the bronx. This is a classic joint here. Yo mama jokes were big growin up. Wed be at lunch and making up yo mama jokes the whole time. Trash talk is a part of basketball and inextricably so.
I'm white grew up in the suburbs, and yes trash talking is just part of basketball, at least when you're winning.
My favorite Rosie Perez movie is Fearless. (1993) also stars Jeff Bridges .
Cassie rapping lil bow wow is something that i never knew i needed 🔥
Kurtis Blow right??
Hello! I truly recommend some interestnig films: „No Country for Old Man”-2007, „Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”-2006, „Collateral”-2004 „Vanilla Sky”-2001 „Frauds”-1993.
You also saw Wesley Snipes in Major League. He was Willie Mays Hayes
yes!!!!! one of the best
Gloria thank you for explaining.
The song you sing in the beginning “basketball” is by Curtis Blow.
"You mean play basketball?" Best line ever.
you said "Dear Heavens" lmfaoooooo
Another good sports movie comedy is Wildcats from 1986 with Goldie Hawn, and very young Woody and Wesley. There are a few others in there, but I can't remember. It's a football movie and it's very fun.
Man, me and friends used to play ball to this soundtrack. First R-rated movie we ever snuck into.🤣
