The female team lost in the final, so the male team was the winner and should have debuted. It was overall a huge waste of time and energy for female contestants (I don't keep up with male trainees), as we can see here. Compared to other shows it didn't boost popularity even of the top20/15. So at the end of the day, Dreamcatcher girls retiring without wasting time and energy was a good thing. They wouldn't have got much in return even if they could advance to the final rounds, as the other girls didn't.
I'm so proud of everything Loona has accomplished especially when YG made a point to shit on their concept and plans to debut solo, the pre-debut project is arguably what made orbits as devoted as they are to them and now they're on Queendom 2

The biggest problem facing Mix9 besides poor promotion was the fact that The Unit was on at the same time and it seemed like Koreans were only willing to support one survival show (Unit had much higher ratings.) Sadly there was almost no anticipation to see the winners debut.

It was so exciting to see these very talented girls who missed their chance come together and debut, and I thought they were gonna rock the kpop world. But unfortunately due to S.Korea-Japan political issues at the time, her debut was postponed and she release 2 singles as part of Her CEO's monthly project instead.
