Rally used to be such a buzz for fans and media. Its sad to see its downfall now.
Yea you could run in front the cars and not get hauled out by the police
@@derrickstorm6976 I remember almost being hit by a car as my dad dragged me across the track so we could get a better vantage point. I don't think there was a better vantage point than being almost able to touch the car!
Lucky enough to have helped with delivery of the Rally News Bulletin
The golden age.

The cars were so cool, nothing like this in America. Us Yankees looked at these ecobox cars as slow and cheap. Little did we know, the motorsports with them was way more impressive than any stock car race..
Such a shame they cancelled Group B. Was there anything else that could have been done?
@@MSJChemA sad demise of the greatest formula of cars.
Thanks for the upload.
Brilliant video, thanks for putting this one up too. I'm going to get some Salonen style glasses 👓
Theme tune giving me goosebumps.
Jessica by the Allman Brothers. Fantastic song
Actually makes me feel a bit sad. I really want to go back to those times. Rally report was so good with William!
Back when Top gear was actually good.
It's never been the same after night stages were scrapped.
That tune at around 16 minutes. Bassist knows his way around a fretboard. 🎱
Keep them awesome videos coming. I've a load of video cassettes from my camcorder that need brought to life
please digitize them and upload them to youtube!
Cool to a couple of "Gentlemen Racers" in this rally. The one team of 50 year olds with their own car, killing it. Very expensive hobby, but once in a lifetime job!
Top vid m8!! I'm in Kendal not far from grizedale didn't go to see the group b cars ! Was into darts aswell at the time .and we saw all the cars the spectators leaving the grizedale rd Jcn on the a590 must of been thousands in there ! Went in 93 though and saw the late great Colin macrae so glad I saw him rally unreal talent ! Made a lot off the others look slow through there !
I was there at the start that day, working for bbc radio 👍
Fantastic!! As usual, cead mile buiochas 👍
The Ford's, Lancia, Renault, and Audi cars sure did dominate! I like the lower power cars too. Dig the Mitsubishi and Toyota, Ford's there too. Why I love hatchbacks and small, high revs, and loud compact mid size cars from all generations
Renault???
The Good Old Days!!
Rod Millan in his RX7 ,one of them was 4WD with 323 struts and hubs up front lol piles of logs on the sides lol
Thanks for that, we followed the event in an ex-Police Granada :-) Floods caused a diversion in Wales. Any chance you'll be uploading the 1980 RAC? Can't find a comprehensive report of that one.
It's not on my list for conversion at present, I have to say.
@@VHSRallies Ah, pity. Still, thanks for all the others.
Top shelf 👍🇬🇧
Note the length of the rally. Today's WRC rallies are a far cry from this.
Yes, a definite marathon compared with today. Better? Who's to say...
@@VHSRallies
It is closer to the original idea of rallying, so I am all for it ;)
I may have a thing for endurance rallying...
6r4 sounds immense
Flying down gravel.county roads in a sports compact or "rally car" looks like slot of fun. There should be local events everywhere, people can build a competition car with less than 200 hp and be fun. Rally and rally cross should HUGE is America ..dunno why it's not
Killed Everything.........
Pretty surprising impressive cars. Not easy to race let alone win...
Im laughing how professional all the staff looked back then, the ladies who were responsible for the Admin work in that office all wearing blouses and skirts lol nowadays most of us girls wear leggings and flip flops how lazy we all have got since the pandemic lol
15:25 - Russell Morgan, father of current BTCC star Adam!
Jessica may be a legendary theme tune, but it HAS to be Jewelled for rally footage!
Propaganda deffo yes Loved the montages TopGear used to do with that tune and rally footage.
@@edgarbeat275 I read the comments hoping somebody would tell me what I was thinking of. Propaganda!!
Cheers.
Thanks Dave. Jewelled was the remix then.
Definitely. Jewelled every time 👍
Tony Pond finished 9 minutes behind Salonen, but had 4 punctures costing 3 minutes each at least. Just sayin"...
Debut for Lancia Delta S4❤️🇮🇹
You're a year out. Delta S4 debut was in 1985.
@@VHSRalliesYou are right. Excuse me.
Best drivers Finnish the race instead of just finishing it.
Real cars 👍
Stone Age Top Gear lol
