    Been battling with that awful seam the whole week - your video is a game changer, thank you ♥. Will be starting a beanie tomorrow so please wish me luck. I popped over to your site and had a look around and see you are in Nova Scotia. I have just come back to Cape Town after a six month visit to Mahone Bay and surrounds. I would have dearly loved to meet you and take you out for coffee or a meal. I have used your videos and tutorials so many times xx

    Mikey, I have been crocheting for 55 years and I thought I was the only one who did the spiral for hats, because I too really, really, really hate seam lines. However, I always ended up with the seam line until I finished increasing because I could never keep track. Now I feel really silly that I didn't think about making a stitch marker. Such a simple thing, but it will change the look of my hats forever. Thank you, Thank you. BTW, I love, love, love your Facebook group, the Crowd Stitch Social. (facebook.com/groups/TheCrochetCrowdStitchSocial/) What an amazing bunch of crocheters. I've been on a lot of crocheting groups before, but yours is the best.

    Hello, my first time to watch. So glad I did. What a SUPERB to for getting rid of that annoying seam line. Btw, it annoys me as much as it does you. And we are NOT weird, goofy or crazy. We are FASHION CONSCIENCE and care about how things look and also want our creations and final pieces to reflect WE CARE about our work. Some call me OCD, fine. I have been my whole life, BUT not with everything. I'm fun, down to earth, intelligent, confident, secure being alone at 66, and fairly happy most of my life. I have always taken pride in what I make since I was young. It had to be perfect. Yet it never is, but I'm human and try hard!! It really bothered me hearing you down yourself so much...STOP IT!!! I don't know what u look like, don't care. The important thing is the confidence you have within and a good, kind, caring heart toward others. Look... You posted a video!!! Many people can't or are afraid to do that. So be your fun self, no more negativity (because negativity BREEDS negativity). Tell yourself you're fantastic everyday, hold your head high and own it. You will see a huge change in your life. Thank God every morning you wake up and for blessing u with talent and skills. Thank you for the great tip. I've always wondered how to fix it. Now I know, thanks to you. It only took about 55 yrs...lol. See all the people who have been waiting for YOU to help them fix it!!! Enjoy life!! Blessings and wishing u much success!! L :). P.S. Besides crocheting and trying harder things, I'm a newbie quilt designer and love doing it! Hope to be recognized for my work, even if I am old! And write children's stories, but not published yet.. Another goal I won't give up!! Use your talents and skills to the fullest!! God bless!

    How do you get it to not show the seam when you change colors? I do my hats in the spiral like this but when I change colors you can see where the new row with the new color is shifting up above the last color and it bugs me just as bad as the full seam when you slip stitch.

    So, I did what you directed here, but only marked the last stitch with the same marker on each round ...why keep the marker going throughout the project? I suppose a trail,. But just marking the last stitch in each row worked for me. Anyway, Mikey, you solved a dilemma for me! I've been working it into my newborn hats that I'm donating to children's' hospitals now. They look fantastic because of your technique. Thanks!

    Thanks, Mikey. I tend to do the same thing for the same reason! lol My question is...
    When you get to the end of the round and need to work into the "next stitch", do you go into the one preceding the post (right of the post) or the stitch that is the completion of that first post? Even crocheting for almost 20 years, I've never been sure which is actually the correct spot to work into when spiraling!

    I HATE seeing where the slip stitch comes in. I wish I would have found your tutorial about 18 months ago. I have made over 200 beanies for a children's hospital-it was one of the things I could just sit at home and do rather than go out among people not following the COVID protocol. I will have to watch this video a few times as I start another hat. I haven't even tried to donate them yet, but it's nice to know that we might be getting back to the normal we knew 18 months ago. I still prefer a mask even though I've gotten my shots. Thank you for this tutorial, I just wish I would have found it quite awhile ago because I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and there's nothing that bothers me more than not be able to create something and have it not come out how I want it. I just watched someone else's way to eliminate the seam, but your method is far superior to hers. Thank you again!!

  • @Cindy1956ful
    @Cindy1956ful 8 лет назад +1

    Here is what I do to avoid seam lines. I put the required number of DC in the ring. Slip stitch to join. Chain 3. Skip the first stitch and put 2DC all around. When I get to the end, I put 2 DC in the slipped stitch on the row below it, then slip stitch and chain 3. I repeat. On subsequent rows, notice where there are 2 DC in one stitch. Put one DC in spaces where there are one, and two DC in spaces with two stitches in one. When you get back around to the slipped stitch put one or two DC in it in the row below, depending on what stitch it ends with, one DC or two in that stitch. You will still get the line, but it will be on the inside of the hat and the outside will be invisible. You will not have a seam.

  • @oobiedoobs

    Quick tip for that Magic Ring: once you reach this point: 3:06 pull hard on the hook to tighten that stitch. That will lock in into place and once you close the Magic Ring it will not come undo again.

  • @sdmcdaniel2255
    @sdmcdaniel2255 5 лет назад

    Hey Mikey, I have a trick for you to lock that yarn tail in place, no need for a darning needle. Once you have pulled it as tight as you need it to be, take your hook and stick it INTO the closest stitch to your yarn tail (going in between the V at the top of the stitch). Push your hook down through the stitch, YO with your yarn tail, and pull it back up through the stitch. You then simply crochet over it for 3 or 4 stitches. You can do this more than once, if you choose. I usually do this 2 or 3 times over subsequent rows. I guarantee you, it will lock that yarn tail in place, and it won't budge. Even just doing it once will lock it in place, but I like to do it more than once for good measure.

    There's no need to remove your hook to place your "stitch marker" yarn. Simply lay it between your working yarn and the hook before you complete the last step of the last stitch. (The same point where you would switch yarn when changing colors.) Then complete your stitch.

  • @cat4068
    @cat4068 2 года назад

    And for patterns that alternate stitches, like a front loop, back loop, and then the next row is back loop, front loop. The stitch count is always even, I like to improvise with an odd stitch count that way you don't start and end with the same stitch, because that can also stand out.

    Interesting way to solve the seam line problem. How would you do this technique if your pattern has an edging or different pattern for the base (bottom)of the hat. By closing up your spiral you now have an additional three stitches. I know if the pattern is divisible by three it won't be an issue, but is there a way to make it work if it's not? I've been watching your videos and following you for years. You are a great teacher and have helped me improve my crocheting skills. Thank you so much for your time and effort in making these videos!! God bless you.

    • @HighTideSoaps
      @HighTideSoaps 7 лет назад +3

      Replace the final three stitches that the original pattern calls for with the hdc, sc and sl st? That way you have the same number of stitches and not three additional ones. (Does this make sense? Maybe when I actually go to make it I'll find out I'm totally wrong! LOL!)

    Ok I like this idea but for the hat I am wanting to make does not agree with this way as mine is with a chain 3 at beg. Of rows and double crochet increase around. How can I do it this way like the tutorial? Please help ASAP.

    Can I use this technique on a sweater that has no seams? It is worked in a round, something like a tube. I am very unhappy seeing where the round has ended and see the diagonal "stripe" .

    I'm making beanies for the men in my family and they like the single crochet look. Is there a way to even out the end of the last round? I'm working on one now trying it without doing the sl.st. and chain 1 and it looks like when I come to the end it's going to be "uneven".

      Then you would have to do it conventionally.

    Will this also work when starting the opposite way? like with hats that you close up at the end?
