Nippy is by far one of the truly greatest singers that we have ever had on the planet.Singers like Aretha and Mina have loved her-and singers like Mariah Carey and Monica Naranjo have idolized her. This was a sweet video. Whitney had a very humble side to her. Ms. Aretha and Whitney are two of my favorite singers. Whitney and her baby girl are together again. May they rest in peace.
reina lee At least Aretha was 76 when she died, she fought cancer for several years. Whitney screwed up her body with alcohol, drugs, etc. They found all kinds of crap in her system documented in her autopsy report.
Nielsen Makaba She was clearly talented but I personally don't feel that THING.. that THING that I feel when Whitney opens her mouth. I'm sorry lol I just dont. But with that being said i LOVE many singers but i feel that same way ABOUT THEM as well i like listening to them but i dont get the same THING that I got fro Whitney. Whitney grew up hearing a great singers like Aretha and has stated on many occasions but long behold little whitneys voice was the national treasure of all voices. And everyone knows it! Including Ms. Aretha. I'm not bashing her in anyway. I love Ms Mariah Carey and many others as well. But THERE WAS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT WHITNEY. AN angel no doubt kissed that girls throat/voals/ voice something.
Barbara Streisand ,Stevie nicks ,Minnie Riperton and yes Aretha Franklin are better vocalists in my personal opinion .doesn’t take away from the fact that Whitney was amazing but I honestly don’t find her voice the best at all ! She had genius star quality and charisma that was unrivalled and was true performer but all these ladies I have mentioned have an equally if not more beautiful voice .Barbara Streisand’s voice is literally perfection, so effortlessly beautiful .i guess at the end of the day it’s all subjective , within the talent there’s gonna be different opinions on the rating of the talent
These two ladies were completely irreplaceable. The day each one of them passed, the world became a poorer place. I feel blessed to have grown up with their music, because nobody since has come close to either of these ladies and I doubt ever will. Rip Nippy, Rip Aunty Ree. Gone but never forgotton.
..." I will always love you" was written and sung by Dolly Parton ... it was already a big hit when Whitney Huoston decide to sing it...the freshness of her voice and her very pretty look made the song a world wide success...and we will always love her...RIP
Yes, we all know Dolly wrote and sang the original, but Dolly herself said it was "Whitney's record" and she turned it into something else completely. It wasn't just her "pretty look". Whitney had an incomparable singing talent and THAT is what capitulated that song into the stratosphere.
4. Whitney was ALWAYS VERY complimentary of Aretha. In Aretha's position, I would be glad to have such a great vocalist mention me so much. Sometimes, a person is wise to say, "Thank you," and nothing more.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Whitney fans are threatened by Aretha and are projecting their own insecurities on Aretha. Also understand that Aretha is the benchmark that all great singers are measured by. Case closed!
@@brokeaf4209 Whitney is also in a class of her own. And she's a pioneer who helped open the door for many black women to have great crossover success in pop music. As much as I adore Aretha. Most of her praises for Whitney came after she died. Earlier on she said she didn’t know Whitney felt as close as she did to her. Make that make sense. why do people compare legend woman singers but not male singers as much. Aretha was a historical singer, by the time Nippy came on the scene, Ree was 30yrs in there.
I disagree with Aretha about Wendy Williams. Wendy loves to gossip and although she spoke the truth on many occasions, I believe her intentions were coming from a place of gossip more than intervention in terms of how she spoke on Whitney Houston...just my opinion.
J Crash....l am an old school...and l know Aretha was the one to beat.....and God sent Whitney.... Whitney had the best voice l have ever heard! She sang effortlessly.... and still had more wind to blow.... Sorry Aretha... Whitney was the Voice for all women to try and come close to.
+I Spy...this is my take on it. Whitney had an amazing voice but she also kind of sold out to become super famous and crossover to the mainstream. She sang very "pretty" and "polished". Whitney was told early in her career by her record company to abandon her gospel roots in order to became famous. I'm not hating on it...just telling the facts. Aretha did some pop stuff too in the 1980s...but the majority of her career she stayed close to her gospel/soul roots. Aretha had that deep soul/gritty/raw voice. Does that automatically qualify Whitney as a better singer? Everyone has to decide that for themselves. Aretha didn't have the most "pop"/"mainstream" kind of voice and I respect that she didn't try to completely alter herself to fit in (even if she could have made more money).
+Renee Dreams But it just wasn't about the voice though as far as Whitney was concerned. It was also based on her looks. She also pretty and thin. She had a package that Aretha didn't as Aretha pretty much battled with weight problems most of her life. I agree with you about everything else though. The other thing to note on top of what you said is that Aretha never conformed to whatever genre she sang; she made the genre conform to her. Aretha, in essence, was a gospel singer who brought that style to whatever she was singing. She infused it in every genre whether she was singing blues, jazz, rock, and even when she sang the opera selection. Now anybody else doing that would probably be laughed off the stage but it is Aretha. She has a way with a song no matter the genre.

When Aretha was young she had it going on, when one gets old one looses everything if you don't know how to take care of it , Aretha was good in her day, Whitney was good in hers, when old age hits ALL have to sit down !!!!
That's not true about old age Some older people can still blow! But you're right....If one knows how to take care of. I think black Gospel and R&B are probably two of the hardest on vocals.
Not so Lisa and Sarah, it all depends on how you live your life and what you put in your body. You cannot fill yourself with alcohol, tobacco, drugs and other foreign substances and expect your body, your instrument to perform. I know many powerhouse singers well over 50 who can hold their own and produce sounding great, at mid 60s I’m still lead solo and actually my voice is stronger now than in my 20-30s. Aretha was one of them, Tina Turner’s best was late 40s thru late 60s, Gladys another, Yolanda Adams 40 yr career did the 2020 Super Bowl, blew it out, Celine Deion, Stephanie Mills, Dorinda, Karen in their mid 60s and Jackie 70+ Shirley Caesar is 80+ can still singing and recording and blow very well, some other 50-60 year olds, Tamala Mann, Kelly Price Sinach, and CeCe Winans around 58 yrs old, new release is the bomb and the all look great for their ages. Take care of your body, your temple will take care of you and you will do well.
There's so much shade in Aretha's comments that it got dark over here in MY house. Notice how she hung on the "Cissy was a very old (pause, pause, pause) friend of mine..." Anyhow, let's be real about a few points (1-5 below):
Aretha and Whitney are my favorites always have been. Aretha is the Greatest vocally though. Those runs and riffs, just the technique she has. #TheQueen #TheVoice
aretha was very cocky and wrong to think she was better than Whitney. I just can't understand the parts when she says Whitney had success "over night"... ??? I mean, I know Aretha has been around for aaages, but Whitney build up her success from 1985 and became a legend with her sucess in and through the whole 90's decade. I wouldn't say "over night".
Juan Willians when your second third and fourth single all go to number 1 you are an overnight success. There are singers who never get a number 1 single that early in their careers.
I don't think she meant it negatively.., I think she meant that a talent like Whitney's was loved and recognised the moment it was heard. Of course she built up her reputation behind the scenes but her first album was a smash.
I agree, Miss Franklin. From the 80's on, Whitney was the best singer. She was also the prettiest. I believe that Rachelle Ferrell could've given her a run for her money, vocally, but unfortunately, she was "too black" for the mass audience. Whitney's key techniques and _skrengths_ were hitting & holding long powerful notes, flowing in & out of different registers, effortlessly and maintaining great stamina. A lot of the sistas in the 80's had po' stamina. Sistas would get winded and start going flat by the second verse. Anyway, Rachelle indeed has those techniques and _skrengths._ Perhaps Rachelle's music was too mature and r&b. Whitney was a clean singer. When Rachelle sings, she _getsta_ twitchin' her face up and carryin' on. Sure, anybody can work out if marketed & promoted properly, but DAMN! I also agree that Whitney had a twinkle in her eyes/smile. It was plain to see. It's so nice to see you be nice to an artist because I've seen yo' track record and chile... You done dogged out dang near ½ of the damn industry.
Well I think Whitney was becoming and then became more popular in the 80s than Aretha. At the time, although Aretha was enjoying comeback success with some hit songs like Jimmy Lee, I Knew you were Waiting, Another Night, and of course Freeway of Love, Whitney was fresh and new and was bringing in another element of sound. Also Aretha's voice at the time was not top notch due to the effects of smoking.....causing more haziness or raspiness in her upper registers especially. Despite that, Aretha survived magnificently for a 60s soul artist. But I think popularity and a clearer voice doesnt necessarily make Whitney the better singer. Whitney's vocal tone was definitely better though. Also, I tend to measure by age comparison because it's more fair. Age matters on the voice.
Rachelle is a completely different kind of singer. She's a jazz singer at heart with classical training and gospel roots so her scat and improv vocals take more focus.
A big part of Whitney's success certainly had to do with her god given gifts but if you don't have the right engine behind you, you could very well be singing in your living room. She had Clive Davis behind her in very much the same way Diana Ross had Berry Gordy and Mariah Carey had Tommy Motolla. And yes, because the public also listens with their eyes, Whitney, being as thin and pretty as she was, would certainly get more attention (she was also younger). Aretha, by contrast, had always been battling with her weight. She was also past her vocal prime (as many had stated). However, what I loved about Aretha was she was always Aretha, no matter the genre. She was unapologetically a black woman. She never diluted her gospel soul sound in order to sell records. Whitney wouldn't come to this conclusion until she got with Bobby. This would be right around the time she recorded the duet with Aretha Franklin, which was really her first foray into more black-inspired music as opposed to the pop stuff she had been doing. I'm not sure which 80's artists you were listening to but I can tell you that Stephanie Mills, Jennifer Holliday, and Patti LaBelle are just some of the few that would refute your claim that they had poor stamina. Jennifer was singing on Broadway. You know how much stamina you need to sing the way she did several nights a week? And Patti had the lungs of life! No one was beating Patti back in those days, not even Whitney. The difference was what you said about Rachelle Ferrell and that is that Patti and the others mentioned were too "black", not just in their sound but also in how they looked. It was a sad and unfortunate truth, which is why many of them got nose jobs back in those days; anything they could do to appeal to a white audience. Again, Whitney, like Diana Ross and Mariah later on, appealed to that demographic.
Yes it was. She was virtually unknown until her appearance on the Merv Griffin show in 1983, and then in less than two years she was topping the charts and living the jet set life. Her ascent was very fast. Overnight, as it were.
@@cush6827 Whitney began her training in the church at 8 years old, and then began singing professionally at 12, doing jingles, background vocals in both studio and tours. By the time she got on the Merv Griffin show she had put in a whole decade of solid work, and even afterwards it would be an entire 2 years before releasing her own music.
Whitney's overnight success wasn't the problem. She had had a tumultuous violent filled marriage. A drug problem that started way before she was even famous in her teens. A family that really didn't look out for her the way they should have with too many family problems and issues. And the world constantly berating and coming down on her shoulders. Who wouldn't be overwhelmed ?...RIP whitney

I miss Whitney Houston being here on Earth So much!
Two women who changed the Game....my two favorites of all time...#Whitney Houston/Aretha Franklin/Barbra Streisand...my personal vocal Trinity
I love that. The three of them changed the game.
Nippy is by far one of the truly greatest singers that we have ever had on the planet.Singers like Aretha and Mina have loved her-and singers like Mariah Carey and Monica Naranjo have idolized her.
Mina said about Whitney ...
"I want to keep her in my memory as I see her: tall, beautiful, talented beyond measure. I don’t know much about her life. But I know everything about her music. An angel who sings like that should have had something that sometimes seems an unattainable prize: a self-aware existence, a happy life.
*“She really invented a way of singing, by no means easy, that they all tried to imitate. She became the touchstone, the litmus test, the model. Untouchable.”*
Mina is a phenomenal singer.Genious recognises genious. That's all.
Mina is AMAZING! It’s a blessing to have known her music, as well as Whitney Houston!
Whose Mina
Randy Rose Greatest selling singer in Italian music history. In her prime, Mina Mazzini was a mixture of Madonna and a soul diva from the late ‘50’s to the ‘80s.
She is unbelievable singer. And what a voice.
vgly trvth exactly. Admired is a more apt description. That’s how Mariah has always seemed to expressed it in interviews
I love Mrs.Aretha, she did Whitney's legacy justice,respect and due diligence ❤
Rest in Paradise, Whitney and Aretha! Thank you for the amazing music and legacy both of you have left behind! You will always be loved and remembered.
What a beautiful tribute to the great Miss Whitney Elizabeth Houston by the great Miss Aretha Louise Franklin!!!
Her tragic death was and still is painful, but the great thing is her legacy will remain for generations to come. Decades go by and people worldwide still trying to sing like Whitney.
Whitney you are the best of the best. There will never be another Whitney. Only two people make me cry ,Whitney and Alu the two GOATs.
This was a sweet video. Whitney had a very humble side to her. Ms. Aretha and Whitney are two of my favorite singers. Whitney and her baby girl are together again. May they rest in peace.
Very good interview!!!
Aretha!
A very wise woman.
Think about the hits and not the misses!!
She summed it up
That first interview, she was actually nice and humble then, shocking.
Cool video idea, thanks.
Thank you no name. I think Angel is just trolling.
Aretha was like a second mother figure to Whitney! It was amazing to see how much they respected each other! Their iconic music will live forever.
Can't believe their both gone 💔
reina lee *_*THEY'RE_*
reina lee At least Aretha was 76 when she died, she fought cancer for several years.
Whitney screwed up her body with alcohol, drugs, etc. They found all kinds of crap in her system documented in her autopsy report.
Love Whitney and Aretha❤
reina lee i know right. I took a minute for me to actually realise that's true
@@AndySaenz don't be disrespectful
Aretha is a great singer hands down. BUT no singer on this earth can compare to WHITNEY she truly had a god given gift. And that is a fact!
John Palermo aretha also has a God given Gift....one that Whitney was in awe of......
Madalena Caldas Whitney had it over everyone lol. But I respect your opinion, my mother always said babs had the voice of an angel.
John Palermo I respect your opinion also :) I agree with your mum hahaha
Stop comparing and appreciate each artist for their God given talents that brought much joy to millions of people.
SAY THAT LOUDER AND LOUDER .
When a vocalist like Aretha Franklin says " maybe the best singer" You know Whitney was the best. That's the best compliment
Al with that dumb question...her legacy can never be tarnished she was imperfectly perfect like we all are, and that VOICE will always reign Supreme!
Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston are 2 singers/entertainers that has inspired me. I luv them both. RIP to those beautiful women 🙏😔💖
@@MrRUclips1Y92
I totally agree
@@MrRUclips1Y92 I am a Whitney fan and I can't stand when people compare Aretha and Whitney. Aretha is a class of her own and the pioneer.
@@brokeaf4209 Whitney is also in a class of her own. And she's a pioneer who helped open the door for many black women to have great crossover success in pop music. In addition she was also the first black actress to command equal pay as top white actresses in Hollywood (10 million for Preacher's Wife).

Wow, we’re losing lots of legends! May you both Rest In Peace, Aretha and Whitney.
Both of these women loved and appreciated each other. Whitney even said herself how much she loved and enjoyed their friendship and how much she learned from Aretha. Each had their own distinctive unique talents.I really wish people would stop with the foolishness and appreciate the gifts that Aretha and Whitney were given by God.
Whitney was the greatest singer of all time

There have been many great singers & more will come at some point. Might I suggest you mean to say Whitney was the greatest singer of YOUR TIME...this should broaden your small & limited thinking.

The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin was a mentor of Whitney .
Whitney, will always be the true icon, legend, queen. THE VOICE. ! All pale in comparison.
As much as I adore Aretha. Most of her praises for Whitney came after she died. Earlier on she said she didn’t know Whitney felt as close as she did to her.
Make that make sense. She low key felt intimidated by Whitney. Reason why she went back to the studio to re-record her part 7 times after Whitney did hers only once
I personally is saddened with both extremely beautiful ❤️ people ❤️🙏🙏👍
Now they will join each otha in heaven 💯🙏🏾 #RiParadise🌅 Whitney and Aretha👑

why do people compare legend woman singers but not male singers as much. Aretha was a historical singer, by the time Nippy came on the scene, Ree was 30yrs in there.
I disagree with Aretha about Wendy Williams. Wendy loves to gossip and although she spoke the truth on many occasions, I believe her intentions were coming from a place of gossip more than intervention in terms of how she spoke on Whitney Houston...just my opinion.
everythingisaprocess yup exactly
Yeah it was more her way of trying to take Whitney down and it didn’t work!
Love comes 1st...
Love always...
everythingisaprocess Aretha shaded WH I think WW was bullshit towards WH, Aretha didn't care
Hmmm. That's interesting, seeing that Rolling Stone had Aretha as number one on their list and Tina Turner as 2nd.
GoFuk Yorself you already did! 🦈

Two divas are reunited
When Aretha was young she had it going on, when one gets old one looses everything if you don't know how to take care of it , Aretha was good in her day, Whitney was good in hers, when old age hits ALL have to sit down !!!!
Good point Thank you !!!
I'm 3yrs late,,but that is not true
Look at Donna Summer,,She Lived To 63yrs old,,And Had The Same Amazing Voice
And Also Look At Tina Turner 😍Her Voice Got Better In Her Mid 40s
As Aretha said

There's so much shade in Aretha's comments that it got dark over here in MY house. Notice how she hung on the "Cissy was a very old (pause, pause, pause) friend of mine..."
Anyhow, let's be real about a few points (1-5 below):
brett21852020 omg i caught that too lol "very old... friend"

Aretha always used that phrase for all of her old old friends of hers. Stop reaching
This is a great find

How will I Know He really loves me Masterpiece Whitney I was hurt that you pass away
Aretha and Whitney are my favorites always have been. Aretha is the Greatest vocally though. Those runs and riffs, just the technique she has. #TheQueen #TheVoice
aretha was very cocky and wrong to think she was better than Whitney. No one beats Whitney, everyone is LIGHT YEARS BEHIND whitney especially aretha whose head voice was terrible compared to Whitney's, her mid belts as well and they are even much weaker than mariah's mid belts ( LOL ) and u dare to say aretha was better than Whitney. Ucking delusional
But Whitney was basically a success overnight though. She just got even bigger in the 90s.
It wasn't a shade. Aretha was just saying, the business is a hostile environment and she was right. People took advantage of Whitney
LaChele Nah Regina Belle was the one as she could tone it down and get gritty but she didn't take off the way I felt she could've.
LaChel
Too great voices!
There was nothing overnight about Whitney Houston's success.
Yes it was. She was virtually unknown until her appearance on the Merv Griffin show in 1983, and then in less than two years she was topping the charts and living the jet set life. Her ascent was very fast. Overnight, as it were.
@@cush6827
Whitney began her training in the church at 8 years old, and then began singing professionally at 12, doing jingles, background vocals in both studio and tours. By the time she got on the Merv Griffin show she had put in a whole decade of solid work, and even afterwards it would be an entire 2 years before releasing her own music.
@@cush6827 I agree with you. Whitney may have song as a younger person. But when she was noticed by the public her success was pretty much overnight.
Her success was overnight, and deservedly so. And Aretha was right, people used her naivety and took advantage of her.
