You know - they really deserve this.
They just shut up and got to work.
I love it.
It's mind-blowing that over the 8 years since release, every update has been 100% free, including a VR version of the game, if you own the base game. No microtransactions, no battlepass, no BS. I wish more studios would stay small and know when they have a good thing going instead of inflating to the point where they "have to do those things to make a profit". The team clearly has a passion for what they're doing and it shows.
goes to show what true ambition and innovation vs corporate speech looks like I think had Hello games not had the start they did this lesson could've never been learned and this game would be no where close to what it is today that failure only affirmed their love for this project
I’m proud to have given them my money lol
@@brandonmakridis1565 and they still got enough funds to make another equally if not more ambitious game while at it... Just really shows how total bs this excuse is for the vast majority of cases

The gameplay loop of NMS is Minecraft's gameplay loop. You find a place and build with the resources you have collected. An intrinsic motivator for many in the community is trying to find a world that looks exactly like Earth and having dozens of other players join in to build a civilization as the game is pseudo-online.
Oh wow I’ve never heard of that. THAT makes me want to join and be a part of it
@@thomasbryans6547you can basically put it into creative mode too if you find collecting resources too much of a grind like I did
I disagree. Minecraft's exploration gameplay loop when it's balanced is far more compelling than NMS. Minecraft is filled with situational dangers, you have to stay alert to survive, it's very easy to let a Creeper sneak up on you or walk into a random lava pool. NMS will rarely threaten the player, unless the player actively seeks out a challenge. I've never died just exploring in NMS. Don't reduce Minecraft to some blank slate where people just grind resources so they can build. That's an element of the game for sure, but what elevates Minecraft above the average survival-crafting game is it's dedication to situational challenges that require creativity or game knowledge to solve. Nothing in NMS has come close to something like the unexpected thrill I had when encountering my first enderman. I go into these NMS buildings overtaken by some alien parasite, and I expect some scary creature, only to realize the only thing that's going to happen is some log reading and some credit yoinking.
@@iminumst7827 Minecraft is only dangerous to new players. If you're kitted out and have built a home, none of the monsters pose any threat. NMS is much the same. The only difference is there being no threat of fall damage in NMS and there being weather conditions that damage you. And in either game, if your goal is just to build, the monsters don't pose any threat.
NMS is the lovechild of Minecraft and Harvest Moon, that someone modded combat into. Then that child played Starfield for an hour and shut it off, before sitting down at his keyboard, and saying "hold my bottle."
When others move on to the next project, No Man's Sky comes back to remake everything- *for free* ! It's a game where you buy it once and get everything included- *no DLC, no microtransactions* . I'm truly speechless! We don't see this kind of commitment from developers these days!
No man's sky be cooking while starfield be microwaving

Hey Luke,
I love NMS but it took a while for it to click with me, and it still may not click with you. You kinda have to figure out what you like, and what you want to do and pursue that. I wanted to find cool better weapons and ships, but in order to do that I needed to explore to get resources, I needed to do expeditions and quests in the community hub to get more money. Basically I wanted shiny new things so I could do cool ship combat and fight strong sentries, so I needed to prioritize doing things to get money in order to get the equipment in order to do those things. Later I wanted to build the perfect base so then I started exploring, getting the equipment I needed to travel further and further to find that perfect spot for my home. The game is essentially a "create your own adventure" identify what you want and then figure out what the best loop for you is in order to accomplish your goal.
I think thats something most people don't understand about no mans sky ......its not a game that tells you what to do ....not a game that gives you a loop ...instead it gives you multiple selections and things to do so you create your gameplay loop ....from going to freighters to exploring planets .....from hunting for multitools and ships to just plain fighting .......you find sth you want ...or want to do and pursue that
Yeah it's just like Minecraft. Just a sandbox for you to set your own goals to accomplish. People need to approach the game like that or just realize that it's not for them.
@@karlmurunga8865fucking damn right you nailed it man. I hate how many gamers want to be handfed what to do these days
@@raptorprimal1077 right 🤣.....people have gotten too used to being handfed everything ......gamers dont know how to make their own fun
@karlmurunga8865 thing is i myself even enjoy some I'll admit more linear games. Like doom eternal and destiny. Very linear games where you know what to do. No mans sky is fun in that you are not told what to do. Nothing wrong in not enjoying that loop, problem is lukes failed to understand that just means it's not his type of game instead he thinks that's the games issue.
Manner of fact there's a such thing as a god damn MISSION LOG. So the game actually DOES give him things to do if he wanted that. His opinion of the game imo comes across really close minded. I enjoy his vids but damn ngl this take annoyed me.
What Sean meant by everything you see is generated by the computer is, that nothing you see is on the game disc, like the planets in this trailer are not on the disc, they are all generated on the fly around you by math. That is where once you get into a system there are no loading screens, its always being generated as you fly and walk.
If you're the type of person to visit the eiffel tower just to take a selfie and go back to the hotel then NMS isn't for you
True, why not explore other areas of the Eiffel tower. Or go for the foods, go to other areas that is near Eiffel tower or interact with people. Most of the time it's the people that you meet along the way that makes things enjoyable. As you said, people just go to specific places just to get selfies. A kind of boring adventure in my opinion.
7:55 That's what Expedition mode is for, dude.
It sets a clear goal to achieve each stages and a curated experience through hand-picked planets.
I come back to this game on every expedition with a friend.
So maybe the expeditions shouldn’t be a time-sensitive event? I want to try them but the idea of having to do it at a certain time is a barrier to me.
@@farmpunk_dan It's available for 6 weeks,if you know how to play to game you can finish it in 3-6 hours,it's enough time for you to play.

No mans sky is what you make of it. Its not a story game, its a building and exploring game. I personally like the building. Theres no way it takes 80 hours to get into for anyone, for me it took minutes and you have access to near all gameplay loops within a couple hours
@@upon-fe2720 that's what I came to say. by 80 hours, I had already been to multiple galaxies and built bases and finished the main storyline. but that's the beauty of the game, the amount of things you can do outside of the atlas storyline is almost overwhelming.
@@eycy. lol it's funny, I've spent around 80 hours in the game and I feel like I barely touched the story, I just loved building bases on new planets and upgrading everything I could and running my freighter. The game is so amazing, also I love the trading in the game, buying from 1 galaxy and then going to another to sell the same stuff for way more than you bought it is a really cool concept. There is so much to the game that makes it great, honestly something for everyone. Even the creepy broken down freighters they added. The only reason I don't play it much anymore is because I really just wanna play it in VR again. I need to find a way to get it on my oculus if possible... playing it on the psvr 1 was rough but it looked and felt so amazing... just the way you move was annoying having no analog sticks lol
Ships can now land on water? Is that part of the world’s update? That’s so neat.
Right ....only nms players will understand how big that is
Yup
you will need an upgrade for it, probably somewhere in the anomoly
what luke dosnt relize is that no mans sky has had so many gameplay additions and changes in the years its been out and this update puts more ontop of the massive amount of content we have had in the years its been out Base building, exocraft, 4 stories, derelict freighters and much more

Even in short games 1 hour is still a miniscule amount , he is basically telling us that he does not like playing games and only does it for a living.
you make your own fun in NMS. Some of my greatest moments in gaming have been from NMS. An incredible game
I'm a no man's sky content creator and I recommend you jumping into creative mode first, this gives you everything for free so you can fully explore the game, creative mode will put you deep into the game at 300 hours plus at the start of the game, with no grind involved, and if you enjoy the game, then do the survival element.
Hope you try it out mate.
NMS in VR is looking absolutely amazing with this update running on a 4070 ti / 13600k
It's so mind blowing in VR.... Absolutely incredible experience
Im gonna have to throw on my quest 3 now and try it, I own nms on steam but haven't played on vr yet, or even played the game at all really lol. I played like crazy on xbox and then moved to pc and bought it and have yet to start playing.
I played in creative for 1hr in vr and my mind was blown
It’s one of the best vr games ever made
VR is a truly amazing experience.
How i have fun with NMS is viewing myself as a galactic pirate. I have my warship and a ton of smaller frigates to send on missions. And i made my goal to find earth like planets and build megaliths on them in the hope other players find them one day. I see how it could be hard for some ppl to get into, but I really get “create your own adventure” vibes.
One of my best experiences in VR was launching off that barren planet into space at the beginning of the game. It was amazing and just draw dropping. But just like Luke said, I was overwhelmed with everything the game had to offer and knew it would take up too much time. I'm kind of glad I waited.
Trust me No Man's sky in VR has to be seen to be believed and with this update, it sounds like it just got way better. Also, the integration is seamless, so whenever you get tired of playing in the headset, you can take the headset off and just continue on your regular screen.
Yes NMS in VR is a truly incredible and mind blowing experience...
No man's sky is a sandbox game, you have to make your own fun. The game doesn't "get good" after a certain amount of time. The truth is if you aren't having fun by the 5th hour nothing will change by your 500th.
It's not a sandbox game. You can just follow the story tutorial , then do the main campaign , the endgame campaign and the extra campaigns AND then if you want more you can either do expeditions or make your own fun creating communities. the idea that NMS doesn't get good untill XX hours in nonsense now. heck you can start now do pick an expedition and follow the instructions and have fun
@@Emulcool just because the game has a few campaigns doesn't mean it's not sandbox. Minecraft has the ender dragon and is still sandbox.
@@Emulcool You are wrong, it is a sandbox first and foremost. Nobody plays No man's sky for a compelling story. The story is probably the weakest aspect of the game. The lore is strong however.
@@Emulcool
It has both elements of RPG and Sandbox. Why can't it be both? Like the other person @ you already, I thought it fits the description. RPG due to the role you're playing as an explorer with the campaigns and story, while having a Sandbox world that you can interact with. It's both, isn't it? What makes it that it can't be both?
@@TentaclebuckeT it's a survival game first.
Sure you can put it on easy mode and do whatever.. but let's not forget that you start on a foreign planet with a crashed/damaged ship with no ressources ... I'm not saying that it can't become a sandbox game at endgame once you've done everything. BUt the devs THEMSELVES don't call NMS a sandbox game , it's a game where the main point is to explore until you reached a point that that they give you 254 more galaxies to do it again.
This is the kind of dev team you want working on your game. They took technology they developed for their new game and thought, wow , thats cool, lets patch our old game also to make it better. I dont play it but I respect the dev team
Anyone wanting to know the loop of No Mans Sky..
You get lost. You boot up survival, (or creative to test the waters) and start building your sci-fi adventure. Do whatever you want. Become a miner, a space pirate, a freighter exporter, an animal tamer/farmer, a base builder/interior decorater, a deep space explorer, a tech giant, and SO MUCH more. AND, you can do all of this at the same time. In one save. THATS the gameplay loop
Then add friends, expeditions & their missions/credit grind, and the CONSTANT updates the game gets, idk how anyone can't just get lost in it.
never understood how people can play minecraft and go yeah i understand but when it comes to no man sky some of those people are like hmmmm what do i do? you dont even need multiplayer to enjoy minecraft the one thing ill say is that no man sky doesnt yet have a "ender dragon type thing (thats assuming a game like no man sky needs one)
Crazy this game has zero microtransactions lol sometimes i wish they did so i could pay them extra
An AAA studio, Bethesda, can't pull off something like this lol.

what a stupid comment... NMS which i have loved since launch is an arcade exploration game... NO real Story to follow, that includes the Atlas quest!!! NO RPG mechanics.. No item persistance.. Base building is not item persistance. NO deep item crafting with attatchments, NO deep ship building... NO real dialog choices, the list goes on.
They are two differenent games that cater to different audiences.. I love both games....
Its like saying an open world racer like forza Horizon is the same as Gran Turismo which is a drivng simulator... Yes you can drive a car and race, but these games are completely different in the approach and execution.... i.e arcade racer - racing simulator!!! YOU CANT COMPARE!!!!
How long did it take tho it was broken at lunch and took 8 years for them to fix it
@@robertsilva7158 the game wasnt broken a launch... it was a pure exploration game where you uncovered lore to tell the history of all the races but also the what the atlas was.
to some it was bare bones but to many it was exploring heaven.
Could the game been better.. of course as there is no perfect game. Did the game get hate from an audience that over hyped themselves.... YES. Did shaun help the matter NO.
Common themes..
either people hate on something before its released due to not wanting that game.
People hating on a game due to it not living up to their personal hype.
People hating on a game due to it not being on preferred platform.
People hating on a game as it makes them feel included.
If a game is REALLY BAD then yes.... call it a bad game.. insert Redfall!!
NMS and STARFIELD were not and still are not a Redfall, or Babylons Fall etc..
NMS is amazing in VR. Getting caught in a storm really feels real and dangerous. Generally I play for 100 hours to get the best S tier weapon, ship, and what not, and then find a Paradise planet to make my final home on. Then I close the game and don't go back to it. Every year I start a new game and get another 100 hours out of it. Other than resources and weapons there's no real game play as such, and there's a feeling of loneliness to it as you're the only human running around on a planet trying to survive.
NMS can be fun but you just have to find the fun. It’s kind of like Minecraft - it’s a sandbox survival game but in space and with some unique tech. Explore, build, survive, upgrade, repeat. It’s got interconnected systems to encourage emergent gameplay but it definitely doesn’t guide you to the fun like other games do. There are derelict ships in space that are kind of like raids, creatures and robots to fight, some quests to do, and a very loose mainline story that tries to guide you through some of the systems to learn and features to try. That doesn’t mean people who don’t find it fun are in the wrong and I don’t think Hello Games are wrong for not wanting to guide the experience too much, it just is the game that it is and some people won’t like it. I prefer narrative experiences most of the time so I didn’t fall in love with it but the part of me that has an unhealthy relationship with DayZ, despite the jank, does enjoy it from time to time. It is a lot more fun to play with friends for sure, if you can get the kinda broken coop system to work. The community is really great online though so if you did try it out, people are willing to help and give you things you need… once you get far enough along in the game to go to places where other players are.
Indeed
Would you agree that maybe trying an Expedition is a solid way to see what a person thinks of it? See the actual things that happen in the game without 100 hrs of play?
@@doccomoli potentially, yeah. I haven’t done any of the expeditions. I honestly was a little peeved about the expeditions - I’ve mostly coincidentally played between expeditions and then I’m not able to do the content so I just miss out on parts of the game

@@nathandayfilms If it's any consolation, expeditions ocasionally get a rerun, all of them back to back. So you'll get your chances to (re)play them in the future.
This is what I needed from no mans sky. After a bit you start to see the patterns with explorations
@@Chris-rj4bt Still is though. The "procedurally generated" aspect of the game will always feel exactly like that. It's cool that they're adding stuff to it. But the awkward ass placeholder animals on each planet and how you basically understand an entire planet within 30 seconds of landing on it are the biggest things that break my immersion in this game.
But, to each their own. Games just way too tedious imo. I agree with Luke on that aspect.

I think they do care, but just need a good motivation, and enough devs putting focus on it once they done with the expansion. If they don't care due to how big and successful they are, they wouldn't have turned Fallout 76 around like they did.
That IS a multiplayer game, so you could assume it's just to keep its players and nothing else. But Starfield is singleplayer, so there was no motive to bring players back with vehicles, improved maps, new quests, and other features.
The question is, when the expansion is out of the way, will they put more focus into filling the base game with more interesting encounters, quests, and mechanics/features? Or will it be more paid mods and barely anything else? To be honest, we probably can only hope, aside from modders making those changes and enhancements.

No Mans Sky is a vibe. Plain and simple.
the thing with NMS is the start where you are repairing your ship is the best part because you have such clearly defined goals, after that you kind of need to make your own goals, there is no clearly defined over arching goal, so you have to decide yourself what your goal is or you could help other people, so yeah you could say its good or bad depending on your opinion but it definately lacks a structure. I think their next game will sell well and a lot of that is the trust and goodwill they have built up over the years, people know they will support it for a long time so theres no risk in that regard.
Don't forget that in No Man's Sky, there are free, downloadable save editors online that give the advanced gaming users the powers of playing as God over beginners that are similar to that of computer hackers.

Skyrim DID have the Open Cities mod for more seamless exploration, but I don't think even modders will be able to find a way to work around the limitation on this game. tbh i prefered the old grind for materials by farming credits then going to systems and buying literal stacks of the materials when it was all on the cheap(flood the market so its demand is like -80%) now you are almost incentivised to get the extractors

One of the things I can really appreciate, and almost blows my mind really, is that the few dollars I spent 8 years ago was all I ever needed to spend. I'll be checking out the expedition when it starts :)
Getting into No Man's Sky takes a very special mind set. It's a very hands off, "have fun your own way" kind of game, where the journey is the primary goal, not the destination. If you aren't interested in just "doing stuff," for lack of better terminology, and need an outright goal or objective, NMS just isn't for you. Even with friends, that won't change. It's far more like a SIM game than it is a "game" game.
No Man's Sky is more about inhabiting the world than it is about objectives. That's why all these updates to the tech and worldspaces are so key. It's also why some people just don't get it.
They need to do a full story mode that basically mimics a Bethesda game with their own touch
You wanna get into No Man's Sky? Try playing through the main story. You can also take as much time in between those missions as you like. Your first base computer doesn't have to be on the first planet your found the technology on either! You can take your time and find the planet you want to call your home and plop down your first base computer there. You might also want to do all the side missions for the base computer as it unlocks a lot of expensive things that would take forever to unlock yourself as a new player! Once you're done with the story, you have to decide what is fun for you! Do you want more storage space? You might need a bigger hold on your ship or expand your suit. So you need scanners or maps to find drop pods and crashed ships for upgrades. But then you need nanites to buy new tech so you go and hunt sentinels. But then you need a giant mech to keep you safe and enable you to stand up to an army of enemies. But then you need to upgrade your mech with new stuff as well... Starting to see the point? It's an endless journey! Don't try to reach the end. You just have to drift along. This type of gameplay is not for everyone.
14:06. Can confirm, sort of. Not "only" No Man's Sky, but 2k+ hours on main save alone.
The No Man's Sky community kinda pseudo visits that world to chill out. Expanding in scale of ability as one traverses an immense universe.
ATM in No Man's SkyI am an infamous dread pirate, a smuggler, a producer and distributor of space illicit materials, oxygen producer, and chlorine distributior.
Something i really can recommend is to start playing when an expedition starts, it helped me to understand No mans sky much better than i did before expeditions can be seen as "tutorials" to the game which give special rewards for doing different things.
Expeditions were added several updates ago. FYI
I find the gameplay loop to no man sky kinda like Minecraft you start with nothing and the more you explore and resources you gather the more well equipped you are to get bigger and better stuff. I find it to be a easy stress reliever especially in VR it adds that cherry on top
This game really is just about exploring and finding things, they keep adding new things to do and see.
Every 60 Seconds In Africa, A Minute Passes
in no mans sky what you see on screen is generated by the computer
I got into this game when the NEXT update came out and it's genuinely been one of my best gaming experiences of the last 10 years. If you like this sort of game, it's delightful.
Hats off to Sean and team. The only thing you can ever ask of someone is that they learn from their mistakes.
I always believed that space would be my dream destination, UNTIL I played Starfield and No Man’s Sky. They produced enough realism to drive home the fact that there’s no place like home. Comfort food indeed.
Now, if it was like Star Trek TNG, or even Mass Effect. I want to be an Admiral.
Sucks that expeditions are scheduled and time limited and come around once in a while. And once your done with the scheduled expedition, your done and you wait for the next expedition.
When it comes to No Mans Sky it really is just one of those “You’re either into it or you’re not” kinda games. I feel like it doesn’t have a traditional gameplay loop and is more just about enjoying exploring weird looking planets, building bases, gathering a fleet/squadron, and all the other random stuff it lets you do. In reality there is a lot to do in the game but you don’t have to really do any of it. The game is what you make of it, a true open sandbox to just mess around in and explore. If the premise alone doesn’t interest you and you need more of the checkbox/mission style gameplay loop then you probably won’t get much enjoyment out of the game
the journey is the experience. If you don't like the 1st hour of gameplay, you won't like the game. This is a game for the people who like to be curious what happens next and not wait for the next boss to show up. If you feel you're lost in this vast universe trying discover your purpose until you understand that your purpose is your journey, this is your game. It's a dream come true for everyone who was blown away playing Elite in the 80s. And in VR it's just beyond minblowing.
I was curious and kept on exploring but after a point it looks like I've been to every type of planet. Barely any variation. This update will fix that I guess and the exploration will be much better.
I've played around 200 hours to No Man's sky, like 3 years ago and I really enjoyed it !! I will most likely go back at it in a few months (like after star wars outlaw and Assassin Creed).
For beginners, the game makes sense once you unlock the Space Anomaly. That's were the story pretty much begins, and everything you can unlock and work tword in the game starts with the Space Anomaly. You can as well get missions there and learn more about the game and what you can do in it through those missions.
I just started playing this game again like a few months ago. It's absolutely incredible and a spectacular, it's really a comfort game. compared to what it was at launch it's night and day how different it is.
People jumping into NMS looking for "progression" and fun and I understand. What I learned about playing this game is that there is no line to progress. You just jump in to the universe ,besides the early tutorial of fixing your ship after that you're on your own. Make your own adventure. Craft your own piece of the universe. Theres not a mandatory line to follow. Sure there is the story but it doesnt lock you out of the rest of the content. You can go crazy as early as hour 1. This is my own experience so it might be different to others maybe used to normal games with crafted progression story.
I like the knowledge stone gathering part because I want to be able to fully understand all the cool alien races
i think the problem is he approach the game like a story driven one, this game is literally minecraft in space. you just relax and explore, unlock new ships and build bases, is just a sit, relax and enjoy kinda game
it is amazing with amazing limitations, Sean has small team and with that he accomplished like no one other it seems... but the limitations, the entire universe is single biome planets with only small outposts, the creatures and fauna has some variety but that's pretty much it
Dooope. Gonna start a play through on PSVR2 👀
NMS is a therapeutic game. You play it when you want to chill. Not to have a nail biting experience.
You should try doing the expedition when it comes out, it's a completely separate save, it's like a mini story mode, and if you only want to give it two hours to get good, that's the perfect way
Pulling the skyrim rerelease method of "wow look at the water"
"but what is there to do???" Anything you want
I actually got the game from the library today because of this update. Finally time to give this one a go. Looks beautiful.
Me and my partner play with friends periodically. We just enjoy exploring, building and doing the mission. We play many other games like borderlands, apex, Minecraft, ark etc.
NMS is a survival game. I had the game for over a year without even touching it. When I first played, like you I didn't understand what to do. I had a great time after the first 2 hours once I got my head wrapped around the mechanics.
NMS is a vibe, it's my chill out game... just flying and exploring, the main quest, the space it occupies.. thats all part of the loop.. if ur not into crafting and building its prolly nvr gonna be ur type of game.. which is totally fine.. I just really appreciate the art itself of the game.. its like just a huge lonely, beautiful quest.. and the expeditions are just free bonus content..ps. u shld nvr hv to play a game for 80 hours for it to "get good" that's crazy lol...
It sounds like you should try an Expedition as starting point of this game, it gives you a goal and progress roadmap in the game. It usually takes 10hrs to complete and you can experience most of the game.
I think the best way to put it’s as what No Man’s Sky is universal sandbox to escape and make your own
The look for no mans sky is really just exploration, it’s about finding new worlds, making money so you can buy better ships and gear as the story gradually unlocks and you enter a race to the core with certain NPCs.
The side loops are base building and multiplayer fun
If you want a more condensed version experience, try expeditions
Basically, the games already fun. But you need to enjoy survival type games. This is just about making the experience better for existing people that like it.
They did talk about new enemies and new mechs for combat
Been playing NMS since day 1, 8 years ... been following it for 10. Insane. The game was way over hyped at launch, and people believed it was something it wasn't. I saw through the hype, and LOVED it at launch Even though it was shallow and more a simulator than a game. I go back to the game all the time and it is just my chill out, build a base, explore and take in the sites kind of game. A great break in between rounds of Elden Ring, Tears of the Kingdom, Battlefield 1, Red Dead 2, and countless other games that I've played over the past 8 years since NMS launched.
Nice to see good looking water. Water looked so dull and behind the times before. I'm gonna have to check back in on the game.
I've definitely gotten my 60$ worth with this game. I appreciate all the updates HG has done
What made it click for me, now I have 500 hourse in the game. Was to play on the hardest setting possible. It forces you to slow down, think about what your doing, and thus even just managing to build a half decente base became a small achivement. However if the resource gathering and exploring dosent grab you right away I doubt playing for 30 hourse will either.
Now I love roleplaying on permadeath. Lost 4 characters so far. But I have fun strating over every time.
Edit: PS. In custom difficutly you can skip the torturial and just get in a ship and go, need to be done before starting a new game
this is just part 1 of the new update, god knows what crazyness will be next, Light No Fire their next game is looking even better, if you;re wondering what to do there is so many random events that take u too places and quests that are so fun to do
omg it's finally worth buying 😲
For me the loop is trying to build up to the next cool thing and to ultimately get to a point where I can traverse a planet knowing my resources are all accounted for due to massive farms
I definitely get the beginning of the game can be mundane and not as “flashy” as the trailers. But I think that’s where expeditions come into play. You start with a lot more materials, and it’s an excuse for the devs to take you on a grand tour of all the new things they’ve added. So if you’re struggling to get into it, that’s where I would start.
The BEST way to get into No Mans Sky and have the best early game experience, is to start with an expedition. Each expedition is different and they give you a way to get a bunch of cool gear as you learn the game. So once the expedition is done you are already set up to enjoy the late game stuff you want. And if you don't want to grind too much just play multi player and find someone like me who is willing to share materials. Also, no, No Mans Sky is not the only game I play lol.
Have you tried the expeditions? They are a more curated/guided experience. Missions, milestones, and objectives to bread crumb you along. It might 'click' better for you.
I think the greater game at large is just a hunt for: a) perfect base and required mats, b) perfect ships c) perfect fleet/freighter d) just explore
Doing expeditions is when the game clicked for me lmao
I'm soooooo excited and impatient for the new expedition!! Everyone do a lill dance for the update gods so it starts soon!!!!!
Respect for the devs man Clap clap!!
It's a long burn relaxation game. It's not about 'x # of hours and you get into it' but by a certain amt of time you can endlessly explore bc you're upgraded enough and you have upgraded tools that let you do what you want a lot more easily.
There are some campaign missions (multiple campaign style quest lines) that I would start with in order to have pointed goals to follow while initially upgrading but the type of game is very calm - discover the lore, find views, build a home, grow a ship, see all the different views kinda thing.
Another commentor said "create your own adventure" and the also works it's very pure sandbox so you settle into a comfortable position w drinks and snacks and interact w the world in whatever way you want while enjoying the discovery and views along the way. As you do that, you find what intrigues you and start to follow your own path through. If you ask 10 different players they may be playing the game 10 diff ways, you decide what you do. The commonality is everyone is exploring planets and gathering resources in order to do those 10 diff things.
So the update is out now?
They released the trailer and the update on the same day...
Lets go
