I'll say this as a former college football player at Univ of Louisville and I actually played for 4 yrs... the guys that didn't play & were stars in high school.. to answer Matt's question how do guys dominate in high school but don't do anything in college? Several causes... they think they arrived (gotten comfortable, complacent, don't want to work hard anymore), intimidated by real competition (they didn't go against real competition in high school so now that they go against the best every day in practice such as at UK, you have to beat out that competition just to shine to start on the starting 5..imagine that pressure), burned out mentally (guys have been in sports so long they lost love for the game *rare but it happens*) at this level it is a job it's not just a fun sport its your way of life to feed your family!) the rest .. Matt pointed out.. opportunity and timing stuff like that. But I wanted to point out a few others.

Yo Matt, love the vids. Since you said it Doesn’t make sense for you why this players go from dominating in HS to average in college and the pros, I’ll explain. As a college basketball player myself, the biggest difference in the levels is the athleticism, size and the pace. EJ dominated with size and athletic ability. When everyone is athletic and big the skill matters. Combine that with the fact that many guys get a big ego hit from having to take a lesser role after starring in high-school (since most of the team did) and you get low production. Matter of fact is the skills and mentality is what separates you at the higher levels (unless you are a generational type of athlete like Zion).
Kentucky/Coach Cal is lowkey is overrated at developing talent. No doubt KAT, Booker, Wall and Randle are phenomenal players but I feel like they have a lot more players who are so focused on going straight to the league their talent isn’t developed to help them stick or evolve their game. Skal Labsisere, Archie Godwin, BJ Boston, EJ Montgomery, and Isaiah Briscoe were all players that were supposed to be stars.
How do you expect them to develop talent in 36 games and 1.5 semesters tho ? I would say Kansas is even worse if we talking about players supposed to be stars in the league

Going to Europe doesn't necessarily help players if they want to put up stats. (depending on which league) It's a more team-oriented game with less spacing and more physical defense than the NBA so players tend to average less points.

He should've transferred to a different school where he could really play his game and show off his talents. Clearly he couldn't do that at Kentucky. These kids think that just because these blue blood schools are recruiting them that they have to go to that school to make it to the league. But that's not true. You have to go to the school that's the best fit for you and where you can really succeed. It's hard to show off your talents when you're playing with 2 or 3 other 5 ⭐ recruits. But if you go to a school where you're the only 5 ⭐ recruit, you're gonna play almost the whole game and really show out. Look at Trae Young and Anthony Edwards. They went to lower level schools, showed out and became top draft picks. But if they had went to bigger schools, they might not have played as well.

Sure they are super talented already but for that many of them to be all star or solid role players in the last 13 year since coach cal has been there, means they have to be doing something right. There’s a reason we get the best players is our coach gets them ready for the league. When you have 3+ 5 star recruits every year, you’re going to get one that doesn’t workout sometimes.
Well, it is true, when you dont make it, they will always remember your deficiencies. So, for example, he tries out next year, they will say oh the competition where he was playing was not good enough. Or, if he plays in the g league they will see the lack of certain skills. It is the same way with Brandon McCoy I think his name was who played for UNLV and 7 foot and he dominanted enough to be the player of the year or freshman of the year but had a decent season. He thought he was lock as mock drafts had him tabbed first round to not getting drafted at all. He got picked up as well by the Bucks and did not make the team. He was top Mc Donalds All American as well.
if ur really tall in my opinions rankings don’t mean nothing cause some of these tall people just use all of there height n strength, which u can’t do in college n the nba
As a KY fan that watches every game. EJ just didn’t have the aggression and fight. Pretty slow as well. Always looked like he was jogging. If he would of stayed one more year it would of benefitted him a lot. He scored 20 in 1 game on a no name team and his dad said “what else does he have to prove” 🤣🤣 uhhh maybe that your son can consistently score the ball instead of having 1-3 good games in a entire year
It’s pretty simple how there are a ton of kids that dominate their sport in Jr High and or High School, but seem to or do just fizzle out in college or before they go pro. I actually sort of fall into that category myself. At the age that kids are while in high school, usually 14 to 18 or so, most have or are having their major physical growth spurt. For me I was always in the top 5 to 10 tallest kids in my grade, then they nice I hit middle school in 7th grade I took off for 3 years and by the time I was 15 finishing my Freshman year of high school I was 6’5” and 200 pounds. I hit the gym hard core for football and graduated at 6’6” and 240 pounds but knee problems caused all the offers to dry up. Anyway my point is that at my school and in the league we played in which was the highest classification for Washington state, there weren’t too many kids I came across that I feared because of their size, speed, strength etc. There were tons of kids my age and evens grade or 2 older that just seemed to be behind, slower, smaller, weaker, like they were in a different classification. Once you get out of high school then these kids are gone. Kentucky and their opponents don’t have those kids that made so many high school games so fun and easy. Not very many star padding games in D1. And it gets even harder and nice you are trying to go again to the next level from there. Think about it. Comparing your abilities to those of local high school kids, then strong D1 players, then the top 65ish players that are going into the NBA Draft, every time the level of talent goes up to the next stage, most kids aren’t able to stay with it and compete at those higher levels. In high school its not uncommon to have a kid dominate easily without even having to work hard where as in college and beyond it becomes very difficult and far more rare because there are so few kids that have the willingness to work hard and put in the required effort that it takes to continue to be one of the best of the best in their sports as they continue to get older and the competition continues to get bigger, stronger, faster, better etc. The ones who decide it’s time to work harder and put in that much more effort to continue to improve are typically the players who get to the main goal where are the ones who maintain the same work ethic and attitude that they had since they dominated high school are usually the ones we see in your videos. They think they can continue to dominate without working hard.
These players secretly make tons of money by playing in the European leagues. They may be far away from the NBA, but they are smiling all the way to the bank.
I watched EJ grow up since he was a yr old..I watched him play at KY and all they had him doing was setting picks..the only way he could score was via rebound...that coach Did not use his talents.
Yes you can blame the player for not producing but at some point you gotta look at the coaches to help them transition for HS to college. I mean college is basically these guy's minor league and if they're not getting coached up, it makes it a lot harder.
As a Kentucky fan this dude never worked never gained any muscle his game was the same from his freshmen to sophomore year. He just expected to be a one and done with Kentucky without working for it.
Those guys, the Harrisons, actually made it to the NBA. One was better than the other, the two guard was better than the point guard. One of them played with Charlotte for a while, but both bounced around the NBA and G League for a while.
You do ok on these videos with the exception of the background noise....Sounds like you're doing the video in a Saw Mill that also has a dog pound in it...What the Hell is that background noise?
KY definitely is one of the best programs to develop talent. Yeah you are gonna have players like EJ, BJ Boston, an honestly those are really the only two I can think of that didn't do much after leaving. Thing is basketball an once you mature to actually learn that 90 percent of basketball is being a role player and buying into the team so your team has the best chance at winning. EJ had a role and his role was to defend, rebound and score in the paint. Cal is an expert at finding what you are good at an utilizing it to help you become a team player an win basketball games. I can tell you players like Nick Richards, PJ Washington, Oscar tishebwe, Keion Brooks, are players who stayed more than one year an was terrible in their first years but thrived after their first season. Kentucky has produced more all stars and super stars in the past 20 years or more than any other school. Trey Lyles, KAT, DeMarcus cousins, John Wall, Anthony Davis, Devon booker, bam adebayo, Malik Monk, D'aaron Fox, Kevin Knox, Julius randle, Jamal Murray, rajon rondo, Antoine walker, Jamal mashburn, Terrence Jones, shae gilgeous-Alexander, Jared Vanderbilt, Darius Miller, Eric bledsoe, and I'm sure I'm forgetting about atleast 10 more. Yeah Kentucky not only puts kids into the league more than any other school but they have long term success. Tyler hero look at what he done after being in the league one season, and go an listen to what all the players say about Kentucky and their program. Anybody who says Kentucky's basketball program doesn't help kids flourish and thrive at the next level is just a hater. KY just like Duke gets sooo much hate by rival fans and I understand if my team always got stomped out by a school I'd hate them too, but you also have to give credit where credit is due. KY is the best basketball program in the nation to get kids league ready. And hate it all you want but that is just the cold hard truth. 💯👌
It’s because look he’s been tall his whole life and taller then everyone so going into a college league that have many tall players it’s not gonna work out
He wasnt that good in college I'm a Kentucky fan and I wasnt impressed with him he didnt really do anything on court and as a Kentucky fan it was hard to watch him at times he should have never left Kentucky he should have stayed but anyways Go Big Blue Go Kentucky Wildcats And God bless you
Matt this is a great video, it did make me think of clarke and boston, but I was wondering what happened to this kid. He was highly regarded and unlike Boston and Clarke, and they signed up to for the draft. EJ could have done same thing and probably snatched a first round draft pick, but Duke has the same problem as well. It reminds me when I was in high school, we were number one in the country, so our coach did not have to spend time developing you, he already have great players, but he did create a platform for those who were ready to shine. If you were not, you transferred.
#Matt, STOP! Defending these coaches at Kentucky.. he’s promising these kids straight outta High School one and done.. knowing damn well he’s unable to coach these great young men into becoming NBA stars. They should truly END this notion of one and done.. that’s why most of these other coaches don’t have a true relationship or bond with these players anymore.. because they don’t learn how to grow mentally and make better decisions in the NBA.
Uh no. Cal is known for telling these players straight up they are going to have to earn everything and that KY isn’t for everyone. Literally every player that commits says they like how real he was with them and that it wasn’t going to be easy. They come here because they see he puts 3-5 players in the league on average every year. Not so much lately. It he’s had multiple 5 draft pick teams in 10 years. Also, KY players have the most success in the nba than any other school.
@@dixonspressurewashingllc1005 Zion Williamson didn’t fall his antics.. he ended up narrowing it down to Duke & North Carolina. The last time he was great when Anthony Davis arrived at Kentucky! I don’t see him winning anymore titles; unless he change his method about one and done.. I like the old (UMASS & Memphis) Cal. They might have the most success in NBA for now.. UNC & DUKE will regain those success back
@@shawnlittle73 I agree with the one and dones. Most the time they can’t get it done. Last time I checked coach K got the #1,#2,#3 and #15 players in the class of 2018 and still couldn’t make it to the final 4. Coach K is known as the best coach in basketball but couldn’t even make the final 4 with Zion, RJ, reddish, and Trey jones. They got beat by the same Michigan St team that Ky beat on opening night in 2019 by tyrese Maxey. The 2019-2020 team started 1 freshman, 2 sophomores, 1 junior, and a senior transfer and won the SEC and would of probably made a run if the tournament didn’t get cancelled. That whole team left which is why he had 9 new players this past year and they sucked. UNC players suck in the NBA. Literally can’t even think of one
Just because your actually playing doesn't mean you can just come down and shoot everytime. Theres a gameplan and pecking order. Plus he was physically weak that was his issue as well as being a poor shooter.
Swear to god this guy was good friends with one of my buddies when we younger in middle school about 8th grade and he would hang out with them at there house and we all play basketball together ofc it was mostly just a joke bc he’s been 6’10 since he was like 14-15 he was able to grab the rim and dunk it just standing under it with his arms up ! The other day I was wondering what happen to him and I looked up his name online and shit and found this . Wow I always thought ej was gonna be the next big thing damn !
Unless you are already ungodly talented like Randle, Wall, Davis, etc. everyone else has had their draft stock tank going to Kentucky. Even Booker, Adebayo, Herro had their draft stock fall because of going to Kentucky.
You have said in a couple of your videos that you don't understand how a player can go from averaging so many points in high school and then at the next level they don't... I feel that same way to a degree but what if in high school they are playing bums LOL.. they're the man on their team and they get the ball all the time and they throw up more shots than usual meaning that they score more. When you get to that next level whether it's high School to college or from college to the pros the next level is full of guys that were the man at their schools. So maybe he was either playing against bums or maybe there's some mental blockage as to why he can't produce like he should be or any player doesn't produce like they should
Another top recruit that goes to Kentucky and falls off the map. Either something is wrong with the rankings or going to Kentucky is not good for your career. Cause Calipari is not a good coach.

@Kobe Fanforever well now u gotta tell me who ur cuzzo is. My second cousin is Kevin McHale
13:08 Ask Nick Richards.
if ur really tall in my opinions rankings don’t mean nothing cause some of these tall people just use all of there height n strength, which u can’t do in college n the nba
God loves you ❤️🙏🏾
As a KY fan that watches every game.
Congratulations on 100k I been staying low in life stacking my bread ! And your videos keep me in the crib no cap 💯💯 Keep going til we hit a mil !
These players secretly make tons of money by playing in the European leagues. They may be far away from the NBA, but they are smiling all the way to the bank.
Please do what happened to Diamond Stone
I think you are correct, it’s both the team and the players fault
I watched EJ grow up since he was a yr old..I watched him play at KY and all they had him doing was setting picks..the only way he could score was via rebound...that coach Did not use his talents.
Lol what? Buddy fr was never improving his game 😭
What happened with Noah Farrakhan
Yes you can blame the player for not producing but at some point you gotta look at the coaches to help them transition for HS to college. I mean college is basically these guy's minor league and if they're not getting coached up, it makes it a lot harder.
Starting to think you got something against Kentucky players?
They have more flame outs than anybody besides Syracuse
You should do Adonis Thomas. Was a top high school recruit and went to the University of Memphis. Haven’t heard anything since.
As a Kentucky fan this dude never worked never gained any muscle his game was the same from his freshmen to sophomore year. He just expected to be a one and done with Kentucky without working for it.
It's not Kentucky's fault. It's his for not choosing a school that he can start immediately
should've gone to Duke
speaking of Kentucky do you ever do a video on them Kentucky twins
Those guys, the Harrisons, actually made it to the NBA. One was better than the other, the two guard was better than the point guard. One of them played with Charlotte for a while, but both bounced around the NBA and G League for a while.
@@stonedog23 Andrew was better he lasted in the league longer
You do ok on these videos with the exception of the background noise....Sounds like you're doing the video in a Saw Mill that also has a dog pound in it...What the Hell is that background noise?
Emanuel Quickley failed as as freshmen. He changed his game, stayed in the gym and was POY and a 1st round pick ..
G league bubble is a reason a lot of these players aren’t in the league
Kentucky also once players leave there scholarship still active and can finish there education.Ky has produced more best pro players than any college
Day 2 of asking to do brian antione
Look at molik monk, took him 3 yrs G league to development but now is good player. Some these boys just are lemons, KY seems be getting them
GOD BLESS
We on the road to 5 million 🤣🤣😭😭🤣
I wonder if he just couldnt get the ball in his hands enough?
Make an update on Noah Farrakhan‼️
Taeshon Cherry shoots his free throws from the 3 point line
It’s because look he’s been tall his whole life and taller then everyone so going into a college league that have many tall players it’s not gonna work out
Emmit Williams?
You put a lot of ads in your videos🤦🏽♀️
If your not playing minutes you can’t produce, period.
He was soft.
Wow I actually saw him play once
how was he
@@stephonwilliams5232 he was good, looked like he had potential, just needed more skill
He wasnt that good in college I'm a Kentucky fan and I wasnt impressed with him he didnt really do anything on court and as a Kentucky fan it was hard to watch him at times he should have never left Kentucky he should have stayed but anyways Go Big Blue Go Kentucky Wildcats And God bless you
I swear all these guys go to Kentucky 😂 the last 5 videos Matt made they went to Kentucky
These kids were influenced by bad friends...
@@dixonspressurewashingllc1005
Zion Williamson didn’t fall his antics.. he ended up narrowing it down to Duke & North Carolina.
Do Mac Maclung
players shouldnt go to kentucky
Just because your actually playing doesn't mean you can just come down and shoot everytime. Theres a gameplan and pecking order. Plus he was physically weak that was his issue as well as being a poor shooter.
do ashton hagans
dam maybe Kentucky is cursed

Swear to god this guy was good friends with one of my buddies when we younger in middle school about 8th grade and he would hang out with them at there house and we all play basketball together ofc it was mostly just a joke bc he’s been 6’10 since he was like 14-15 he was able to grab the rim and dunk it just standing under it with his arms up ! The other day I was wondering what happen to him and I looked up his name online and shit and found this . Wow I always thought ej was gonna be the next big thing damn !
There’s a pattern here ..... don’t go to Kentucky
Unless you are already ungodly talented like Randle, Wall, Davis, etc. everyone else has had their draft stock tank going to Kentucky. Even Booker, Adebayo, Herro had their draft stock fall because of going to Kentucky.
I had a class with EJ Montgomery
You have said in a couple of your videos that you don't understand how a player can go from averaging so many points in high school and then at the next level they don't... I feel that same way to a degree but what if in high school they are playing bums LOL.. they're the man on their team and they get the ball all the time and they throw up more shots than usual meaning that they score more. When you get to that next level whether it's high School to college or from college to the pros the next level is full of guys that were the man at their schools. So maybe he was either playing against bums or maybe there's some mental blockage as to why he can't produce like he should be or any player doesn't produce like they should
And kahlil Whitney too
Jalen Suggs ain't playing that bad is he?
Do Dalen terry bro or makur makur
They didn't vanish
DO IASAIH WONG!!!!!!!!!
Bronny James averages less than 5 points right 🤔
Another top recruit that goes to Kentucky and falls off the map. Either something is wrong with the rankings or going to Kentucky is not good for your career. Cause Calipari is not a good coach.
