BFS is a SYSTEM; it REQUIRES Special BFS reels, very light 4-6 lb mono/floro lines, and Ultra-light rated rods, in order to throw the 1/16 oz, and lighter, lures. The $79 cost for the Zephyr is VERY reasonable for a BFS reel with all it's features; and, unlike a lot of BFS reels, it's brakes work very well. When casting super-light lures, weak brakes create excessive overruns; then you get birds-nest that are a pain to clear with the VERY NECESSARY 4-6 lb mono/floro. Thankfully, there are many good BFS rod options that start at about $40.
Used my late summer and all fall, kind of think Shimano and Daiwa are screwing the consumer. This reel is amazing with smooth drag and casts beautifully. When you send in Shimano and Daiwa for repair, hek you could buy a new Zephyr for that price.
I have one that I've been using for about a month now, and it's great. I recently upgraded the bearings to ceramic, and this thing easily outcasts my spinning reel. I prefer a baitcaster, and have been using this mostly for crappie and trout, with great results. Yeah it's made of a lot of plastic, but since I don't plan on using it as a hammer I don't think that's going to be an issue.
I have both the zyphers and curado bfs. The curado is smoother and feels better built but I somehow always go back to the zyphers. The zyphers works. I've had it for 3 years now and still works the same.
Got mine and matched it up with a kast king M/L 6'10" rod, hard to through ultra light; but casting zman micro chatter baits in 1/8 ounce I' e bass up to 5 lbs on it and what a fun fight with 6 lb !eaader. Love it,
Bought it last summer And its hands down the best beginner baitcaster and the best beginner introductory bfs reel . I've caught plenty of bass with casting small lures. Def can't wait to upgrade to the gekkabijin and give the zephyr to my 5 year old and get him started baitcasting . Just upgraded him from a push button to a spinning reel . He knows how to cast, I'll have him throw cheap walmart 1/8 grubs to practice throwing into open patches of cover. He's gonna be a monster of an angler. Hopefully on par with you gentleman. Tight lines and God bless
Awesome video with some great tips on equipment you paired it with. KastKing is a great budget reel company. Anyways stay safe out there and have a great day. Aloha from Kansas
I've been fishing bfs with a abu blackmax with a shallow spool and ceramic bearings for a couple years now. I absolutely love it for when I don't want to throw my fly line around.
I’ve been happy with my 2 KK rovers for bottom fishing the past few years. This is the first product I’ve been considering of theirs since. They’re steadily making better products that’s for sure.
I've been buying KASTKING fishing line for many years now. I really like their line. But have never bought any fishing reels from them. They look nice. Thanks for the review.🙂🎣
Ideally I want to use this to skip 1/2 oz jigs as well as weightless or slightly weighted stick worms using 10-12 lb test fluoro. Will this reel suffice?
I love the channel. I know that your style of fishing requires higher end equipment but for the average angler most don't buy top rated Shimano reels and custom built rods. They use the best equipment they can afford from the big box stores and still are able to get the job done. What I'm trying to say is you may need to adjust your style to fit your equipment. Just give it a real chance, Mark on his channel tried a big box combo but was complaining about it as soon as he took the tag off. Didn't even give it a chance. There's better budget gear than KastKing
You know what they say... once you go budget... you go right back to expensive lol. All jokes aside, the Zephyr is a good budget option. But the question is, can it survive a few of those big red fish you catch?
😂 thanks my friend. We shall see how it holds up to saltwater use. If it holds up, then it’ll be such a bargain that everyone that loves BFS would need to buy one.
You may have some shimano's and diawa's for sale soon . I own 2 zephyr and love them. Only thing better is my 2 black knight2's and my lingl. Love bfs.
@@RXAngler yeah. I also heard of people bending the spool with braid because it doesn’t have stretch to apply equal pressure to the spool when under load. Good luck and tightest of lines.
I have been using this reel since April and it has held up well. Fishing saltwater about once a week. Main negative is that the reel is a bit finicky towards backlashes compared to my more expensive reels.
I bought one of these. Casted 3 times so far and twice the line has gone inside the right side between the spool and reel cover and wrapped around the shaft. Not too impressed.
Old 18 suppressor Sweet rod, Hollow point wise no need to buy as the suppressor is perfect for one application. Then for a special situation with Steelhead fishing in gin clear low water got a phenix mirage built with custom guides. Ran into the Zephyr combo at a local store and the reel was Ok but the Rod did not feel right at all. Flexed the rod and crack guides are loose. Salesman and myself laughed with a WTF was that. Reel is usable, the pairing Kast king rod lol!! pass

Thanks! You too!
I’m a huge fan of this. I’ve caught 3 bass on it. Love the way I can whip the weightless worm

That sounds cool. How did you know what bearings to use?

I bought it and didn't realize how small the spool was. Damn. Still a nice baitcasting reel, though .
Good deal, now let's see it on the water!

I skip senko worms with this reel. Used it for about almost a year. Awesome reel.
Glad it’s working out for you. I’ll see if it’ll handle the saltwater.
What rod you recommend now cuz they don’t have it anymore on the sight
I have this reel and this is awesome. 💪
Awesome!

The real ones know this is the second up load 😅
Great Video
Thanks 😅
They are stocking rainbow trouts. Can you teach us how to catch them?
I thought of you when I saw this reel coming out. Personally I like spinning gear for kayak and finess but nice review.
Awesome reel
Thanks dude
Is the green version same reel
Can we see an on the water review with this reel

Could I pair this with a shimano sensalite rod?
I just want to know how it cast.

Hey awesome vid do you have any idea when those hollow point ultra lights will be back in stock
Give them a call and tell them you saw my video.
When I got my BFS reel the box was nice I thought the reel has been good for about two years.
You should come down to San Antonio and fish with me in the yaks. Calaveras lake to catch them fresh water reds.
send me a dm via instagram

lol
You should use Fluoro or mono on the reel per kast king. Just a heads up. It’s good , but had tons of issues till I stopped using braid.
good to know
